scumbag of a human for sure.

it's a weird article since it refers to the rose-colored glasses, but literally the only thing in this article is how much of a controlling shit the guy is. so it actually makes it harder to sympathize with the writer.

This is just a matter of me not believing that "taking advantage of a mental weaked person" is the fault of the "strong person" and is not considered a abuse

Because it isn't entirely his fault
She could have stopped dating him at any point. She could not accept his rules from the very beginning
Everything was her decision
There was no threat to her life, he didn't hurt her or rape her or anything. She was just in love with someone succesful, and she didn't want to lose him, fully willing to give him everything just to fulfil her dream

tl;dr: Do not stay in abusive relationships hoping for the impossible.

But yes, while he's obviously a bad person, it's not the guy's fault. One makes one's own decisions, and she stayed with him for as long out of her free will.

it's super common. It's easy to look at it and everything she says and say "well just leave him then? he was clearly a controlling asshole so just don't put up with it?" but the cycle of abuse is very effective at controlling a person, especially when they have very little self worth.

the weird thing is, i can understand victim-blaming here and i'm almost inclined to do it in this scenario (the writer jokes about her daddy issues, but she obviously needed to policeh er own decisions better)

but to absolve an abuser of blame because essentially, they can get away with it, is so fucking warped

seems like men who went through their 20ies and 30ies that were unable to keep a woman because of their controlling bullshit so now that they are in their 40ies and no woman near their age will put up with it at all, they target young insecure women in their 20ies, just beginning their adult lives, who will implicitly trust them due to the difference in life experience. and then abuse that trust.

Id say it depends on if he was actively taking advantage of it. He could just be a crappy insecure guy who had some person give him too much power over her. I mean, he is totally abusive. But a little sympathy for the devil here, he might just have his own set of relationship issues that need help and not just people hunting for justice.

Taking advantage of someone, emotionally manipulating them to get what you want, regardless of "legality," sure as hell is an immoral, scummy, just plain bad thing for someone to do. Do you disagree with even that nanis? Do you truly think that the powerful have a right to take what they want from the weak, at the expense of the weak, with no repercussions because they're powerful?

I will say that yes, she absolutely should have left when she saw the red flags. She admits as much, admits that she made a mistake. It's easier for her to see in hindsight. That, therefore, means we should absolve the man here of ALL wrongdoing, rather than call him out on scummy behavior? Just because she made a mistake, means the burden of the man's more numerous and more ****ty mistakes are shifted onto her?

In this case, the only one stopping the girl was herself! People have free will. Believing someone else must take responsibility for your own fuckups is immature. But this is a general fault of many people and I am not surprised to see lots of that mentality in this topic, too.

You just refuse to accept how much of a person's strength (or weakness) comes from nowhere else but within.

I just hate those double standards
People can't go around saying "he is an adult being, he is responsible for his actions" all the time, and on the other hand claiming someone else taking advantage of someone is wrong
And yes you do see it all the time
Someone spending thousands of dollars on microtranscations? he is a adult being, it's his fault
Someone spending ALL HIS MONEY on the casino? adult being, his fault
Someone driving under influence? adult being, his fault

I have no idea how to express it, but trust me, and I swear it - I do not like victim blaming
I do not enjoy it, and I don't do it just because the victim came out
I just honestly want to say this - I do not understand "emotional abuse"
Again, we are talking about 20 years old I believe? isn't she responsible for her actions, for her emotions, isn't she in clear mind to see what is right and what is wrong?

I wouldn't defend that Chris dude if violence or threats were involved, but "emotional abuse" is something I can't take seriously because emotions are the "victim's" "fault"
