I've never been a fan of them but it basically the main reason is because the less of a life you have, the more meaning you have to the contests since you can vote on the hour more easily

And the voting ends up just being decided by a group of dedicated people and there's things like vote trading which feels inauthentic to what contests should be like

But the drama that happens sometimes is nice

Oh also I finished Root Double visual novel which to me is currently the best modern take on the Infinity series to date.

Hard to say how it compares to E17 and R11 because despite similar storytelling in someways it definitley does its own thing

I recommend.

Thoughts on the top 10

1. This is a good, maybe even great show. But I'm not really a fan of like the middle parts of the show and I feel like the tone of the show often shifted a little too haphazardly sometimes.

2. If I had to pick a show that I thought was more overrated than this one... I could name a few, but this is probably the one I hear talked about the most. I don't think it's a secret that I only think this is a pretty good show and take every opportunity I can to say it's not a 10/10 show. Most people say the atmosphere is like really good. It is. Like in terms of visual timing and mood setting this is a really good show. But I can't connect to any of the characters because the show doesn't really give me the time or groundwork to do so. And the bad guy characters are just kind of... well they just seem really evil? I don't know. What's worse is that the show tries to make you feel bad at the end and it's like, even worse, people fell for the bait. Like Mars of fucking destruction did the same thing.

3. This is an excellent show but it does have a flaw. Everything up to the split from the original anime is like super fast. Like up to the split I actually think the original show is better. On that matter I think the original had a lot of good ideas, some of them which I think are better than Brotherhood but are just executed not as well at the end. Brotherhood is just consistently extremely good throughout the entire show and has a climax that can match.

4. I also don't think it's a secret that I really disliked Love Live. A lot of it was that stupid drama they put in at the end. I nico nico need this show to go away.

5. I can't tell if this is only like Bake or like the entire series. Since the tone of a lot of them are pretty different this is hard to judge. I think Bakemonogatari is a great show that has some of the best arcs in the series.

6. MHA is like on the cusp of being a GOAT level show. But it's just a little too straight forward. I know I say execution is better than being creative, but they really need some sort of shake up somewhere to move this from a great series to an amazing one.

7. I really like this series. Renge is cute. I think the like balance between the comedy and relaxing nature of the show is pretty much spot on.

8. I saw this show. I liked it a lot. But the only thing I remember now is the OP.

9. This is a GOAT level show. In terms of building up to a singular moment in a show I don't think it's done better than this.

10. I mean they finished FMP, we got more FLCL, and Code Geass S3 is coming... so anything is possible. This is my favorite show on the list.

Its a hard series to sell someone on. I think its a hard series to really describe in general even outside of its mostly two characters having long dialogue exchanges. I just dont really get the series, but I dont think its limited to it. I think I just dont get Nisios style in general since Medaka Box didnt click with me either

Are you sure we watched the same show? Like, who are you even talking about from the show? (From the New World spoilers) The only one I can even think of presenting this sort of argument for is Squealer. But like, I think the show unambiguously demonstrates that he has noble/just reasons for doing the things he does. He's not just killing people because he enjoys it or because he's power-hungry or whatever. And I mean even if you want to claim that his reasons don't justify his actions and that he's still evil, I think painting him as an unnuanced villain that's just really evil for the sake of it is being incredibly disingenuous.

KokoroAkechi got it with FtNW. The show tries to portray them as tortured underdogs who were the good guys all along, but it really didn't work. One of the best scenes is when everyone laughs at him when he says he's human, and then sentences him to a fate worse than death with no possible repercussions. Usually I dislike those kind of punishments because it could lead to the bad guys escaping and coming back for revenge, so the solution the humans had there was pretty great.

I'd agree that it had drama but I thought it was significantly improved from the drama in S1.

That said, Love Live Sunshine is top tier idol anime because what little drama it has is the actual good kind of drama. EDIT: Okay there's actually one dumb part but at least it's over quick.

Paranoia Agent is the show on here that I always thought was overrated that I've actually seen all of.

Maybe because I was watching Boogiepop and Lain at the same time and just liked those a whole lot more.

Haruhi is good stuff. I dunno if I can say exactly what makes it so highly rated though. Its like one of the first good things KyoAni made isnt it? It had unique stuff to offer though with the out of order episode viewing and the super catchy dance people love. Its one of the first ever anime dances I remember people copying a lot.

God Knows is also very popular.

At least the youtube numbers for it are among the best for anime songs.

Even if we count 3.0 as modern relevancy, it's old enough now that people not knowing Eva even from that marketing push is understandable.

Its completely unavailable for purchase or streaming. Gainax has done everything it can to kill Eva in the west.
