I didn't because:

1. Losing the full version killed my enthusiasm.
2. I think I've nommed it like 2-3 times in a row now so I wanted to go somewhere new.
3. It actually slipped my notice it was on the cut line. I think I saw it get a bunch of support early and just mentally filed it down as "safe"

Mystic Pendulum was the first 4-vote song, but somebody withdrew from it at the time, thinking it was safe. (Or maybe that they didn't like that I was going to use the OP version.)

Wonderful. Big Blue and Battle with Magus both in, and one less crappy Atelier Ayesha song. I seem to remember liking most of the other returners on that list.

Officially, 17 of my 20 noms got in. I'm happy with this, even if in the end, I was only the original nominator for one of those 17.

(And that's just a technicality; a number of songs that I'd have gladly nominated myself were already nominated when I first arrived, including three that made the Top 10 of the top 100 list that I made in early 2014)

...Wait. I remember there being a ton of Atelier Ayesha stuff in the bracket last year and it almost all being crap, but I think there was one that I liked. Please don't tell me that it was Mystic Pendulum; I explicitly remember hating MARIA, so I know it wasn't that.

...Or maybe it wasn't that game in particular, but the series in general. Ayesha was the worst, but the franchise as a whole was inescapable last year, and I'm pretty sure that I'm happy that Flying Clouds, Drifting Haze is one that's returning.

But yeah, I'm really happy with this field, even beyond my own noms. Post #363 in the other topic said "the sonic representation of MAXIMUM HIGH SPEED is... jazz, I guess", and I was like, "ooh, I love jazz! And it probably won't get much support, so maybe I should even give it a double...oh, wait, that support that first showed it to me made it a 4/3; I guess I don't need to help it after all".

I really do need to get to these nomination topics sooner, though; it seems like there are always a few Bravely Default songs in here, but never any of the good ones.

14 of my final nominations made it in, 7 of them being ones from my original 20 from day 1. I'm quite happy with the 14 I helped get in, might be one of the stronger such groups in a while. If nothing else I really liked a couple of new discoveries.

For those that have the same number of total matches, I prioritized more total appearances, even though the same number of matches on fewer appearances means a better average. For same number of appearances, I prioritized most 4th-round appearances, followed by most 3rd-round appearances. If the exact rounds reached were exactly the same, I prioritized recency of last appearance, then recency of best appearance (e.g. all of those VGMC8 debuts that have made round 3 in all three contests since.)

True. Even considering that fields used to be twice as large, we've never had more than 2 until this year, when we rose to 4.

Which...actually doesn't bother me that much. I love Fire Emblem as a series, but I don't consider it to be elite from a soundtrack standpoint. Also, I can't find any YouTube videos with the FE:A DLC's remixes of previous games' tracks, and while I might consider some FE4 songs anyway--though the one that was nominated this year doesn't do it for me--I prefer the FE:A versions. If that's interest I'm seeing, though, I'll make a note to nominate "Vs. Alvis" next year, even if I have to nominate the original instead of the FE:A version (used in the "Infinite Regalia" DLC map).

And on the subject of remixes...seriously, no one else was willing to follow me into S3&K's Final Boss theme, even though the vastly inferior Generations remix is already a retired song? Charlatans! ;D (Not that the Generations version isn't fine as well, but S3&K has one of the best soundtracks of the 4th generation and it's really disappointing that the only song originally from that game to retire was an 8th generation remix--and hopefully I'll at least get to pluralize that after this year, because Flying Battery is my favorite song from that soundtrack and it has a remix in the field this year.)

Fair enough. Was going to get disappointed about doing all that work for nothing, but your brief history didn't differentiate between something returning after a long hiatus and something that debuted recently and has been on the verge ever since.

Just an update for the start of a new page...

Listened through mostly everything last night before bed, started to pick out some of the stronger songs for positioning. I placed maybe a quarter of the tracks. Assuming I haven't grossly mis-evaluated anything, that's actually the easier part. Positioning the middle tracks is a lot trickier, as is coming up with first round pairings. Inevitably, I will Ed Bellis you at some point, but I hope to minimize the number of songs that go out earlier than they objectively should.

Honestly not certain how much I'll get done today. I do have a few other things to turn my attention toward today, as well as several jobs later on.

Well after actually looking at the field, it looks like I got 3 original noms and 3 supports in, which actually isn't terrible. If I been around in any real capacity yesterday I could have shifted doubles off of my 3/2's and gotten 2 or 3 more in also. (3/2's where I was the single vote)

Also about Fire Emblem--the series is in a bit of a weird place where I like all the songs, but (until now) not enough to actually nominate them. Don't Speak Her Name is the the first FE song I've liked enough to actually nominate though.

While we brace for a week of WHERE'S THE DAMN BRACKET-style yelling, I thought it'd be a fun time to make a (potential series of) VGMC Name That Tune.
