Now I get why reviews tip toe the line of 8/10 ratings. You want to be able to hold some kind of critical merit by not giving perfect scores. You don't want to post negative things that can be construed as hating.

And you want to align with your political and financial benefactors who force feed your opinion. Baaaaaa.

Yeah, the article says because of conspiracy theories. Hence my question.

If you want to argue that youtube banned them because of conspiracy theories, why are movies like "Loose Change" still under the paid movie content of Youtube?

I hate conspiracy theorists as much as anyone, but are they really that worthy of ire that they need to be deplatformed?

i'm not arguing anything, i'm saying the reason the bannings happened are directly addressed in the article. the terms of service of the platforms were violated. obviously you can't clean up everything in an instant though, if you see something that seems to violate the terms you should report it

also the reason was hate speech, not conspiracy theories

Every viewpoint is equally valid. They're not equally factual, but a view is subjective and only needs to be valid to the believer. Treating viewpoints as invalid because they're not built on solid foundations is moronic as you can easily defeat these views with sound arguement.

The moment you dismiss conspiracy theorists offhandedly, you give them circumstantial evidence to reinforce their mistake, treating them as equals gives them the perfect opportunity to see how ignorant they are.

I don't think it was the conspiracy theorists so much as the attacking Muslims and transgendered that did it. Possibly accusing the Sandy Hook kids of being crisis actors too, but stuff like that usually doesn't fall under "hate speech" so much as "being a gigantic piece of shit formed into a rough approximation of a human being".

Not a slippery slope at all.

Apple, Google, and Facebook are private companies. They are fully within their rights to delete any content from their services for any reason or for no reason at all.

Alex Jones has first amendment rights to free speech, but all that means is that he's allowed to say what he wants (with a few exceptions spelled out by law) without the government punishing him for it; access to broadcasting platforms, like Facebook, Youtube, and iTunes, is in no way guaranteed.

Nah. Hate speech is pretty clearly laid out in the ToS.

Jones wasn't banned for being unpopular, he was banned for hate speech. Which he should have been.

Still not a slippery slope. If you want it put in another way, if GameFAQs were to ban someone for using racial slurs it doesn't mean that they're suddenly going to start banning people for legitimate discussion.

I listened to clips of Alex Jones, and it was hilarious. It's like Rush on crack(assuming Rush isn't on crack), however I don't see their point on hate-speech.

He doesn't have favorable views on "transgender" people, or the Muslim religion, but I never would've called it hate-speech. It didn't land anywhere near the reasons these platforms gave, and it definitely seems like these companies went out of their way to delete InfoWars. They're allowed to do what they please on these platforms, but if this erratic banning continues: there will be substantial backlash.

He was recently getting pushback from Spotify users so it's not surprising other platforms starting looking into his accounts to see if they'd possibly be next in the line of fire. They likely found things that broke the ToS so they all decided to ban him so they could avoid the media shitstorm like what happened with Spotify.

It's likely he had been breaking the ToS for a long time but it wasn't worth the hassle to remove him from the platform in the past. Now with Spotify biting the bullet first, other services have a much easier time doing the same thing they did but without as much blowback.

The media pushback any company would have gotten wouldn't be enough to take down any of these services anyway. Facebook, YouTube, iTunes and Spotify will be just fine and Alex Jones and InfoWars will find a platform that suits them easily if they want to.
