I do not agree. He would become a martyr to the right and they would go even farther into the MAGA cult. It would probably lead to a bunch more support for the party and forgiveness of Trump's actions leading to a big victory for Rs in 2024 and either DeSantis or Haley being president with both houses in Republican control.

It's possible but I don't think that's a guarantee. A Trump death could also lead to a bunch of apathy from conservative voters and aimlessness from GOP leadership. It's a wild card tbh

None of what you said is wrong, but if you dont at least threaten to withhold your vote youre saying dont listen to anything I ask, because you have my vote no matter what.

Its on the party to earn votes. If they lose, we all suffer, but especially the at risk groups, and its their fault.

You act like they care. They don't. If they don't get our vote, they'll just appeal to the more conservative voters, and we end up with even worse. The time to raise the questions is during primaries. And we absolutely need to be primarying dems that aren't advancing progressive policies especially in areas that are safe dem.

the obvious error in the withhold your vote plan is that every time it just falls back as people suffer the consequences of that choice for the next term

a strong third party vote is always followed by a collapse because people remember "oh fuck that was terrible, we have to prevent the greater evil". then they're reminded of the lesser evil and try again.

I appreciate the primary system, but I wish I could vote across party lines instead of only people within the party voting for party-candidates. I think that would stop a lot of the more extreme side of things.

That has pros and cons of course. My values lean one way more than the other, right, but we also probably wouldn't have Donald around and that would have been real nice in recent years. It also would help minimize politicians from flip-flopping between primaries and general elections.

Wouldn't be perfect in practice but I would like to see how that would work for us.

Trump could tell them hed personally make every person in America drink his diarrhea and his base would still support him even if he was 100% serious and enforced it. They will happily chug it knowing people who hate him would have to as well. Brain rot at its finest
