Cuphead should run just fine on whatever as long as it's not absolutely ancient. The minimum graphics card is a 9600GT, which is a mid-range card from 9 years ago. Toasters will be fine.

The game so far is terrific. It is tough but not unfair, and has a decent amount of depth to it with a surprising amount of customisability and options. It also seems pretty lengthy for what it is, so there's a fair bit to it. It's style and substance.

I just don't see the appeal outside of the aesthetic and the aesthetic doesn't do anything at all for me. it's certainly well animated but the gameplay looks very trial and error. that would be fine if the visuals pulled me in like they do for others, and worked with a game like Limbo or Inside where I can get behind its style but Cuphead is just.. yeah, I dunno. it doesn't pull me in. I watched the quick look and yep, deaths abound unless you memorize the screen. I've played games like that before and they usually don't appeal a whole lot. I like games more dynamic, like a Bleed 2 or something.

So Monster Hunters Stories is one of the most fascinating games I've played in a while.

Not because it has a great story or amazing gameplay, but because of what exactly it is. You take the mechanics from a standard Monster Hunter game but once you strip away the tension of the fights and RNG of rare items you're left with a harsh realization of how tedious Monster Hunter games truly are. Basically, the monster fights themselves are the main driving point of everything, and maybe I'm dumb for just realizing that but it's when you're present with Monster Hunter minus the fun monster fights is when you really, really understand it.

The Old Hunters has some incredible boss battles. I think the beast bosses in Bloodborne were generally poor, highlighting the weaknesses in encounter design (tracking 360 boss attacks, grabs with no opportunity for regain, poor camera, one hit KOs particularly in the chalice dungeons), but the ones available to fight in the Old Hunters are such an improvement. An intersection of storytelling and challenging fights. The Human (or Human-like) fights, which were already the pinnacle of the main game, were also great here. Maria compares favourably to all the best non-narrative BB fights.

I love that The Old Hunters includes nearly as many weapons as the main game, but ugh, would it kill From to hand out a few more high end upgrade materials without having to go in the chalice dungeons? There's so many weapons I'd like to try!

i only did the chalice dungeons once to see everything they had to offer and get the platinum

i just made new characters and did multiple ng+ cycles to get upgrade materials for the rest of the dlc weapons. way more enjoyable than trying to slog through the chalice dungeons!

Random Xenoblade thoughts as I continue:

- This game doesn't have quest markers, huh? This is kind of a real problem because I can't find shit. It doesn't help that the locations of things are so picky. At one point I was running around trying to find this guy that only showed up at night, but it turns out he doesn't show up at night, he only shows up a few hours after night begins. That was swell. I don't even think I'll bother with quests in this game since the rewards all seem to be useless anyway.
- I miss having a run button.
- I might not finish this in time for December mostly because I spend a lot time just standing around listening to the music.
- Sharla is damn fine. I regret equipping her with pants.
- I really wish that level 80 Tyrant didn't spawn right on top of me after I fast-forwarded the game clock to Daytime.

I thought the first game was pretty tedious itself, so this news just washes over me. Tedious game adds more busy work, yawn.

In the abstract, I think it's a gross way to "monetize" your most dedicated players. We know from achievement data and company statements that very few people who buy a game go on to finish it. WB look at this situation and think, hey, these are people who have already invested dozens of hours in the game and are more likely to seek out the true ending. If we tweak the drop rates just right, a certain percentage of those people will commit to spending more money rather than spending more time acquiring the necessary orcs to reach the end. I don't like it.

Read the GameSpot review, the free packs cost 1200 Mirian and he ended the game with 70,000 he didnt use <_<

Also, how would getting Legendary Orcs from paid packs compared to Epic Orcs from the free ones help cut down on the grind?

And thats Ignoring the fact that you can get encounter Legendary Orcs in the world, so theyre perfectly attainable.

i enjoyed shadow of mordor, skipping the stuff that didn't interest me.

i'll probably do the same for shadow of war and have an okay time messing with orcs. reviews i've read make it sound like it's gonna be more fun with even more opportunities to have dumb short stories with all sorts of orcs!

I'm playing Watch_Dogs 1 for the first time

All the side stuff is so much more fun than the main stuff. The Digital Trips are incredible, I love the chess puzzles, ctOS Breach environment puzzles are great, NVZN was fun for a bit, and I even cleaned out a poker table on the first try

Driving is kinda bad, Takedown is OP, and at least so far on normal, enemy AI in shootouts is pretty bad.

Must get revenge for my niece! But first I gotta guess which cup this ball is under for awhile

like, the cool thing about the orc encounters in mordor is that your nemeses are often just a faceless orc in the crowd who got lucky or was at the right place at the right time. they become distinguished because of your previous encounters with them, not because they have some rarity value attached to them and are worth some amount of mirian.

I downloaded the Battlefront 2 beta, killed Rey as Boba Fett, and promptly deleted the beta from my PS4. I think I've stopped being awed at the scale of these games. I feel like none of my actions matter. At least with Battlefield you can get into weird vehicle shenanigans.

So I watched the GB QL of the new Mordor game. It looks alright? My major complaint with the first game was how simple it was, particularly if you're someone who took pleasure from all the challenges in Arkham games. This new game looks like there's a million different things that will lead to your death; although, funnily enough, there was a moment when Brad wanted a common orc to kill him and not a single orc out of the dozens close to him would attack. It was like something out of a Warriors game

I'm starting to get sick of loot boxes. I hate stuff being hidden behind random chance. I understand why they're popular and I'm definitely not immune to that kind of stuff (hello FFBE), but having them in seemingly every game now is getting tiresome.

I'm with you. I think it's gross. I'm pretty okay with it in the context of Overwatch because it's entirely cosmetic, or PUBG where you can actually sell the box for real money. They're nice carrots. Anything else though, I range from apathy to contempt

I guess with Overwatch you're able to purchase the items if you've saved up enough currency, so it's less bad there.

With Overwatch specifically I find that I'm able to earn enough currency between events to buy one limited skin during each event in addition to whatever I earn while playing. It's not so bad. I don't play that much, either - just enough each week to get my 3 arcade boxes and one additional level up.
