They're selling you the flight with the caveat that if they overbook they can bump you, delaying but not cancelling service, and they are legally required to provide you compensation. Think about that. There are laws specifying that they have to provide compensation when they legally bump you. Let that sink in and maybe you'll realize that maybe they're allowed to bump you, because it's in the agreement and not an unenforceable term. Overbooking is not a good approach here as it's also illegal to sell things that you don't fucking have. Edit: They also didn't overbook anyway. there were 3 empty seats. They wanted a 4th. --- ...
