My guess is they were holding off until now to see if they could negotiate and either this was the last straw for Ortega or they are just using this as an opportunity to torch the film and run. The film doesnt even have a shooting schedule yet so it being due to scheduling conflicts is odd.

100% this. They are going to destroy the industry they exist in and a lot of peoples livelihoods, and not even for profit. Its pure ideology.
