Christians are usually every bit as condescending as non-Christians in religious arguments here.

I hope you're kidding.

Christians here don't insult the intelligence of non-Christians. You can't have a religious discussion on this board without somebody either laughing or calling religious folk idiots/delusional.

See, that's what I don't get. I'm not an active churchgoer, but I have friends and family who are and not a single one of them is into the God part of Christianity. They instead focus on the tenets of Christianity centered around living a wholesome life doing good deeds for yourself and those around you. Honestly most active Christians don't really care about the magical mumbo jumbo in the Bible.

Comments like these go to show how little you understand of religion. It has several, distinct aspects. If in the future you want to avoid sounding as idiotic as you do in this post, I suggest some reading:

I'll go with yes I guess. Been awhile since I've been to church and my sister (as well as others) often make me regret being one. That said, there's a lot that I don't believe in. I believe that much of what's in the bible has been vastly exaggerated by men.

If someone does not actually believe in God and just says they are a Christian because they believe in the tenets, then I obviously would not be suggesting they are delusional, but they still make no sense to me. I do not need some book written a long time ago with outdated morals to offer me tenets on how to live my life.

Christians here don't insult the intelligence of non-Christians.

I pointed out in my previous post that Christians often act like non-Christians are idiots for believing in the Big Bang theory. Next time read the topic before replying to one of my posts.

The two things Christians on the board complain about I'll never get are "non-Christians are way more condescending" and "there are a ton more non-believers on the board than Christians." Both of these statements are BS - the results of this poll prove that the latter statement is BS.

Umm, treat others they way you want to be treated is certainly not an "outdated moral".

About the discrepancy between Christians and non-Christians on B8: at the moment in red sox' topic there are way more "no" votes than here - of course a poll will always be somewhat arbitrary. There are more non-Christians here than Christians. But it certainly isn't a 90%/10% difference, as some Christians make it out to be.

Just because some stuff still fits doesn't mean the entire teachings do. Outdated moreso refers to gay rights and such.

Oh, well yeah, that. Um... not all Christians are anti-abortion, anti-gay rights, pro-war bigots. In fact I don't know a single person who is. I understand disliking the Westboro Baptist Church for their views (because those dudes are nuts), but there's a reason the headlines say "Westboro Baptist Church leader condemns gay marriage" and not "Christians as a whole condemn gay marriage".

But outdated doesn't refer to the followers, it refers to the teachings. And whether you want to admit it or not, the teachings are outdated in that regard, and are holding back progress. There are still a LOT of people that still take those old teachings to heart - otherwise gay marriage wouldn't be such a hot button issue, and would probably be legal in more than 6 states.

I'm not trying to blame Christians or anything here, I'm just saying this since some of you think it's crazy to call the bible's morals outdated.

Thinking pro-choice people are "anti-life" is a pretty radical viewpoint, yes.

I don't see how things like don't steal, murder etc are outdated.

except the bible also has lots of instances where it implies murdering is OK

the problem is the book is a walking contradiction that can support or condemn just about any behavior if you look hard enough or interpret it correctly

and look, fetus, you must just only meet really cool people. i don't know what else to tell you about that except that you are like, wrong, i guess. I mean, just to use gay marriage as an example, do you think that the westboro baptist church is why it is banned in 41 states? the facts just don't support your position.

But the Westboro Baptist Church isn't actually a church. They're lawyers who know how to make a fortune by trolling. I saw that interview with that crazy b**** and the anonymous guy. The woman has a terrible poker face. Newly cleaned windows are harder to see through than the WBC...

Raised as a Catholic, parents attend a non-denominational church... I'll be going tomorrow to church, actually, but I myself am not a Christian.

I think the religion offers and raises a lot of great, balanced, wholesome points to live a life by, but at the same time there's a lot of information and iffy material that either contradicts itself or just doesn't add up right. Some very basic stuff, at that. But, at the same time, I'm not entirely against the religion. I just don't believe in everything it has to offer, and thus I knowingly can't call myself a devout believer.
