New Jersey being terrible has been a joke (?) as long as I can remember.

Florida has the Floridaman memes.

Texas is pretty well known for their stand offish nature and the media loves to report the secession movement that is no where near being a serious effort in the population of the state.

I don't think there is a singular state that is recognized as the worst. Each has their quirks. And what constitutes "worst" is incredibly subjective. I'm not a fan of the bigot belt, but I'm I'm sure someone from there isn't a fan of my views either.

Florida is a newer one, probably because it earned the ire of the liberal media over the 2000 election. NJ had long been referred to as America's armpit.

The rest of NJ isn't that much better. Driving through NJ is more depressing than going through the recessed parts of Pennsylvania.

We may dogshit Florida, but Alabama is worse in every way. Sales tax is, like, 9%, eggs are $1.50 a dozen, it's either the lowest or bottom 3 in academics, and somehow has worse drivers than Georgia.

The only upside is the cheap gas.

Florida: Florida Man

Kansas: A dystopian Ayn-Randian Nightmare made real

Alabama: General backwards-ness and racism

Texas: Will go out of their way to avoid determining if they actually have the right guy before executing him and even worse...sends Ted Cruz to the Senate

Those are probably the worst bunch. West Virginia I think people mostly just feel sorry for.

Well, up to now I think people mostly felt sorry for them. True, that's probably rapidly changing as they firmly establish themselves as asshole victims.

There are certain cities in NJ that aren't great. The "jug handle" traffic pattern is weird. Not having to pump your gas is a bonus since they already have the cheapest gas and it's full service. There are also some beautiful parts of the state. The beaches get packed during the summer and renting beach houses for a week is a very common thing.

All that said, Connecticut has nothing going for it.

Don't feel bad.

Jobs won't come back no matter how much they fight the epa or try to slash regulations. But they won't think of electing someone to local government who isn't "a friend of coal".

Pretty much all of the NE states have beautiful land and many of them have better beaches. All of them lack the smell of NJ too.

It looks good by virtue of being next to the cesspool known as NJ, but it is a pretty shitty state. Top3 for gas taxes, yet worst roads in the country and 3rd worst bridges (you know, those things that gas taxes pay for).

Plus, if you go east of Hartford, the rest of the state is practically just forest. Kinda the same if you go north of north of Bristol in that direction. The state is really just developed along parts of the coastline and on the side down towards NYC. And, thanks to decades of leftist social policies, the state has spent itself into debt and deficit while gutting its economy and private sector.

This, although "worst" and "unpopular" have some wiggle room because a poorly-ran state can still enjoy popularity (case in point being CT, which is a pretty awful state but adored by liberal-progressives for being liberal-progressive/far-left)
