What utter garbage is this site that it attracts degenerates who literally think persona could EVER measure up in the slightest bit to what Minecraft has been or achieved? The polls on this site have no meaning. I don't know if they ever did, but this is a clear sign they CERTAINLY do not now.

Both are great games, but you have to realize there's bias towards Japanese games on this website, and prejudice against games with non-traditional graphic styles such as most indies.

Minecraft is objectively one of the most influential games of all time, let alone of the last decade. It's not an exaggeration at all to say that it can be considered the harbinger of the indie revolution that has defined this decade of gaming, in that it was the first one to truly compete with AAA titles and show that indie games could have a place in mainstream gaming.

That said, for all its rampant popularity, remarkable mainstream longevity, and how much some people absolutely love it, there's no reason it has to be any given person's favourite game of the decade. There's plenty not to like about it, and for many, it's just not their cup of tea. That's fine. Being the most influential doesn't mean it's the best, nor that everyone has to like it. Just that denying its cultural impact is a fool's errand.

Unless, of course, enough of those people chose to abstain from voting in matches where they hadn't played the other game, since one really can't make a proper comparison in that case. That might shake things up a bit.

The youngest people on this site are around 23/24.

The oldest people in the generation that really loved Minecraft are about 22/23.

It would be like asking people in their 40s which series was better: Street Fighter or Pokemon? It's a generation thing more than a numbers thing.

Yeah I agree. Nothing wrong with liking Minecraft, I just meant that the main demographic for Minecraft isn't on GameFAQs. The weeb aspect definitely plays a role, too.

Full disclosure, I've played neither of those games. I'd probably like Minecraft more than P5.

Paint 3D doesn't have any actual game mechanics, to my knowledge. Arguably, neither does Minecraft's creative mode, where most of the truly impressive creations are made, though even then there are usually some manner of interactive elements whose mechanics must be considered that could be said to qualify as game mechanics (though could also be said to be comparable to dealing with the material properties of any other artistic medium and therefore not game mechanics).

Honestly, the dating sim and general "weeby-ness" is secondary to a solid rpg system, as well as fantastic art design and soundtrack. For me anyway.

Having played both, yes they are both amazing games, but Minecraft is objectively better and more influential than the whole persona series. Persona has taken elements from previous games in the genre. Minecraft created a genre.

But again, this is basically here are two games, pick one. Many of these games are losing simply because the fan base isnt here or it just had less people who cared.

GameFAQs is far divorced from what the general public actually believes.

Obviously Minecraft and its hundreds of millions of sales across multiple platforms is way more popular than Persona 5 which only sold like 3 million.

It actually is. You create things from scratch. Any creation game is basically what Minecraft is. Also again Persona 5 is the better game regardless of your justifications to convince yourself otherwise

The game that Minecraft took the most from was Dwarf Fortress a free text based game that lets you do most of the stuff you can do in Minecraft.

The creator of Minecraft himself admits this fact and will say the same damn thing. Minecraft was more appealing because it was in first person and it wasn't as hard as DF or didn't require a huge time commitment to learn like DF. Minecraft does take effort to understand everything, but DF is about 3-4 times as hard to learn.
