Im about to throw in the towel.

Never before have I seen such a dearth of interesting titles to play, indie games are all the same rehashed roguelikes, rts and fps... the new trend is these pathetic anime hentai visual novels, and your standard low effort turn based rpgs selling at 10 bucks a pop on Steam.

Steam at this point might as well stand for Steaming pile of shit with their utter lack of quality control and the fact that half the games listed are 3 dollar expansion packs or dlc for some game.

I look through the list of whats being played, maybe something interesting..? No, just old ass games that came out years ago like GTAV which I beat already, the yearly rendition of Football manager and 2K which havent improved in about 6 years..

I go on Gamefaqs to check PC gaming, all F2P mobas, hearthstone, and some old ass games like the Witcher 3 and Skyrim that came out year ago. Hell, Ive been dumping hour after hour into Fallout New Vegas recently, its all Ive been playing, yet its still on the top 10 games for PC. The game came out like fucking 10 years ago.. Hello?

Want to try Fallout 3 but dont feel like dealing with the compatibility issues with Windows 10... console gaming is SLIGHTLY in better shape but just barely...

But holy fuck is PC gaming awful now. I shouldve spent way less on my machine and just tricked out the processor so I can watch smooth videos instead of wasting money on a dead market..

WTH?

I mean steam just had a sale for The Surge, Shines: The lightning kingdom and Tyranny, all good games.

I seriously am struggling with the urge to get Gal Gun which is on sale 75% off because I hear it can be played as a light gun shooter (which I love), but it's seriously creep level pervert game content and I have female friends on steam (heck even male friends might judge me for that).

I'm waiting for Slime rancher to go on sale again. Sadly it's not multiplayer, but a friend of mine has it and loves it (she bought it during the last sale), so I'm waiting for a sale before getting it as well.

Biggest problem I have with Steam is I can't keep up with all the games I want to play that are actually decent. We just spent hours playing The Forest yesterday for instance (until we finally both drowned in an underground lake), so we are going to take a break on that one.

Then we jumped in and played Terraria for a ton of hours (3 of us), until like 2 am lol, so even old games are still taking time away from new ones I just bought.

Meanwhile on my own, when not playing with others, I'm slowly running through The Surge, which is quite decent for a Dark Souls clone like game (just wish there was a bit more customizability in stats etc).

Games are not dead, many gamers have lost their ability to enjoy games due to extreme burnout and way to many games to choose from. Causes gamers to not finish games because a new shiny comes along, and that eventually leads to apathy at even playing games since you don't finish them.

That is totally different then there being no good games though. I hoard games still, because in the distant past (now), we used to go through long periods without anything to play (especially summers). I would pull out my old might and magic games, or eventually diablo 2 etc, and play them for months due to no other choices.

Now? I could freaking game 18 hours a day for 30 years and STILL not finish the games I already own, let alone new games that come out. Games are not dead, they just became tribbles and have multiplied into infinity at this point.

Nah.

Pretty sure its dead.

Theres no effort and the artistic side of gaming died a long time ago...

It was a huge snowball but noticing now how truly dead it is fucking pathetic.

Im bored on a day off and have hundreds to spend and physically cannot find something worth playing... its either too old to work properly or too new to be any good.

What I do want to play is some gamecube stuff funnily enough.

I remember when I was 14 in the hospital being dazzled by how amazing Wind Waker was and fun despite its age at the time..

how is gaming dead. isn't a multi billion dollar industry? originality in any art form eventually dies off or comes pretty damn close.

I mean some of the most famous artists you likely learned about in school where not exactly original themselves

Recent games on Steam I recommend:

Rimworld: http://store.steampowered.com/app/294100/RimWorld/
20XX: http://store.steampowered.com/app/322110/20XX/
Dead Cells: http://store.steampowered.com/app/588650/Dead_Cells/

2 of them are roguelite platformers so that's more of my thing.

The Surge looks like they put Arnold Schwarzaneggar as The Terminator into a sci-fi rip off of Dark Souls even down to the UI. Besides the game is rated like 7/10 across the board and I dont even like those types of games.

Shines? Looks ok. Looks like Dark Cloud 2 or something. Graphics are outdated, its not generic at least, looks similar to Ninja Storm combat with RPG elements. But I generally dont play weeb crap.

Tyranny is average and generic. Reminds me almost of Silver for the Dreamcast. Not worth the time.

I seriously am struggling with the urge to get Gal Gun which is on sale 75% off because I hear it can be played as a light gun shooter (which I love), but it's seriously creep level pervert game content and I have female friends on steam (heck even male friends might judge me for that).

Yeah.... you go do that.

There is no reason to play this. Its a standard braindead grinder with no thought behind it. Collect lots of A, put it in place B, sell it to make insert currency here, use currency to purchase stuff to make your collection and farming of A more efficient. Rinse repeat until theres nothing to do anymore. Hard pass.

Games are not dead, many gamers have lost their ability to enjoy games due to extreme burnout and way to many games to choose from. Causes gamers to not finish games because a new shiny comes along, and that eventually leads to apathy at even playing games since you don't finish them.

