Also hated the battle system that you had to switch everyone in at some point in order for them to gain exp... turned even the most basic fight into a bit of a grind making sure no one got left behind. Characters are the most important thing to me in an RPG, especially the lead or primary character. I think if Yuna was the main character, and they eliminated the Romance, I probably would have liked it a lot more. I hated 8 for almost the same reason, except the plot was almost entirely about the romance, and the stupid "we all knew each other, we just forgot" plot point (and I hated the Draw and Junction system). I'm more into the ensemble cast FF games too. If you're obsessed with keeping levels equal just do it like you would any other FF game and swap less used guys in outside of combat every once in a while. Or just don't keep them equal I had Lulu and Kimahri both with less than 1000 hp at the end of the game. -- No problem! There's no other way to play it this generation. (the worst part: it's the PSX port, lawl) For all the others all you need is a PSP and PS3 (X and XII will eventually get their HD releases) EDIT: wait wait, also a DS for FFIII. But at least that one's sort of still current gen. I managed to beat the very first game since my best friend had an NES, and I got stuck at his house for like 3 days during a blizzard. However, between literal availability and my lack of the correct console, it wasn't until 12 that a game was coming out for something I had. I've played everything from 7 forward in passing, but the only one I put serious time into was 8, and that was on a cruddy PC port that crashed constantly. I got frustrated and quit.
