Obviously lockdowns and social distancing is done. The right will forever point to these protests as further proof of why their protests were right in the first place. Even if spikes happen in two weeks, I don't think it is going to matter at this point. I wonder if the lockdowns failed because we failed to evolve from prior attempts in prior situations or if with social media, it is just impossible to conduct and police anymore.

I don't see how you could take this viewpoint when our safety nets generosity is relatively above the cost of living throughout, also with other protections and possible stimuli. Arguing they weren't sufficient after July 25th if we removed them I could see, but right now?

That would require that, as a country, we save for such events. It will take time and a lot of tax collection to build the kind of stockpile of money and resources we need to ride out an event like this. Unfortunately, no politician will want to do this because it means everyone's standard of living goes down a bit in the short run, and the voters want things to be better right away.

I think you're missing that a lot of people want to work because it gives them a sense of purpose, of satisfaction. Many people are not happy to sit at home and collect handouts. Even if you don't call them handouts and call it "interest" or "dividends" or "royalties" people still don't feel happy because they are bored and want to do something with their time and energy. That's why many people who inherited lots of money are still unhappy.

Could Trump have handled this any worse? The guy hides in the White House, and then stages this march to a church in true Fiona Moriarty-McLaughlin-like fashion, holds a bible up backwards and upside down and goes back. Apparently using tear gas to clear away the peaceful protesters there. Oh btw, when Trump was asked his favorite Bible verse in an interview a while back, he couldn't even name one. Then he threatens military action against the protesters while not denouncing at all the police's wrongdoing these last few days.

And boy has the video evidence been damning to the police. I scrolled a bit through reddit. Video capturing police pulling a man behind a barrier so they can beat him in private (they didnt know a camera was on them), a police officer planting a baton in a tackled protesters hand so he can beat it out of him, a policeman doing the same knee-neck hold on a protester that killed George Floyd.....I gotta say, my faith in the police at large has been broken quite a bit. There are definitely more bad apples, bad policies, bad behaviors amongst our police force than what I thought. They need to be better. There needs to be drastic change.

I still vehemently oppose the lootings, especially videos I've seen of looters beating up shop owners who are trying to defend their stores. There was a really sad video of a small group of looters using 2 by 4s to beat up an older husband and wife who were trying to protect their store. At one point, they get separated and the looters are beating on the woman, and the husband is trying desperately to get to her and he cant. Those looters should be in jail for assault and battery. They are scum, and I'm not going to shy away from saying that just because there are "bigger issues at hand".

I have seen horrible videos from both sides, and we have a joke of a President who is not capable of even executing a simple PR stunt much less tackle this complex issue. It sucks being an American right now.

Reporters and protestors alike can all attest to it. Tear gas, flash bangs, and rubber bullets were fired into the protestors to disperse them. The news was running it split-screen with Trump's remarks right before his walk. You could hear the flash-bangs while they were going on. There were clergy among the protestors this was happening to!

dude was purposefully standing there, with a kid on his shoulders, as cops asked him if he wanted to go somewhere else, as people are actively throwing shit at them, meaning he's the one putting the kid at risk. if that's the dad, some real "father of the year" shit.

to his credit, the photographer did edit the description a couple times. but he knows what he posted and he knows why it's viral. and considering how viral it is, good to know the actual narrative as opposed to the lie.

also know of a different fake case - one was initially claiming a 13 year old got gunned down by cops. but he was holding a gun and was given a minute to drop the gun but refused to. also he had killed two people already. also he was 34. just a little different.

Is it viral? I've literally done nothing but work and stay on social media for 3 days and I've never seen this picture.

This definitely wasn't the first place I saw that picture from and I don't even think it was the second either.

That's honestly a pretty low number count compared to a lot of the other stuff I'm seeing go viral, but more than enough, yeah.

Also, not really interested in one photo OP that turned out to be less than it seems when there are dozens and dozens of other legit photos, stories, and videos that cause a picture like that to be taken at face value.

It's pick and choose bullshit.

I don't think anyone should be surprised there are a lot of doctored photos and fake/misleading stories on social media mixed in with the real stories. My local news station had a brief segment on a fact checking group that was going through social media posts and they brought up a few examples from both sides on fake posts/stories. Usually these kind of stories are easier to spot, but with all the craziness going on, it's pretty hard to tell the difference sometimes.
