Fun Fact: In a demo version of Ruby and Sapphire shown at Pokémon Festa 2002 in Japan, players started with a level 12 Sharpedo, suggesting it wasn't related to Carvanha by evolution, Carvanha evolved at a lower level or other means (such as an evolutionary stone or trading), or that Carvanha didn't exist.

I really want to put Sharpedo higher, but it just doesn't have enough redeeming qualities. It's design isn't awful, but for as many generic fish rehashes we get, you'd think they could make a more badass looking shark. Sharpedo also holds the longest amount of time that I didn't realize it was part of an evolutionary line. Seriously, why the hell does a piranha evolve into a shark? Makes no sense. One of my friends actually caught a shiny Sharpedo, which made me jealous because my token gen 3 shiny ended up being an Illumise (which grew on me over time). As much as I tend to like water pokemon, there's so many of them that ones that should land a higher spot don't because players can be so damn choosey about water pokemon if they insist on having one. I really do like the Water/Dark combo, but I wish it could be a little more useful. Maybe now that gen 5 is out, Rough Skin/Rock Helmet combo will give it a nice niche, but I kind of don't count on it.

Sharpedo got Speed Boost in gen 5, it's pretty good now.

Those DW abilities are so boring and time consuming to get in a legit sense that I'm not giving points for that.

Fun Fact: Oddish is the first Pokémon in National Pokédex order to be part of a branched evolutionionary family.

Most of this list ended up being fully evolved pokemon, so ranking NFEs is a bit funky, but I do what I can. As I've said before, grass types aren't really my "thing" but if I had to choose one to train in FR/LG, I'd snag an Oddish and make it a Vileplume. It's design is likeable and cute but not disgustingly so. I was always glad I got Red as a kid because Belsprout is horribly ugly and Oddish blows it out of the water. Oddish would have probably been knocked out a few spots ago, but it's depiction in Nuzlocke Comics is great.

Fun Fact:Stunfisk has the lowest Speed of all Electric-type Pokémon.

One of the great love/hate pokemon of Gen 5, Stunfisk is one of the funniest pokemon out there. Just look at this thing, it's so damn derpy. I don't know how it fairs in the competitive scene, but I'm sure it's not doing too hot. It would be awesome to see a evolution of this thing in a future gen, but I get the feeling it's going to be too derpy to figure out how evolution works and just chill out as an overall forgettable pokemon that eventually gets brought up in "most awful" or "most underrated" discussions.

Fun Fact: Staraptor is the only Flying-type Pokémon that can learn the moves Close Combat or Final Gambit.

Staraptor is one of the cooler generic bird pokemon and almost certainly the most useful in competitive play and watching it use Close Combat in the anime is one of the most hilarious things possible. I'm a little disappointed that I let the "generic bird" stigma keep me from using Staraptor in my Diamond or Platinum playthrough, but I'll probably pick one up if I ever bother playing through Platinum again. It's also got the second most awesome generic bird design. Could probably be a few places higher if people hadn't nominated a lot of stuff I like.
