Mario/Samus looked pretty even before their one-on-one match turned into one of the most impressive SFF-beatings we've seen at 60-40. Epona/Navi have a lot less information suggesting they're even, but what we do have still suggests that...so a 60-40 victory here isn't some bad thing. Epona's clearly winning and neither one of them looked pathetic the round before, so it's hard to really hate on the performance.
A lot of people found Navi useful anyway...not nearly as useful as Navi insists, sure, but her preventing being Link/Ganondorf'd isn't a shocker.

Jeez, guys, aren't you even looking at the comments on the Epona/Navi match? There CAN'T be any significant SFF because the Zelda fanbase in Gamespot is totally split. There are A LOT of Navi fans in the Gamespot forums, so 60-40 seems perfectly reasonable to me. Sure, have 'em face each other in a 1-v-1 on GameFAQs and I'm sure Epona would totally destroy Navi with severe SFF, but we're talking about the Gamespot fanbase.

Being equal to Navi and needing SFF isn't something you want to argue for Epona either.
And we've already seen how useless vote-in results are, so there's not much point in bringing them up.
But hey, I'm all for Clank being a top 10 character.
It all goes back to having very little information on Navi and not seeing much from the LoZ-series outside of the big three, Midna, and Tingle. Being equal to Navi isn't a bad thing if we're wrongly under-estimating her, and right now we still don't know that.
Probably the only important thing we'll take away from this contest regarding LoZ is that Navi's no longer a contender for the next-strongest LoZ-character and maybe get some semi-accurate comparison between Epona and Midna...maybe. We won't get any true judgement on Navi, and Epona will likely be conceived as a success or flop just based off of our perspectives and thoughts on WCC unless she upsets the box and still does well after that.

You're underestimating her big-time on Gamespot. On GameFAQs? I'm sure she's pretty hated.

They're still Nintendo-fans, specifically LoZ-fans. While differences are plenty possible, I don't think there will be a big difference between GameFAQs and GameSpot on this one. I believe the Navi-hate's already been acknowledged by them performing similarly for general recognition in the vote-in yet Epona breaking 60% on her head-to-head.

Yes, but I'd take Epona to at least 70-30 Navi in GameFAQs, and we're talking about LoZ-fans as well. She just seems to be a lot more beloved on Gamespot than in any other place (take the comments on the match or the forums as a proof of that).

Either way, I'll be nominating both Epona and Navi for the next contest. I think they got potential to be a perfect combination of gimmick (like WCC and Lblock) and quality (OoT).
--
If I had to live my life again, I'd make the same mistakes, only sooner.
For God sake, junk, if there's one thing, ONE thing people hate about OoT is Navi. The hate towards Navi on GameFAQs looks (and I think IS) really strong. ZeldaFAQs (particularly OcarinaofTimeFAQs) has an almost universal consensus that Navi is annoying (me being in the tiny minority). Not really to the level of Tingle, of course, but still...

I have a hard time believing Navi would be anything more than a low midcarder. Heck, even that seems like a bit of a stretch, looking at how Tingle performed.

When I was making my bracket, I just said that I didn't have the heart to pick Gears of War and Halo characters to defeat Final Fantasy mainstays.
Oops. Spending a disproportionate amount of time on GameFAQs and Board 8 compared to most other gaming sites has clearly spoiled me. However, I'm still largely puzzled as to how these casual shooters are "stronger" than FF on many non-GameFAQs sites - FF is a series that has had more impact, has a more hardcore fanbase, and is oft-seen as the beacon for video games as an artistic medium, while Halo and Gears are just flash-in-the-pan casual-fests in comparison.
Not gonna lie, I figured the Facebook rallies would affect these results a lot more. I might be wrong, but from the looks of it, Dogmeat and Agro would actually be pretty dang close if not for the Fallout FB page.

A Zelda character being stronger on GameSpot than GameFAQs? Isn't that a bit weird with how much GameFAQs likes Nintendo? If she has strength on GameSpot I think she would have some strength on GameFAQs as well. The problem is I'm not sure how good of a read we'll actually get on Navi from this contest.
Currently I'm only missing two Round 2 matches: Launchpad and Vivi. I guess Diddy still has a chance to win. I'm currently regretting my Price over Santiago pick, though. Maybe Launchpad will bail me out.

Pokemon VGC2011 NW Regional - Top 8 Pokemon VGC2011 US Nationals - 54th place
The Water Temple wasn't bad at all last time I played OOT. I literally remember thinking "huh, people constantly complain about this?" the whole time I was in the Water Temple.
Ocarina of Time fans are people who I'll most likely NEVER understand. The Water Temple is the only genuinely interesting temple in Ocarina of Time (Jabu Jabu is close, but it could've been better) and they complain about it because it was too hard and confusing, which makes me wonder if the people who hate Majora's Mask dislike it because of how intricate its temples are (aside from the 3-Day Cycle complains), and if they have even played the first Zelda games which were also a lot harder dungeon-wise (Zelda 1 at least).
They also nag about Navi, but I've never heard ANY complaints about Tatl, so what the heck?

I like Tatl a little bit more than Navi because she has a better characterization. She is forced to be with you through the entire adventure and she just have to resignate and adapt, so the bond between Link and Tatl slowly becomes stronger.
But the question remains:
How would Tatl be any less annoying than Navi (specially considering what I just mentioned)?

Eh... I don't think that's a big difference. But anyway... let's see what's up with the contest.
Currently losing in my bracket:
Chocobo (seems like it's not going to have the chance to recover though...)
Moogle (he's down by 0.4% since last time I checked yesterday... this ain't very good. He needs a big rally)
Zero (even though he earned 0.8% on his favour since last time I checked yesterday, he still has a long, rough road ahead if he wants to pull off a victory)
Toad (the only reason I can explain Toad still losing is that people don't really consider him a sidekick, while Daxter has proven to be loved by nearly everyone)
Diddy Kong (even though he has been recovering steadily and he's down by merely 0.2%, this is kind of a bad result as I expected him to have already taken the lead by a decent margin. Anyway, there's still 2 days left and everything seems in his favour, so...
Additional notes/thoughts: Einstein officially down. There's no way he could retake without a massive rally.

Every match looks pretty locked in apart from Diddy/Vivi, and that one's too boring to care about. Most interesting thing now is whether Clank can outpace Luigi for blowout of the round.

I went into the Water Temple expecting some kinda hell since people always hated on it, and it was actually one of the more enjoyable dungeons. I dunno why people hate it
I'm getting close to the Water Temple in LoZ:OoT3D, so I'm excited to see if I still hate it or not. I've heard the remake makes the temple work a lot better by making the Iron Boots an item instead of part of your equipment (so you don't have to bring up the menu every time you want to switch), so hopefully the rumor's true. That could be enough to change my opinion of the temple nowadays.

AxemRedRanger posted... Einstein's coming back. Less than 1000 votes from Yoshi now, almost 2 days left. This might not even be a tough win.
The problem is if they can sustain it or not. There are long times where there aren't any topics about it on /v/ that they'll fall behind. If they can sustain it, Einstein has it won
They're already kinda lagging.. first couple updates I saw, Einstein was cutting 100 an update. Now hes down to about 40. They need to get a big lead here to stand a chance, and at this pace I'm not even sure they get the lead at all.
-edit- Nevermind, seems like they were just slow for a few updates. They're back to the 100 vote cuts now.
