Well, I'm starting to close in on 305 power, so once I actually hit that I might be less inclined to play until the first expansion. Though pretty much all my friends are playing Destiny right now instead of Overwatch, so until they switch back over there's less incentive.

Having played 6 hours of Shadow of War, not only have I not opened a loot box, but I literally dont see the point of doing so for the time being.

Shit the game literally generates and throws at you constantly. Ive probably picked up hundreds of items by now?

Like in just one of my regions I have intel on 3 Legendary Orc Captains (the absolute best thing you can get from a box).

Thats also ignoring the fact that Orcs can level up in rarity. I got killed by a Captain last night and he literally Became Epic for it.

Not to mention <10% of people finish 40 hour games these days, so who the fuck cares?

I wasn't necessarily commenting on Shadow of War's use of lootboxes, just their prevalence in games this year in general. I think they're shitty and cheap way to attempt to get people to either A) spend more money on your game, B) spend more time with your game, or C) both.

I don't think this absolves bad game design at all. Bad design choices are bad if 100% of people see the content or 0% see it (not necessarily talking about SoW here either).

Also the people here are the 10% that do finish 40 hour games, so obviously we would care.

The new "clicker game with other systems built in as you progress" is here, Universal Paperclips. Gameplay-wise it doesn't do anything compeltely radical like Candy Box or A Dark Room but it still has some nice surprising moments. And fortunately it's beatable in just a day or two

edit: or not, I guess? The system wasn't recognizing it but after attempting multiple times the resync button finally woke it up. Super weird, not sure why it would have essentially turned itself off in the first place.

so far i've only made one nemesis, an orc named Dush Who Watches, who can create clones of himself to fuck you up

i just killed him though

so far the only orc to be killed by me only to return inexplicably is named Amug The Rhymer and both times I saw him he spit a fire rhyme at me before I killed him

Xenoblade update: Shulk is really pissing me off. There's too many times when he has a vision of the future and is like, "Should I tell people what horrible things are going to happen to them so they can avoid it? NAH!"

Like, I hate when seers in fiction do this. It's like every single TV show or whatever that has a character that can see into the future always have them just avoid telling people about it, or only have them only warn them in the vaguest possible way. Everyone's always like, "What happened? Is something wrong?" and Shulk's like, "No... it's nothing. Forget about it." Fuck you, Shulk. If I could see into the future I'd be giving my friends detailed spreadsheets about what's going to happen to them, how to avoid it, and all the possible contingencies I could think of about all the outcomes changing the future could cause. Yeesh.

On a positive note, I finally figured out how the Gem forging system worked so I spent an hour crafting leveled up Gems to help turn Reyn into an dodge monster. So now I don't take damage in battles anymore.

I get where you are coming from, but usually it is justified as avoiding unpredictable repercussions for changing the future. In other words, when it happens I can change it if nothing else changes, but if I tell them now the events may occur differently in ways I won't know how to counteract. In Shulk's case, he has no excuse given his visions update when he makes a change.

In new Nemesis news, Ive been killed like 4 times by Brak Black-Blade. Killed in quotes because he doesnt finish me, instead choosing to walk off screen while taunting.

Im playing on Nemesis Difficulty, and its hard as fuck. Some Legendary Orcs can kill me in one shot.

only a couple of hours into shadow of war so i haven't seen much of the improved nemesis system.

my only takeaway so far is that the human characters look rough and there's noticeable jank with all the clipping going on. not a big deal, but i guess there's just the expectation for AAA games to have more polish in the presentation, especially for a sequel that came out three years after the first one.

but yeah as long as the nemesis system along with the fort sieges turn out to be fun, i'll be happy!

Finished World 3 in Mario + Rabbids last night. I saw a lot of people talking about a big difficulty spike in World 3, but I never really saw it. The skill tree in the game is pretty unbalanced. Dash damage and mobility are king, so prioritizing those abilities over the secondary activated skills makes the game a lot more manageable because it allows you to clear out multiple enemies a turn. Once I started maxing those out, the game got a lot easier.

Shadow of War is terrific so far. The last game also ruled. The "buy this stuff" is annoying but you don't notice it after the first time you start the game.

I much prefer my strategy of getting to the low priority games first and saving the high priority games for later. Why play great games at release like Nier: Automata or Persona 5 when you can play okay games like Horizon: Zero Dawn or Mass Effect: Andromeda?!
