From what I could tell with a quick search there are only 4 volumes of the manga so its probably pretty likely it either already has some filler or will eventually have a lot of filler

Man, the tagline alone had me going 'what'. Eren and Akira are almost nothing alike. At a glance, the rest of the article didn't do much to justify that comparison either.

I've been watching Shiki and I just finished episode 20 (I'm going to pause here until I can... acquire the two missing episodes because I don't have premium on Funimation). Still, I want to post some thoughts while they're fresh in my mind.

I'm firmly on Team Shiki so things aren't looking good, but that was how I expected it to go so oh well. That scene where the doctor was cutting up his wife was brutal, I wanted to look away but I couldn't because I needed to keep reading the subtitles. I can't believe how little emotion any of these people are showing while killing their former friends and family. Humans are the real monsters! The shiki did nothing wrong!

Okay, seriously though, this is an interesting conflict. Sunako has made some excellent arguments about how they need to kill in order to survive, and I actually agree with her. No creature should be forced to die just because their existence harms others, so the shiki have every right to do what they've been doing imho. However, the humans also have every right to fight back to preserve their own existence now that they know what's going on. I'm finding this whole conflict fascinating. Still, the shiki characters are way more interesting than the humans so go Team Shiki! You can still turn it around!

The only character I absolutely despise is Natsuno (he was mean to best girl Megumi and just generally a stuck-up jerk who was impossible to like) so I appreciated how, even after he became a shiki, they gave him the ugliest coat imaginable just to make it absolutely clear that he still wasn't one of the good guys.

Saiki K being the gag series that keeps doing well warms my heart.

After losing AssClass/Naruto/KnK and even declined Bleach/Toriko, I still didn't expect WSJ to bounce back with such strong series so quickly. It felt like they had a few successors in mind that didn't work out as those series were ongoing, but once they ended other stuff actually did step up.

Also I officially give We Never Learn my WSJ seal of approval. Can't wait for Shaft to be like, yeah sure let's give this the Nisekoi anime treatment.

Predix on how long HxH is back. I am gonna bank on 7 chapters before another 1-2 year hiatus. Togashi is literally gonna die of old age before he finishes the series at the rate he puts out chapters

On the subject of manga does anybody know if Mashima has a new series yet? I think Fairy Tail has been done for half a year now, but Ive been out of touch with anime/manga so I have no idea if he already has a new series going or not

Well Im looking forward to it! Fairy Tail was pretty great even though there are definitely things I would have changed about it. If nothing else at least Mashima doesnt drag things on forever or seem to get super distracted with multiple stuff going on in his series. As much as I liked Bleach it was a pretty huge offender at taking forever with some things. I remember he would start some fights and then not go back to them for a while or start some fights and then completely skip them >__>

I think he had some of the least appealing character art imaginable.

I feel like a lot of shounen series are guilty of that too though. Either that or they go overboard with making the boss so OP they have to be beaten by dumb asspulls nobody enjoys. I feel like there are very few Jump villains done well

There's lots of bad shounens out there, but they make up for it in other ways. Fairy Tail is one of the bigger offenders at spewing out shonen cliches without really much merit besides being a very clean product.

I think it has a pretty great cast! The plot writing could definitely be better, but I just view it as the ultimate positive/happy shounen series. That can kill suspense and hype, but Im pretty satisfied with the series as a whole.

I can see your logic, but those positives for Fairy Tail you mention just seem superficial, whereas Naruto actually tried to go deeper, and I think, succeeded several times.

Do I like Naruto's cast? Not really, but the plot it tells is definitely more interesting. The world it builds is more interesting. The Akatsuki members felt overall like threatening villains with satisfying battles (mileage varys but still). Once the final war arc started is when I think Naruto really jumped the shark and never really recovered, but it was pretty decent and sometimes great until then.

Fairy Tail, is a very fluffy story through and through and doesn't really try. It's a well made but ultimately cheap snack, and I'd call other "bad" shonens like Naruto and Bleach something that a chef tried to make amazing, but he wasn't really good at it so parts of it are great and parts are bad but it's definitely more interesting. Kind of a ramble, eh.

The key difference between them is Fairy Tail doesnt have a real goal. Theres nothing really to work towards so every arc can be its own adventure. Its almost more like an sol shounen in terms of story in a way. Naruto started off good, but the time skip just seriously destroyed basically every positive the series had going for it. Like the writer even literally destroyed all the themes the beginning had including the very being of his main character. How do you fuck up THAT badly?

Id say the Akatsuki were almost entirely fodder/forgettable too. I cant really remember most of them aside from exploding clay guy, puppet guy,
Kisame and Itachi. Itachi is the biggest offender because they hyped him for years only to do almost nothing with him and then try to spin some lame hero story for him.

Ill grant you that Naruto tried a lot harder with its story, but it also completely caved in on itself. Id have preferred it not being so ambitious if that was how it was going to turn out. No villain was done any justice in the long run, all 3 main characters were terrible and it completely went against the main theme it spent years on of a hardworking loser gaining success, friends, etc. Seriously in hindsight basically every major and even minor villain it had turned out incredibly disappointing with no real payoff to their hype
