legendarylemur 05/26/19 11:55:49 PM #402:	I liked Greed Island quite a bit. It's the first arc that shows just how far a nen usage can go, that they can basically build what was a glorified AR game. And ultimately, it's the kids and Bisky that's able to successfully go through Greed Island because they actually tried to have fun with it, whereas everybody else around them were doing it for the money. Also it's necessary to progress Gon and Killua's growing friendship, because Killua in general is always written to be a Sasuke-type lampshade character who's edgy due to all he's seen and experienced but is basically given hope by the sheer existence of the unassuming Gon. You basically couldn't cement their friendship in arcs like Chimera Ant where Gon and Killua are more or less spending most of their time in combat. It's also an early introduction to Killua's actual character, since we are never lead to think otherwise, but from later what we see of his interaction with Alluka, he's actually always been a softie turned edgy by his crazy family. But I guess shounen usually cares less about fleshing out characters outside of battles. It's a breath of fresh air to see an arc that was just laid-back and minor in scale, where we actually see characters doing stuff mostly out of combat for an entire arc. Something tells me the last fight of the arc was done pretty begrudgingly because the publishers probably had a problem with ending an arc with no boss battle. Tbh I personally through the Hunter Exam arc in general was fairly boring, much like how I found most of the first parts of Yu Yu Hakusho boring. Every other arc is excellent in their own way though. It kinda goes from classic shounen to what is basically an isekai arc to ultra violent high stakes shounen to political intrigue. As shounens go, it's the only that actually tries to do interesting things. Like... every single card they created for that game can work in the real world based on the rules and how the dub explained things.
