Ah yes, my fellow comrades! Does anyone know where I can upload my address so I can donate my house and car to be looted and torched by the protesters? I mean clearly, there is nothing wrong at all with looting, vandalizing, and torching businesses and personal property in the name of this protest, and I just want to volunteer my little slice of the pie. Hell, if I'm okay with them destroying someone else's home and vehicle, I should be okay with them doing that to mine.

After all, any act of looting or vandalism is clearly the police's fault. I know this because i saw a video online of police shooting a can of tear gas into a group of protesters.This obviously means that I am allowed to break into and loot the nearest jewelry store. Those darn police. It's all their fault.

I honestly try to stay centered in political debates, but I just can't stand by and watch people condone looting and arson. George Floyd's own family is condemning this behavior and saying that it is taking the attention away from what the protests are really all about. I am just dumbfounded that people on here are excusing that behavior.

For the record, I think what happened to George Floyd was a disgrace. Those officers should be tried and found guilty. And these protests are frankly necessary as racial inequality, especially in regard to dealings with law enforcement, are in a bad place. None of this excuses looting and arson.

I think that the looters are a problem and I've been disturbed by people defending them, but the vast majority of the protestors are peaceful and responding to real injustice. Meanwhile, police have been attacking peaceful protestors and the press (often at the expense of not responding to the actual looters).

You seem to be under the impression everyone on the left is in favor of it even though all the leadership is condemning that sort of thing. The furthest I've seen anyone go is saying that they can understand why some people would feel rioting is justified; it's a huge step to get from there to your position of "the left is 100% in favor of pointless looting and destruction".

I've definitely seen some people come close to defending it (especially on Twitter, but also a bit on Facebook).

I am well aware that leadership in many forms is not in favor of the looters and I at no time claimed that 100% of the left are in favor of them. Users like UshiromiyaEva attacked me in the previous topic for condemning the looters, in which they said, in their own words, that "it is the police's fault, directly or indirectly". Another user concurred. So there was at least a couple on here that seemed to take offense to my criticism of the looting and those are the ones to whom I was addressing.

A lot of us here are against looting.

There is just like forty more important things going on that it is hard to get that worked up about it. I expect some subset of the population to be dumb and do dumb things to exploit a tragedy. I am less understanding of systematic oppression, the murder of a black man by the police (that three other officers just watched), and the subsequent strong arm reaction from the White House and police throughout the country.

People keep conflating the looters with the protestors in general, and then when a cop shoves over an old man who was just standing there or they tear gas people exercising their right to protest or punch a cameraman in the face or arrest yet another news crew, go "oh well but looting is bad too".

This doesn't surprise me at all. Every time I hear about Spokane it sounds like an absolute hellhole of white nationalists. (Matt Shea's district includes part of Spokane!)

Lots of these videos have been posted here before, but here's a compilation of crimes committed by the police.

As I commented on that video, every single one of these pieces of shit needs to not only be fired but jailed for assault like any other citizen would be. Have ANY of these people faced consequences for their actions? Do we know?

But that video was an instance de Blasio made a comment on wanting the cop's badge before the full vid was seen. All that was known before was cop pulls gun out which is pretty wtf. Full context got seen and it's a completely different reaction.

Obviously it's not a blanket statement due to potential other factors, but on paper I have a lot of respect for the officers I'm seeing openly turning in their badge after what they've been ordered to do over the last couple of days.
