Wait is it true what they said in that video that the fine print says at any minute passengers can get booted?

Yes, CE's armchair lawyers have no idea what they're going on about.

An airline should never actually exercise this option because it's a PR disaster, but they absolutely can.

ToS aren't legally binding. You can't put shit in fine print that says "by buying this plane ticket, we own your house and car."

Like, that works on fairies and contracts with Satan, but in real life any Judge with half a brain will rule the contact is bullshit.

Holy non sequitur Batman, what the actual fuck does any of that have to do with getting on a plane?

You tell me. I was responding to your comment regarding the ToS.

I point out that part of the conditions of the ticket is that you may be bumped from your flight.

You are making a baseless claim that this is an unenforceable term, and as evidence you state that they cannot claim ownership over your house and car, something totally unrelated to the air travel agreement being entered into.

It is illegal to sell someone a service and then not provide that service. Putting "we may choose to just not give you this service at any time" after selling you the service is illegal.

Do you think the Airline should be legally allowed to kick off every passenger and just fly around with an empty plane?

That's not what they're doing. They're selling you the flight with the caveat that if they overbook they can bump you, delaying but not cancelling service, and they are legally required to provide you compensation. Think about that. There are laws specifying that they have to provide compensation when they legally bump you. Let that sink in and maybe you'll realize that maybe they're allowed to bump you, because it's in the agreement and not an unenforceable term.

Overbooking is not a good approach here as it's also illegal to sell things that you don't fucking have.

Edit: They also didn't overbook anyway. there were 3 empty seats. They wanted a 4th.

Yes, and the man's situation would be similar to them beating your wife in the face and then dragging her out while she's dazed but still screaming. Something tells me you, and everyone else here, would not be saying, "Well, honey, you should have 'volunteered' to get off, but now you have to get your ass whooped because of the fine print."

So in other words it was overbooked. They needed 4 seats and there were only 3.

At this point I'm not sure if you're just trolling and this is an example of Poe's law, because I know you're not uneducated. But your arguments lack even the most basic premises of logic so I'm going to stop talking to you about this now.

They needed 4 seats for employees that did not have any tickets and were on standby.

It's not like it was a family of 4 that also paid for their tickets.

So no, nothing was overbooked because the people trying to get on the plane didn't book anything.

Actually if they did choose me and my wife, I would be pissed but I would go outside and talk with customer service reps to give me and my wife a better incentive or work out a better solution or something. I wouldn't go violent.

Of course that still doesn't excuse how they handled the situation though. It's shitty all around to kick a person off the plane when they're already seated. What wolverine said was correct though, they should've done the thing before they boarded.

Update.

2 faced United CEO sends a cryptic, half assed pseudo-apology to the public, then secretly gives a pat on the back to United employees and basically tells them well done:

http://www.cnbc.com/2017/04/10/united-ceo-passenger-disruptive-belligerent.html

Wasn't this CEO put there because United had a HUGE PR disaster back in 2005 and the previous CEO was ousted? It seems they got a corporate culture issue here. Imagine hating your own customers this much.

Was that the dude screaming? Damn, I dont know if there's a longer video but from those few seconds I'd say dragging was probably the right decision.

I'm sure you'd end up screaming too if you got socked in the face and had them try to forcefully remove you (which they legally cannot do.)

Um, nah, I would have gotten out of my seat and got off the plane.

And why does it matter that the dude is a doctor.... I've been wondering that, do people only care about this story because it was a doctor? Same shit with this color person did something to this color person. If the dude worked at foot locker it would have never even been mentioned, but omg he's a doctor he's amazing he should have whatever he wants!!!!!

You wouldn't say the same thing if your mom was bloodied up and dragged away for doing nothing except stay in a flight that she paid money for. If you instigated something of course the person who didn't do anything wrong except live and breathe would act defensive. Plus that money he was being offered was like 1 cent to him. He's a rich doctor who had to see patients.

My mom isn't a half wit so this would never happen to my mother. Like most people she knows how to talk to people and work withing a system instead of acting like a child.

They've pretty much already lost the lawsuit if he decides to sue their asses.

It depends on what's written on the fine print.

No it doesnt. He purchased a ticket and is entitled to his seat

Not really. Maybe if he was the best surgeon in the world and the only person capable of performing a surgery.

If he worked in a clinic and it was routine check ups then appointments can be rescheduled or they can see another doctor. If it was a hospital there are a pool of doctors and this guy missing a day won't impact anything.

No and I've said several times now that they're a shitty company. I've missed flights, been bumped, lost luggage and charged extra bull shit free that other airlines dont/didn't have. I hate them.

I mostly started commenting because everyone was talking about the security/cop /Marshall or whatever he was. I've done that job. I can emphasize with the guy being demonized for legally removing a trespasser.

I've stated that this was handled wrong and that I don't like the policy but it's the policy that exists that this guy agreed to.

I also hate all this "he needed to see patients." I worked in a hospital. He didn't.
