Board 8 > When has a demo ever convinced you to buy the game?

I was thinking about it, and with a total of one exception, every single demo has convinced me to NOT buy the game I demoed.

The one exception is Etrian Odyssey IV, I spent 5 hours and 43 minutes in the demo.

I played Spyro on a demo machine way back when in store demos were the thing in which you played demos on.

That was probably the last one.

Undertale, Monster Hunter 3 (had never played a MH game before), Octopath Traveler.

I also downloaded a demo for Sushi Striker, which I basically had no interest in whatsoever, and it came reeeeeally close to making me buy it, but I didn't.

Sushi Striker. I had zero interest in it until I tried the demo and realized what the game was actually like.

And if I ever end up buying The Alliance Alive, it'll be because the demo showed me how different it is from The Legend of Legacy.

I don't really have much experience with demos outside the 3DS/Switch.

I've been playing Blood Gulch only for years on PC with my brother before some day I finally bought Halo:CE because I've had such a good time with it

but its a weird example because I played the demo on a PS1 disc from a magazine and I never played it til like, 15 years later on PS3's PSN

but It made an impression on me and I always wanted to play the full game, then PSN gave me the opportunity

I had one that had trailers to all of the PS1 final fantasy titles, including Tactics, and a playable Demo to VIII, AND the intro to Chrono Cross. I wish I still had it

that demo made be buy FFT and Chrono Cross.

FFT is a weird example because I originally bought that game for my brother, then we played it together and I saw how fucking amazing it was, then eventually got my own copy

Really liked the Parappa the Rapper demo. Ultimately it only made me rent the game though cause I beat it off a single rental.

I used to download a ton of demos for the 360 due to the ease of doing so. I'm sure that I bought several full versions in the end because of that.

I'd say about 20% of the time the demo serves as a hype machine for a game i was going to buy regardless, 50% of the time convinces me to get the game i was unsure on, and 30% of the time pushes me away from the game.

Project X Zone's demo convinced me to play the game, which was a mistake since I disliked that game and didn't even finish it. The demo in no way prepared me for how slow and bogged down the gameplay gets later on.

Pretty sure that's the last time I even bothered with a demo. If I'm on the fence about a game I find word of mouth / discussions with those who've sunk real hours into the game far more useful.
