Welcome to another round of the Best OST Contest, where we decide the best game soundtrack by voting on the songs in it.
Condensed rules and guidelines: * You must listen to both songs in the match. Use the provided links. * You must vote on the songs in the match. Not the game's overall music. Not how much you like the game itself. ***VOTE ON THE SONGS*** * To help enforce rule 2, All votes must be given for the song title, not the game or the seed number. No exceptions. * Normal contest rules apply about alts, rallying, multi-voting, etc. * No mid-thread tallies, please. * Matches run 24 hours from when they start.
Previous results: a. In the battle of songs with "of" from games with "II", Waltz OF Gears got out in front of Peace OF Mind and never looked back. Ar Tonelico II advances 21-10. b. This match started off with Life - A Distant Promise getting out to a decent lead. It seemed like that was all there was going to be to this tale, but for the second straight match, Shatter pulls out a crazy night vote and Kinetic Harvest took the lead. Even though the last two votes went to Chrono Cross, we have ourselves the single most significant upset in the tournament right here. *SHATTER* advances, 16-15.
------------------------------------------ 1. NieR vs 4. Neotokyo
Imbrium is pretty good, but Hills of Radiant Wind is better.
Not as big a fan of Endless Nine as some others; I'll give the edge to Spark Mandrill here.

Best of the NieR soundtrack vs. Very solid Neotokyo song...I think I'll go with Imbrium
Actually Mycro why didn't you put in Automata into this lineup? It's probably my second favorite Neotokyo song and I think it's especially powerful, but whatever.
Second match >> First match, though both matches were close.
Hills of Radiant Winds Endless Nine
Hills of Radiant Winds is such a guilty pleasure of mine. It's very outstanding by itself, but at the same time it is and it isn't for me (ugh, too hard to explain). The beautiful voice of the singer brings me back to one of the better times of my life, but that's about it (glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks that it just doesn't do much). Imbrium is just another failed electronic improvisation of the Neotokyo OST IMO, but I gotta admit that it has cool parts too; just polish it up with the good parts, removing the inconsistencies, and you'd have a very cool song (just like pretty much the vast majority of the Neotokio OST).
Endless Nine reminds me of the Sheep Raider OST xD; the song is very cool, but that being said, it's weird sounding (lol Microsoft Sam) and has many noticeable inconsistencies. Spark Mandrill is great, but it's too short to be better than Endless Nine. An extension of Spark Mandrill would edge it out.
In general, NieR v Neotokyo is probably the best OST matchup yet, IMO. However of the songs in this particular match, Hills of Radiant Wind is one of the weaker songs NieR could put up, and Imbrium is probably in the upper third at least for Neotokyo. That leads to a mismatch that lets Neotokyo run away with a match that quite honestly NieR probably could have won for me with a different song here.
Meanwhile, Endless Nine is my least favorite from Umineko's list but that's not really helping Spark Mandrill because the match still isn't close for me.

Imbrium - very easily Endless Nine - first Umineko song i actually liked, and still one of my favorites. best one in this other than ded. Spark Mandrill is very good too.
Imbrium is interesting, I liked it more than I expected to. Still, I really enjoy Hills of Radiant Wind, love the vocals for it. So it edges out over Imbrium, though in other matches I would support Imbrium. Spark Mandrill manages to uphold the tradition of me not really caring for Mega Man X pieces, and Endless Nine is an interesting piece that I definitely could see myself enjoying a lot with multiple listens. One is enough for it to easily overcome Spark Mandrill, at least.

You laugh at my Celtic Guardian, until I use my Scapegoat, and then United We Stand, Mage Power, and 3 Axe Of Despairs, with Gaia Power out. 11900/7800
Imbrium. Hills of Radiant Wind is one of the nicer tracks from NieR, I think-- relatively upbeat and straightforward, if on a pretty short loop. I particularly like the piano near the end of the loop. But Imbrium's arguably my favourite track from the Neotokyo soundtrack-- the shifting delay on the voices, the piano/harp section in the middle, the strings climax with the fat synth bass, it's all great stuff.
(I like Automata as well-- I'm not sure what would make it less likeable than other Neotokyo tracks! It's also one of the few themes that's revisited later in the soundtrack [in Radius]. But then again I'm not sure how my preference in Neotokyo tracks lines up with others-- I don't have any special fondness for Scrap I/O, for example.)
Endless Nine. I'm not a huge fan of most MMX tracks; Spark Mandrill doesn't really stand out to me, though the random short drum solo at the end of the loop makes me chuckle. Endless Nine's pretty cool-- maybe my favourite dai track-- and has a great sense of urgency. I'm very partial to the xylophone in the intro and the piano at 1:15.
Gave my vote in the Discussion topic, but reposting it here since I don't see you giving it as an advance vote.
Two good songs, but Hills of Radiant Wind is far better.
Spark Mandrill is one of the better MMX songs we've had here so far, but Endless Nine is miles ahead of it. This song would not feel at all out of place in a Touhou game.
