I finished an anime called Barakamon just now. It was really touching and heartwarming, with some pretty good comedy going on as well. If you like slice of life type of stuff, it's definitely worth a go.

And... the next Monster Hunter World novel is a children's novel by the same author as Nyanta Life. Which is cool and all, but this implies that the Nyanta Life won't be getting a Glavenus volume.

It's coming out in December, but it'll probably be a long time until I get to read it since it probably won't be released digitally

Yeah. Pretty much anything Funi had and then shared is going back. But, the dubs that Crunchy worked with are coming to them. And they were involved in a lot it looks like. So they're coming out of this pretty good and getting a lot of dubs.

They still have their own FunimationNow streaming service, and they'll start licensing their own anime to simulcast and simuldub each season. It's also very likely that Funimation will be the main simulcasting service for Aniplex shows going forward, since both of them are now owned by Sony. The fact that Funimation is simulcasting SAO Alicization and Bunny Girl Senpai subbed (despite those series not getting simuldubs) hints that they and Aniplex are already working together.

In other words, it's Crunchyroll and Sentai vs. Funimation and Aniplex... in a tag team match!

RIP crunchyroll is an extreme exaggeration. They definitely didn't come out ahead though.
Losing Overlord, Steins;Gate, and Assassination Classroom for dubs of even decent shows like Re:Zero, Classroom of the Elite, and others is a definite loss. Most people do not go to or wish for dubs on Crunchy, so getting a bunch of dubs(especially of mediocre shows/dubs), is not really all that great. Quality>Quantity here for sure.

They aren't exactly Netflix for one thing, since Netflix has their own shows on top of a pretty big lineup already. And their players will always still suck and their website format not nearly as inviting as the illegal counterparts that are more objective. Too much goddamn fluff on their site that nobody cares about but they think people do

Fair enough, I get what you guys are saying. For sub-only watchers (which you guys make it seem like the majority of CR's subscribers are) they definitely lost more than they gained unless they can get a good amount of new stuff through HiDive.

I mostly see it called a low/mid-tier Precure series, often referred to as "Heartcatch lite" because it tried doing a lot of the same things that Heartcatch did: similar story, similar style of fights, and similar subversion of the trend of the blue Precure usually being the shy/quiet/smart one. Just like Erika in Heartcatch, Happiness Charge's blue cure, Hime, has the usual genki dork traits of a pink cure... except exaggerated to nearly Umaru-like levels of adorable shitlord. She and Erika are definitely "love them or hate them" characters.





As that meme I posted mentioned, the fights are surprisingly brutal, and Megumi isn't afraid to beat a motherfucker with another motherfucker if necessary.





Happiness Charge was also unique in that it was the first Precure series to toy with the idea of other Precure existing in the world besides the main cast. There are various "international" Precure that show up and help out on rare occasions, which gives it a unique charm. However, the main flaws of this series are the lackluster art/animation (including more QUALITY moments) compared to other Precure series and the fact that it tried too hard to be too much like Heartcatch... but came up short. To sum it up: it you ever finish Heartcatch and find that you really like that series or its style of fights, then you'll probably like Happiness Charge as well because it's more of the same.

I'm definitely a big fan of original audio over dubs but I gotta say, the point of a dub is, well, being dubbed. It's just plain bizarre to have a segment in the middle of your show where the characters suddenly start talking in a completely different language with completely different voices

I watch dubs because I prefer things in English. I don't speak Japanese, so while it sounds like it has flow, everything else is lost on me. The subs have no rhythm or rhyme either. Lyrics and wordplay are a HUGE part of rap, so keeping it in Japanese, I lose a lot there. Then we have the issue of, suddenly everything is in Japanese and everyone suddenly has a different voice. This is jarring as fuck, and I hate it everytime a dub does it. And you can't immediately assume it'll be bad. That's bullshit.

So yes. I would absolutely want them to rewrite the Rap Battle in English.

I am legit curious.

If I'm watching a show in English, where the character dialogue is in English, I want all of the character dialogue to be in English. I can understand leaving insert songs that play in the background in Japanese. But scenes where the characters themselves are the ones singing, like concert scenes, I prefer them to be dubbed along with the normal dialogue. I'm not asking for perfection like a real singer, but at least put in the effort. The best example I have in recent memory is right here, and the VA did a fantastic job at it:

And before you ask: no, I will not just switch to watching the entire show subbed. The amount of time I have to watch non-dubbed anime is very limited (due to a life situation that I'd rather not explain right now since I'm about to go to bed, maybe tomorrow if you really want to know) so this means that anime without a watchable dub have much lower priority to me. After this development, Zombie Land Saga is now so far back on my priority list that I'll likely never watch it.

Music is universal. I listen to a good number of musics in languages I don't understand. Which is also, another factor entirely. This isn't like a big song by some actual rapper being used in a show. It's a couple of characters doing a fun scene, jumping between languages like this is jarring as fuck. And, again, directly translating the lyrics from Japanese to English like that, in rap especially, you lose the word play and rhyme. So while the gist of the scene comes across, you've lost an important part of the rap.
