Prey has a really good start that hooks you into the game. Talking about it in details would ruin it though.

It's not quite the game I was expecting. There's much less stealth emphasis than I assumed, and a lot more combat. It's fun though.

I played through the entirety of the game using my pipe and shotgun maybe 10 times, at most. those levels are dense.

Maybe I'm missing something, but there's barely any cover and enemies seem to spot you very quickly. I'm on Hard though.

I finally got around to Tacoma. I had a good time, but it didn't fully land for me. The story was too clean and uncomplicated for the themes it was invoking. The storytelling device is a lot of fun, but even there I wanted a bit more from it. I enjoyed the individual chunks of time, because they were small, in-media res, and didn't tell a full story, so it kept a sense of mystery. You can wring every detail from a scene, but it will raise at least as many questions as it answers. The problem for me then, was that the next chunk of time was always the next important bit of plot, and it's not particular satisfying to piece it all together, because it's a very straightforward narrative. There's no real thematic connection between the story and the way you experience it either, as cool as it is.

I don't know, I'm criticizing it for what it's not at this point, but scrubbing through the ghosts of capitalism is evocative in a way that makes me want something a bit weirder. Basically, I think I want this but based on Walter Benjamin's Angel of History.

this is a good read on it, and where I landed as well. The most incisive commentary Tacoma has is to suggest a future where vertical brands run all aspects of society and we are indebted to them through coerced customer loyalty, but even that was undeveloped and told mostly through emails. I did like the characters; the two queer couples were interesting and believable. But on the whole I finished Tacoma and thought, "that's it?" Too many characters and subplots only received a single vignettes.

A history of sexual assault/harassment/predatory behaviour by the owner of NeoGAF has come to light (or resurfaced in some instances) over the last few days. Most people learned about it yesterday. All of the admins and the majority of moderators quit to prevent the owner from profiting off them further (and in some cases to protect their privacy), and the boards became a cesspool as a result. The boards are currently down because I think Evilore, the owner, is the only person left with mod privileges and one person alone can't keep up with that volume of traffic.

Nope. CDK is a grey market reseller in that they probably occasionally buy things from different regions to get better prices, but they aren't one of those sites that do any shady things with stolen CC info or anything like that. CDK is pretty well-respected.

very different from mine! I have a masurao/pugilist/harbinger/botanist/.. whatever the stock mage is. I started out with a fencer but moved to harbinger after I was able to class change (level 6).

Oh, I actually think I picked botanist instead of herbalist. Who knew there was a difference!

the game really opens up once you beat the second stratum. it was okay to good before but really opened my eyes after that.

I struggled like hell in the demo though. I was shocked at how badly I was getting beat down. you had to basically kill the enemies before they could move or else you'll be down a guy.

Yeah, Im up to level 3 now with some better gear, so things have gotten a bit more manageable. Still only mapped like half the first floor though.

I hit 10 on 3f and didn't even finish all the quests by the time I got there. you really level fast. I'm currently like 58 and on 18f.

Finished up the first floor mapping quest. My guys are all almost level 6. So far this seems like More Etrian Odyssey. Which is fine, I like EO, but it doesnt do anything new.

Does chaining not work the way it did in 4? I feel like every time I try it with my Fencer it doesnt work. Is the proc rate just really low?

I don't know.. I bailed on Fencer early. I just didn't like him. my pugilist seemed kinda similar but not as boring.

there's tons of linking skills though. I have a masurao which is kinda nuts and links up well with the pugilist. I usually get off like 12 or so attacks per round at the point where I'm at.

as for being more EO.. yeah, I guess so, but I think it does enough interesting stuff with the dungeons and the quests to feel fresh. I guess you're only on 1f so it may diversify enough for your tastes. every first floor in an EO game is the same.

Well see, Ill keep playing until the demo locks me out and then see if Im in the mood for another 40 hours.
