This does remind me though, right before I started posting in here I wanted to watch Sankarea and I considered asking here to see if anyone had seen it and if they could tell me how gory it got. It was my first 'ecchi' anime though and I wasn't sure anyone here cared about that stuff so in the end I didn't ask. If only the topic had made the answer to that question this obvious!

Huh apparently Aniplex owns the rights to FMA:Brotherhood now because theyre releasing the Blu-rays in a 2 part set. That set will probably be 3-4x the price of buying all the Funimation Blu-rays of the series.

Sankarea is the okay zombie girl anime. Biggest problem was that it had a lame non-ending.

I dont think the Sankarea manga had a good ending either from what I remember hearing. Glad I never picked it up after the anime because it sounded like basically everybody hated it whoops

At least the zombie cat was pretty fun. I don't regret watching it.

Eh, you learn to suspend disbelief I'd assume (plus some people like stuff with toys). There was another person in there at one point too, oddly enough, not sure if it was a man or a woman though. Kinda funny that she didn't use the other person in the video more and just used "tricks" to make herself appear on screen as multiple people at once instead...

So I finished Switched aka the live action adaptation of Sora wo Kakeru Yodaka (though Ive also seen the title start with Uchuu instead so Im not quite sure which is correct). Anyways it was fairly good aside from the end which was honestly terrible.

I like how Kaminari's shining moment, hyped up in the manga and eagerly anticipated by manga people, gets upstaged by Koda, Aoyama and Hagakure. I honestly forgot in the manga how Koda and Hagakure actually get to do something here, I knew that final rush happens but not quite like that. Also of course I remembered Aoyama being a boss

I consider unnecessary anine to be a worse sin than garbage. Kind of like you'd rather have a hilariously bad game or character than one who is a bland boring nothing. At least for me, there's fun to be had in horrible, there's no fun to be had in mediocrity.

In a shocking twist, I've been watching anime over the last couple days. Specifically the original Utawarerumono anime. This was sort of a safe bet given that I had just played and loved the two more recent games in the Utawarerumono series, but this has been really good so far. (Just watched episode 11)

As with the later games, this has an extremely good cast of characters. Of course they're good from a serious storytelling perspective, but I'm also saying I that's it's just really fun to watch them do whatever random shit during the slice-of-life scenes, which is really important for building emotional connections to the characters (which then makes the serious scenes better). In particular the main trio of Hakuoro/Eruruu/Aruruu has been pretty great, though I basically like all of the main characters besides maybe Oboro.

One thing in particular that's struck me about this--a lot of adaptations of VN's (which can rely a lot on internal monologue) feel like they lose something in the transition to anime, but this has seemed somewhat immune to that so far. The shows done a really great job of showing what the characters are feeling just through small stuff like body language or slight gasps or whatever, which I think has been really helpful. There's been a good number of examples of this, but the most recent was when Eruruu and Aruruu learn about what happened to their village. Of course there's some not so subtle parts with Aruruu, but you can see what I'm talking about with Eruruu and how hard the news appears to have hit her. (Really this was just an all around fantastic scene and I hope the anime can deliver more like it)

Anyway yeah. Pretty great show so far. Between this and the Mask of Truth/Deception games I think this has easily landed a spot among my all time favorite franchises.