Which new shiny one? Lmfao. Perhaps these games arent holding peoples attention because they are generic and boring as fuck. When games come out that are actually worth buying and playing (New Vegas, GTA5, South Park Stick of Truth) I usually beat them and play around with them unimpeded for a while and then theres nothing else.

That is totally different then there being no good games though. I hoard games still, because in the distant past (now), we used to go through long periods without anything to play (especially summers). I would pull out my old might and magic games, or eventually diablo 2 etc, and play them for months due to no other choices.

For roleplaying, along with Pathfinder. Magic is still big too. BUT it's expanded so far beyond that. Just everyday board and card games are coming out that are a lot more fun than the tired shit you find in video games. You also get to play them with real live people.

Eh, it's definitely gotten worse since Greenlight. 60% of Steam's library was added in 2016, largely because Greenlight had stopped enacting any sort of effective quality control whatsoever. With the demise of Greenlight, hopefully the new Steam Direct will alleviate that a bit, but I definitely wouldn't say Steam's quality control problems have always been as bad as they've been in recent years.

I hear ya. Gaming has gotten a lot different in recent years IMO.
I used to play a shit ton of games when I was younger. Now I seem to struggle to even boot up a game.

I'm also getting really tired of Day one DLC and Microtransactions and shit.
It seems like all multiplayer games has this shitty RNG lootbox system nowadays which infuriates me.
Why can't we fucking unlock shit by playing the game like normal, instead of buying lootboxes with money/in-game credits?

Top 10 right now

1: Some hentai visual novel garbage for neckbeards. Ive touched a woman so would never buy this.

2: Uninteresting indie puzzle game

3: Generic Indie metrovania game.... muh retro! Yawn

4: Overpriced DLC for a generic ARPG

5: Weeb point and click novel crap

6: Life Is Strange Beyond The Storm. LIS is good. Square Enix title. This I might buy. Or I might watch one of my favorite twitch streamers play it through and not buy it. At least its something...

7. Survival shooter with dinosaurs. Good investment of 60 dollars... not.

8. Uninteresting turn based strategy in space. Novel concept.

9. So last day of june, I hate these kinda games. Every since the first person dared to make "artistic" narrative driven games, dumpster fire fodder like Gone Home has flooded Steam for pretentious t***s looking to find the gaming equivalent of Black Swan in a low class medium. If I wanted to watch a movie, I wouldve fired up my fucking DVD player. The game looks amazing, something I would definitely buy, except theres no video game part. ITs like a fucking half complete game where the only bothered to do the story and not give the player anything to actually do.
News flash, a great game needs both.... not one or the other. Life Is Strange manages to capture the balance of being mostly story driven but still feeling like a video game, rather than press A to get to next scene simulators, its one of very few of these types to actually pull it off.

10. Dungeons and dragons turn based strategy set as a board game. Actually looks moderately interesting. Might follow to see if it goes on sale for like 5 bucks. Doesnt seem worth the price currently... but it's again... better than most of the others.

Yeah the main thing is im not real big on indie gaming outside of niche stuff like sports management games.

Ever since the dawn of the mobile free to play gaming era, indie gaming is vapid, lifeless and generally low budget. They cant afford to make real games so they try to appease the cult classic crowd and make cheap roguelikes, platformers or retro bullshit to appeal to 30 year old virgins... Ditto for minimalist turn based rpgs and point and click adventure games.

A game of real quality is something like Grand Theft Auto 5, Fallout New Vegas, Red Dead Redemption, Shenmue series (3 soon!) etc.

All of these happen to be open world, but its not mandatory. I also loved the Paper Mario series, many of the 3D Mario platformers and LoZ style games.

They literally just dont make games like this anymore or they come out like once every 4-5 years... Im getting old I dont have time to be waiting this long. Its all rehashed sports titles and the annual Call of Duty title..

All of those games were generic, rehashed versions of the most spammed genres in gaming right now..

None of them had anything interesting about them or innovative.

Hell if a game isnt original, it should at least be fun and engrossing.

They literally just dont make games like this anymore or they come out like once every 4-5 years... Im getting old I dont have time to be waiting this long. Its all rehashed sports titles and the annual Call of Duty title..

So you hate waiting a few years for a new game, but you also hate it when a game series releases a title every 1-2 years...

We've had some great games this year such as LoZ: BotW, Nier: Automata, Sonic Mania, Persona 5, Prey, Resident Evil 7, Horizon: Zero Dawn, etc.
How is gaming dead?

Most of those are on consoles

But you mentioned Red Dead Redemption, Shenmue 3, LoZ, Paper Mario, and Mario which are all on console...
<_<

Edit: I listed those games because other people in this topic, such as Smarkil, seem to be referring to gaming in general instead of just PC gaming.

I played console as a kid.

Then the topic title should be "PC gaming is dead" or, more specifically, "Steam is dead."

Im about to throw in the towel.

Never before have I seen such a dearth of interesting titles to play-- indie games are all the same rehashed roguelikes, rts and fps... the new trend is these pathetic anime hentai visual novels, and your standard low effort turn based rpgs selling at 10 bucks a pop on Steam.
