so much so that they gotta make "no backseat gaming" apart of the chat rules....

but let me ask you what's fun about watching someone struggle to do something so obvious when you know the answer but giving it will get you banned from chat?

the stream becomes less enjoyable if they have run into a wall and cannot figure it out on their own despite numerous attempts all failing miserably

yes they can be annoying but if you yourself have spent numerous hours trying to solve one problem that no matter how many attempts it takes you cannot beat it

why make everyone else suffer by watching you flop and fail so you can preserve your ego?

It's their stream and they're well within their rights to play however they want. If you don't like it, go watch someone else.

Tell them how to do it and let yourself be banned, for the greater good. Honestly, doesn't sound like a fun stream, anyway, but might as well let everyone else enjoy it.

It can be fun to see how other people handle games you've already played through (especially for speedruns). Some let's players have really enjoyable or insightful commentary.

Do you understand now?

It's actually rather rude to give unsolicited advice. If someone asks for help, then by all means, provide them with it, but otherwise, keep your gob shut.

For me, it's because figuring out what to do is one of the most important aspects of games. Pressing the buttons isn't the goal, it's figuring out what buttons to press. If someone just tells you what to do, you're not really playing the game any more. At least not in its full capacity.

Yep.

No one wants to watch somebody just go through the motions of playing a game. You're there watching the streamer to see how they react.

Watching people struggle and overcoming it on their own is amusing. Watching someone breeze through a game because they're good at it, isn't always better. Blind dark souls runs are always a treat.

This is one of my favorite clips. Context: at the epilogue of the game, the game itself reviews the player on how well he played.

This could be said about the person who "has" to back seat game.

Don't like watching someone play a game without backseat gaming? Then go find a streamer who allows it/enjoys it.

I hate, hate, HATE backseat gamers! Like seriously it is one of my hugest pet peeves. If I ask for advice then fine, please give it to me, but if you ruin a puzzle for me I will be PISSED. I once threw my mom out of my room and spent my allowance on a new lock for my bedroom door because she solved part of a jigsaw puzzle that was sitting on my desk. That was back 20 years ago and I would still do it to this day.

Then again, I don't steam for this very reason. And if I did I would only stream games that I have played before.

Backseat gaming can be annoying even as someone watching, especially when it's presented like "OMG you don't even know about ____ in this game?" It's fun to watch an interesting person play a game, not fun to watch them be berated or watch someone give them orders

Being a teenager is one thing--overreacting is what they do, I was a teen myself before--but if you think this is a reasonable reaction as an adult, you really need to reevaluate things.

Pretty much. Even though they're doing so for the entertainment of others, streamers still want to be able to enjoy their own games, and part of that enjoyment is the struggle of figuring things out for themselves. If you're going to ruin that for them by telling them how to play because you don't want to watch them struggle, you probably shouldn't be watching people play games that you already know how to play.

Also that. Watching people suck at a game can sometimes be entertaining, but if that's not what you're looking for (as is obviously the case if you're trying to direct them), just don't watch them.

I've seen people who don't change that stance even when playing Multiplayer team games

how is that acceptable?

Because they want to play the game the way they want to play the game, not the way that helps some obnoxious busybody with an inflated sense of self-importance pretend they're being useful. Again, if a streamer isn't playing a game the way you want them to play the game, and that bugs you, you shouldn't watch that stream.
