Well for one Indiana was considered a northern state, thus why the monument is for imprisoned confederate soldiers and some slaves that were here. These soldiers I may not agree with their stances but they were just every day people of this country that were fighting for what they felt was their everyday lives and livelihood against an invading north. In many cases many of these soldiers were family members to people in the north as well. This monument had NOTHING to do with racism. The only people here being racist is the people trying to proclaim everything that doesn't fit their ideal way of things to be racist.
