Apart from presentation/aesthetics, the only major improvement (imo) they can make on the original is to be able to move and shoot at the same time.

Would much prefer a cvx remake.

My thoughts are that it's fine as long as they keep the dumbness and Leon's attitude and the absurd camp. If they fuck up Leon like they have in every single utterance of his character post RE4 except 2R, we're done here. If Leon does not ask if everyone is going to bingo before the title card then I am returning the game.

i remember reading somewhere that the idea internally in capcom (and this is unverified but makes sense) would be to remake RE2 and RE3 in modern engines so 1-7 would all be easy to port to any systems they want for the next decade or so without it being a hassle or the rereleases feeling outdated

with 4 it would just be a straight up greed thing, if anything they should remake 1 again to be in line with 2 and 3. you could release 4 with some better textures on the PS5 and it would probably be fine, it does not need a 100% remake

If they're remaking RE4 it better be a Shadow of the Colossus/Crash style remake, a full graphical overhaul and that's it. ffs Re2 and Re3 remakes are using RE4 as the base in 2020, that's how relevant it still is.

RE3 was released too shortly after RE2 and was clearly developed on a "use RE2 assets and make a short game" basis to save on budget. it almost felt like a (very good) DLC for RE2.

this one seems like its being given the proper care it needs.

With a 2022 date were looking at 2 years, and it's also a different team lead by the former Platinum CEO, soooooo I'd hope.

hopefully they can retain the campiness of Leon. Even with how much more series RE2 and RE3 Remakes were compared to the originals, Leon was still a bit of a dork.

and RE4 Leon is just that same dork with government training

the only reason I have hope they won't screw it up is because there is no Japanese dub of RE4. It was already in english when it originally came out so that's the only thing to go by

I consider 4 the best game ever made, and is also my favorite game of all time.

I enjoyed the remake of 1 & 2(I think both are better than the originals), but I don't hold the originals to as high of a regard as 4. I have yet to play the remake of 3(waiting on a price drop). I'll be cautiously optimistic that it will do 4 justice.

RE3 and RE2 remakes were originally going to be released at the same time. RE3 was only delayed a year because it wasn't going to be ready by 2019.

I said from when RE2 was announced they should've combined 2 and 3 together into one game. Imagine how good it would've been to choose how you wanted the campaigns to play out. Do you go RE2>RE3 or do you play it how the timeline was originally and go RE3>RE2>RE3.

Definitely disappointed that they're not doing Code Veronica instead, but oh well. This is almost certainly going to be a good game but (as we've discussed in a thread very recently) these are some insanely huge shoes to fill. RE4 basically isn't dated at all so this game is going to have to be a legit 11/10 for people to see it as anything other than disappointing by comparison.

all right i don't know the term or whatever but i really hate the "realistic" character models Capcom keeps using (DMC5, RE, etc.) definitely don't want to see RE4 with that shit

Remaking CVX was so obviously a better call.

Remaking RE4 is totally unnecessary. You cannot improve on perfection. I'm still gonna buy it, but it'll be the first time ever playing a remake where I know going in that it has absolutely no chance of surpassing the original. With previous remakes there was always some debate, but I don't think there is here.

I disagree with this actually. RE4's shooting mechanics are slow-paced and tactical, and a lot of that would be lost if you can move at the same time as shooting.

well they did balance that out in RE2 remake by making your aim focus and the shots do more damage if you stand still for a while before shooting.

i think that system might work well for RE4 too

I weirdly really like the feeling of not being able to move and shoot in 4. Planting myself and deliberately aiming with my pistol to headshot dudes coming at me feels good.

and moving and shooting doesnt seem so important when youre playing a game where the enemies (almost all) dont have guns

Didn't Capcom just pass out this survey like a week ago (do you want more remakes or a new entry)? The fuck'd they do that for if they already had their minds made up? I'm good with remakes for a while, doubly so if the one they're going with is 4.

Not a knock against 4--just the opposite. There are other entries in the series that would benefit much more from one than RE4. CV would be cool, but I really like the idea of remaking Survivor. Survivor's barely a game to begin with--a proper remake would let them flesh out that whole event and its characters so much more, and there's basically no room to go but up. Unlike 4, the odds of pissing off Survivor's fans are practically nonexistent--because Survivor's fans are practically nonexistent.
