Or maybe it's not anything at all? Just asking because it feels like there's a lot more words in there (unless it's actually the same lyrics just in Emotional Song Pact or something)

Yeah. There's a lot of it that's neither Japanese nor English, and there's no official lyrics so I've got nothing. There are a few parts that I think are in English, though (I swear I hear "I just announced" at 1:00 and "For the fallen, For the garden, Let me in" at 1:13, though that might just be my ears playing tricks on me).

(The Japanese is from 0:20 to 0:53)

Would certainly help out isolated games like Undertale. Then again, judging from last year, Undertale didn't need any help.

Obviously, the impetus of the constraints is to promote diversity so we don't just end up with a ton of casual bait. I enjoy hearing the input from everyone, though, since obviously these rules have been in place a long time and that doesn't mean what worked 8 years ago still works today. Maybe the rule doesn't help, and I'd like to think I have a track record for listening to the crowd when it's prudent.


I'm curious, though. This is the first year of the traditional nomination system with a field of 128. What will that do to the "bar" when everyone starts to consolidate? Will songs with 4 nominations get in? Will it take 5, or 6? Or will the depleting of the board allow that to be enough again?

I actually don't consider that a terrible idea.

By the way I should ask this now--how does the Trails series (or anything similar) interact with the 2 per game rule? Specifically, are Trails in the Sky FC and SC considered the same game for the purposes of this rule, or separate? Right now I'm only planning on nominating two from either game regardless of the answer, but I figure I should ask now in case I decide I want a 3rd or want to support someone else's nomination from the game.

Second Chapter is a direct continuation of First Chapter, but they're totally separate games.

Given the ruling on the .hack games there is no way FC and SC shouldn't be counted as separate too.

I mean, otherwise you might as well say FFXIII, FFXIII-2 and Lightning Returns all count as a single game.

That'd be weird though if true. I don't think English is used anywhere else, so this would be a weird place to throw in fragments of it.

Oh and I guess I never followed up on this, and I think I should at least explain why I feel that way.

Basically what it amounts amounts to that--to give an example--I don't see any substantial difference between nominating two Persona 3 songs plus two Persona 4 songs as opposed to just nominating four Persona 4 songs. So, it doesn't make much sense to me why we allow one but not the other. And the recent examples of Trails and FFXIII are only making me feel this way more strongly. I guess another way to say that is--given that we already have this other series limitation, adding a per game limitation doesn't really feel like it's making things any more diverse to me, since people can just nominate other songs from the same series if they really want to. So as I see it the rule just comes across as being restrictive without a purpose while also disadvantaging unique music styles that only have 1 game to represent them. (Undertale is a good example as you said, though admittedly I think the list of games that would actually fall under this category would be pretty small)

Well, as Mycro pointed out, composer would make more sense from a diversity standpoint but that'd be considerably more work to check, along with assorted issues like soundteams, etc.

I mean, different FFs have different composers so the music can feel more different than say two unreleated games that share the same composer yet the former will count against the series rule whereas the latter wouldn't.

I honestly don't have a clue what's 2016 and worth listening to. The only songs I've added to my lists recently have all been from old games.

Normally I'd say it's fairly straightforward actually and it's LastPandemic and excess crayons. But we've tried crayons a few times already to no avail.

Not sure I'll go with 2 from Ciel anyway because of the series limit and Ar tonelico and all, but we'll see.
