This park is just a mile down the street from me.

Why do people want to erase history? I don't see the logic. This particular monument was really a death marker with the names of confederate soldiers and slaves that died at a prison camp on it. This isn't even a monument celebrating some famous general or anything.

You're celebrating history of a side that lost a war.

Those monuments all went up at the height of Jim Crow laws. They went up because of racism, not to celebrate history.

The war wasnt about human rights, black people were still treated like shit even in the north after the war.

Also black people fought for the confederacy, a lot of these monuments are to honor the dead who fought and died, should they be forgotten just because? They wont be in history books.

Hitler wasn't an American citizen nor did he fight for any part of America. We also don't have monuments to Churchill in our country for the same reason.

The Civil War was about slavery, regardless of what you white supremacist jackasses claim.

Also black people fought for the confederacy,

They were forced to because they were still slaves.

a lot of these monuments are to honor the dead who fought and died,

It's honoring traitors. Those monuments didn't go up immediately after the war; they went up 100 years later, right in the middle of Jim Crow. They didn't go up to honor the dead; they went up because of racism.

should they be forgotten just because? They wont be in history books.

Yes. And they are in history books; they're in there as the side that lost. Robert E Lee was a total scumbag who was also responsible for the genocide of Native Americans.

Also werent you going to close your account?

It still happened less than a lifetime ago, and we still got people denying it.
Now something that people seems to have forgoten are all the native American slaves.

Robert E Lee was actually an alright guy, he freed his slaves before Grant did.

Also, the US government doesn’t consider Confederate veterans to be traitors. Anyone who fought in the civil war is considered an American veteran, no matter which side it was for. Not to mention, the “traitor” argument is pretty stupid since our country was literally founded by treasonous “traitors”.

Hey guys, I got this great idea, lets take our slaves, who wants to be free, give them guns and tell them to fight those who want to give them freedom, nothing can go wrong, right?
Right?
Some were actually promised freedom if they fought.
It happened in the past with the Freedom War.

Now why are we not removing all Lincoln statues?
He supported the Fugitive Slave Act (which gave blacks even less rights, and anybody could claim ownership of a free black person) when he was running for President, and he supported the original 13th Amendment. The purpose of this original 13th Amendment was to make it illegal for congress to interfere with slavery in the South, virtually guaranteeing it would last forever.
And when General Hunter declared the freedom of 100,000 slaves in Florida, Lincoln decided to reverse hat order, because his ego prevented others from claiming his prize.
And dont forget his plan of shipping all free slaves to British colonies just to get rid of them.

But hey, lets whitewash him into being a nicer person instead because it look better in the history books.

Lol, they don't teach this in schools anymore. They do a cliffs notes version now that ignores the multitude of reasons behind the civil war in order to make it a good vs evil black and white affair.

Anyone who claims it was only about slavery is probably a teenager who was taught the simple version by a SJW instructor.

Well for one Indiana was considered a northern state, thus why the monument is for imprisoned confederate soldiers and some slaves that were here.

These soldiers I may not agree with their stances but they were just every day people of this country that were fighting for what they felt was their everyday lives and livelihood against an invading north. In many cases many of these soldiers were family members to people in the north as well.

This monument had NOTHING to do with racism. The only people here being racist is the people trying to proclaim everything that doesn't fit their ideal way of things to be racist. Those are the racists.
