What movies have you watched countless times?

Like... if you had to make a Top 5 or Top 10 list of your most watched movies in your lifetime.
I know it's hard to gauge... but throw yours out there.

Octopussy is on TV this week.
And my mate said he watched that more than 20 times.
That's what got me thinking...

Here's mine, off the top of my head, in no particular order...

  1. American Pie
  2. The Matrix
  3. The Goonies
  4. Back to the Future II
  5. Back to the Future
  6. Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
  7. Home Alone
  8. Dumb & Dumber
  9. Happy Gilmore
  10. Big

I have a friend who is a Marvel fanatic and he watched Endgame like almost every month ever since it came out and I am still not sure he actually watched it more than 20 times

So uh..I will be very surprised if there are many people that have watched a movie more than 20 times..

I probably watched stuff like Pocahontas, The Lion King, and Toy Story over 20 times as a toddler but since then I don't think I've watched a move more than 5 times. If I had to guess my most watched movie is Ace Ventura: Pet Detective though

I saw Mad Max: Fury Road twice with the same person, and The Last Jedi twice with different people (and some of the same people)

Yeah, probably. Back then I only had a NES with like 10 games and no Internet
So if I wasn't playing, I was watching something. But even then I had enough variety because we recorded TV shows

Lion King does rank high for me but who knows how many...

Nothing anywhere near 20. House (1977) is definitely my most-watched, probably sitting around 10 times. I helped run a club in college essentially centered around midnight movies, and House was a film I introduced that everyone seemed to legitimately love. I still do an annual showing to introduce my new friends to it, and it has been a success every time.

After that, I don't think anything goes beyond 5. I don't revisit movies too much, as I'm too focused on exploring new ones.

But films I have watched a lot:

The Lion King
LOTR (various versions)
Nightmare before Christmas
Notting Hill
Maybe a few more Disney ones
Gladiator.
Hot Fuzz
Sean of the Dead
At Worlds End

20 times is a hell of a lot of time on one movie.

I don't voluntarily watch movies more than once a decade, if that often.

I guess as a kid my best friend would always put on either the last crusade or tiny tunes adventures before falling asleep during sleepovers (which was kind of annoying and prevented me from falling asleep) so I think those are the only two that *might* have reached that number

I do know someone that watched MIB at least 50 times during the time span I knew them. And I know someone else that watched Ghostbusters every day between the ages of 3 and 5

So the only contenders would be

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)
Groundhog Day
Bloodsport
Terminator 2
The Dark Knight

I think these all only breach 10 though.

TMNT and Groundhog Day might cap 20 by being movies I watched as a kid when we had a new shiny VCP (that's a P. player only!) and only had 2 VHS movies for like 6 months

I love films!! Watching something 20x is quite a lot for me, though. #1 I have watched probably 10x at this point, the others are in an indeterminate 'more than once but less than 10x' category.

  1. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust [2000] - incredible animation and cinematography
  2. Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow [2004] - retro zeerust feel and unexpectedly big ticket stars like Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie and a posthumous cameo of Sir Laurence Olivier
  3. The Iron Giant [1999] - funny and heartwarming
  4. Kate & Leopold [2001] - my fave modern rom-com
  5. Roman Holiday [1953] - my fave film
  6. Disney animated films insert - Aladdin [1992], Little Mermaid [1989], Hunchback of Notre Dame [1996] and Atlantis: The Lost Empire [2001] top the list here
  7. Other animated films insert - Anastasia [1997], Prince of Egypt [1998], Fievel Goes West [1991], FernGully: The Last Rainforest [1992] some of these were watched more than Disney but not all
  8. The Sound of Music [1965] - family fave
  9. Ben-Hur [1959] - papa's fave film
  10. Remember the Titans [2000] - mama was watching this every time I turned around when I was in high school idk
  11. Seasons of the Heart [1993] - a direct-to-video 19th century drama about a couple who adopts a little boy. Stand in for several similar family friendly Christian films from when I was growing up.
I saw Bohemian Rhapsody a couple of times at the cinema, but only because I was going with different people. Can't recall going out to see anything else multiple times.

I think the only films with 20+ viewings would be (their "film" status is dubious but I will count them for the topic's purposes):
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town

I've for sure watched these every year since I was 5.

Definitely 10+:
Reservoir Dogs
American Psycho
Nightmare Before Christmas

Approaching 10+:
It (1990) (if you count it as a film)
Resident Evil: Degeneration + Damnation
Nosferatu
The Avengers
Star Wars Episode 4 + 5
The Mist
Misery
Candyman
The Ring

To answer the other question, the only film remember I seeing twice in theaters was The Dark Knight Rises.

My dubious one and only answer to this question is Van Helsing, particularly because I don't even like the movie much

Was a weird time in High School. Had 3 separate groups of friends want to go see it. The third group suggested it when we were pretty drunk so that's probably the only reason I went.
