Well, as time passes by, the results become much clearer (and have a lot more sense), so I'll check tomorrow morning when everything solidifies even more, and THEN we can probably make some stats of some sort and make predictions for future matches.

Frog made a comeback and is winning again. Never change, Frog. Minsc is winning again too. And Moogle did a pretty good job of stalling and is still only behind by a few hundred votes.

Wow, quite the turn around. Frog is up by 2500 now. Vote swings are so common on Gamespot after he was down by 2000 last night
After seeing the results now, I don't think 4chan is really a big threat, or even a threat at all. The results look extremely solid. It was just them grabbing the first couple of hundreds of votes to create "FEAR" and push the entire GS community to think that the contest wasn't able to be taken seriously anymore. 4chan is WAY weaker than I thought.

Basically, they are strong enough to be a factor in one or two matches. It doesn't seem significant now, but once we get to the later rounds when theres very few matches, 4chan driving Launchpad and Einstein to victory will be significant.
Just like with Bub and Bob the first year, and Raam last year, they generally play to the strength of their opponent. They'll get that 50.1% or whatever it takes to win. Only way to really knock them out is to either get caught cheating (like what eventually happened with Bub & Bob) or just be way too strong to fight against (like with Vader beating Raam last year). Luigi I don't think is strong enough.
4chan's primary target to take down are the "1-seeds", a.k.a. Tails, Garrus, Otacon, Alyx, Cortana, etc... But their primary target is to take down Luigi, which is weird considering he's the one who's been performing the best so far with over 81% in its match. If he's the primary target, then there's a chance Alyx > Luigi if it gets enough rallying from 4chan, but as minimal as the impact of their votes seem right now, I wouldn't really count 4chan as a big deciding factor on an Alyx > Luigi match, specially considering she's one of the characters that they want to take down first. In that case, I wonder if there's going to be any real intervention at all, as well as in Yoshi vs. Garrus (assuming Yoshi can beat Einstein's rallying in Round 2, which is definitely an important factor to consider. If Yoshi gets defeated, well... the coin will officially be flipped in the contest).
Hey, this is fun!

I think the entire right side of the bracket is locked up. Only missed Murray/Maya so whatever. The left side, though, has many close matches. I really need Moogle to pull off its win against Athena, and for Einstein to keep its lead on Falco. It would be nice for ROB to try and come back but I don't think that's happening.

That Moogle vs Athena match is really close... Moogle can seems to be able to take the lead... but Athena can seems to be able to extend her lead... the vote difference is between 150 and 250 for the past 24 hours!!!
I have to believe that's about the only reason why Falco and Einstein were specifically pitted against each other.
I picked Falco to win that because he's more mainstream nowadays, SF643D was releasing right around the nomination period, and I thought people would anti-vote Einstein to get "non-VG characters" out (picked Launchpad > Price though because lol Call of Duty).
Why are Barry Burton and Sheva Alomar here while Ada Wong isn't? Ada has more exposure than both of those two in the core RE series and to my knowledge is generally far more-liked by RE fans than Barry and Sheva.

Where's exactly the "fail" (specially now that the results are as expected as ever)?

Zing!
I used to pity them, but I can't really feel bad anymore. They've had so many chances to fix the inherent flaws in their contests, and they just haven't.
-- CRAZY DAVE (PLANTS VS. ZOMBIES) Your Character Battle IX champion.
This is despite the staff saying after each contest they are looking into said flaws for their next contest. I can understand maybe being stubborn with their format after the first one's controversies, just to give it a fair chance again and see if it works for them...but there's no excuse now. I think they shortened the lengths of their rounds a little, but that's the most they've done to it.
This will potentially be the contest 4chan butchers the least, but -- because I see GameSpot's stagnant in its bad decisions -- I still care as little as ever about their contests. I just want to see the winner and how Epona does, and I don't know if I can stretch that out over a month anymore for GameSpot!

They don't advertise them, so they get terrible vote totals. They don't give a crap about cheating, despite what they say. They still use this horrible format that is not conducive to getting lots of votes to begin with (Nobody wants to go through one page at a time to vote for 32 matches, so only people who really care will do that). They keep getting less and less interesting contest ideas. There's no telling what they'll do next time, probably something like Favorite Damsel in Distress.
I'd be as interested in a Best Game Ever-contest at GameSpot as I can be for a GameSpot contest...but yeah, anything else at this point would be difficult to care about.

Personally I don't think the Gamespot Contests are as bad as everyone say. Sure, they aren't run as well as Gamefaqs, but they're enjoyable and a good enough appetizer for the Gamefaqs contests. I enjoy seeing how another gaming community votes.

Yeah, you're right about the extreme lack of advertising (and also about the cheating, although it still seems minimal to me, at least in this contest), but I find the 32-matches-at-a-time format quite interesting. I don't know, I just find it fun to rant about Aika and Maya losing in their respective matches. It's fun to see how all of the characters are doing each time you want to take a look at them, making it feel more dynamic for particular discussions of interesting matches, x-stats, and how the trends go over the days for them. It also gets rid of a lot of fodder way quicker than 12-hour 1-v-1 matches, and the contest doesn't feel like during an eternity (3 weeks vs. 2 months?). Plus, I think the overall layout of each match with the pics and all is pretty cool.
Oh, and I don't find the contest ideas to be a problem... yet. Just standard Character Battle contests with a slightly fun twist.

LeonhartFour posted... From: FateStayAlbion | #342 Personally I don't think the Gamespot Contests are as bad as everyone say. Of course you don't. You think 4-ways are entertaining, too.
Having matches with more factors in play so the results aren't as predictable is more fun. Maybe not as reliable from a stat perspective, but thats the point. If everything always went right as the stats say, why even have matches in the first place?
LeonhartFour posted... Except you can have unpredictability without bad formats.
And 4chan's rallying is fairly predictable to begin with.
What does 4chan have to do with 4ways? I was just saying why I like them.
4chan is a problem with the Gamespot contests, but not a major one. The only rallying in a Gamespot match that was in a significant (aka not one of the first few rounds) wasn't even 4chan, but Steam. And hell, seeing if 4chan can keep up with the vote intake against popular characters is pretty enjoyable since its like an actual battle going on instead of just static vote intake like with Gamefaqs.
I'm guessing that Albion is just saying that the multi-battle format isn't as bad as everyone says since it gives a decent amount of unpredictability compared to regular formats. Albion never said it made them unpredictable, but rather less predictable.
I'd agree, but the complaining about these contests is from much more than just that. Leonhart's post number 339 shows a lot of the other problems with the contest.
And really, it's just silly that a site like gamespot can't blow out a site like gamefaqs' votals with a format that's more conductive to amassing votes. They *have* to be f***ing something up for that to happen...
