If this is to be believed, I need to open 1 Ungoro and 3 Classic packs for guaranteed legendaries.

Edit: I just bought one Ungoro pack, and it has a legendary in it so it looks like everyone is getting the initial 10 card pity timers even if you're not completely new to the set.

time for beast deck that is just okay but is super fun

I got run over by a Jungle Giants deck today. I suspect he had a god draw, because everything he played was basically ideal, but he finished the quest on 6 via Menagerie Warden, had a board and plenty of hand, and the means to draw into the expensive stuff in his deck.

Menagerie Warden on Tyrantus is disgusting, btw.

Took me 9 Ungoro, 5 classic but after 11 Gadgetzan still no legendary

I just opened an Un'Goro pack and did not get a legendary.

just had my first few games of the new season. first opponent basically did nothing and got steamrolled. second opponent appeared to be some kind of prince malchezar big druid???? the stuff you see at rank 22. anyway he put down curator on turn 6 after I face never traded him to 7 health and I proceeded to get that delicious 10 damage burst on turn 7 with my alley cat + kill command + kill command I had been wisely holding back all game.

game 3: shaman conceded to me on turn 5. it's like a dream come true. and this is even after he landed a pivotal Hex on the scavenging hyena right away.

game 4: mage who plays mana wyrm on turn 1, I draw like crap, but he feels the need to answer my sub-par minions with spells to get rid of them. thankfully I was rewarded for my better play here by finally drawing eaglehorn bow by turn 3 and retook the board. my hyena comes down on a game changing turn 6 and immediately buffs to 9/5. he had to use almost everything in his hand to stop it. and I still had highmane and other stuff in my hand for him to deal with after. in true hearthstone fashion, he's still gifted every spell he needs along the way by babbling book and primordial glyphs. thankfully I still won. definitely would have felt bad to lose a game like that where I know I played a lot better, and scary to see just how close it was and how I very easily still could have lost.

anyway got my shieldbearer's locker so I'm probably done with constructed for this month.

Well it worked, I spent 400 gold. Got two legendaries out of it though. Not that they were ones I wanted, or ones that I'll probably ever play, but there's very few legendaries I'd actually want to open at this point. Deathwing and Black Knight are probably it for the classic set, and that's only if I don't already have Black Knight. Honestly don't remember.

I started out at rank 22 as well this time, and I had a few of those games before the regular ones started.

First game was against Quest Hunter who was actually running Starving Buzzard in his deck. Not discovered or Macaw'd.

Then I played Rogue who coined Deadly Poison on turn 2 and went face twice with it.

Next I played an aggro Warrior who didn't seem to be running any pirates.

For my first competitive match, I fully embraced my Priestness against a Jade Shaman. I had perfectly timed board clears every time he tried to make a push, and after killing his White Eyes I played Operative to steal the 10/10. Then the next turn I played another Operative and stole another 10/10. I had two more in my hand but he conceded before I could play them or either of the 10/10s.

And my final game of the day, because I finished my quest, I continued to embrace my Priestness. I was against a golden hero all gold cards Murloc Paladin. I stole two Tirions, a Rag and a Tarim from him. I even got to play the first Tirion before he condeded.

My luck is going to be absolute garbage the next time I play...

As arena warrior, stabilizing against a hunter at 3 health and taking him from 30 to 0. Gotta love it.

Highlights of the day for me:
Ran into an arena opponent who had drafted Light ragnaros AND ysharrj. Absurd.
Decided to run eater of secrets in my mage deck after running into 3 quest mages in a row. It does good work.

In arena I drafted a deck with Stewart x2, Moroes, Imp Master, lots of other things with 1 hp. I mean when it went off it was like the best thing ever. Ended up going 7 wins. Lost at 7 to a fledgling.

Regarding the new legendary for every 10 cards feature (bug!?), here's my results.

Classic - found a new Legendary in the 4th pack I opened today
Un'Goro - found a new Legendary in the 7th pack I opened today

Was such a success I decided to try the other pack types as well tonight, here's the message I sent my friends regarding that result.

Ehhhh I had some spare gold sitting around so decided to do 10 of all the older packs and track the results. You know, for science. Here's what I unpacked:

Mean Streets of Gadgetzan - 1 legendary (5th pack opened), 2 golden commons, 1 golden rare, 5 epics
Whispers of the Old Gods - 1 legendary (10th pack opened), 2 golden commons, 2 golden rares, 2 epics
The Grand Tournament - 1 legendary (6th pack opened), 3 golden commons, 1 golden rare, 5 epics (1 of them golden)
Goblins vs Gnomes - 1 legendary (5th pack opened), 3 golden commons, 1 golden rare, 5 epics (1 of them golden)

I haven't run the numbers, but those results strike me as extremely high right across the board.

...alright, you got me- I'm Ngamer so OF COURSE I just went and ran the numbers.

If you just disenchant everything, the average value of a pack is 98.25 dust. Always has been dating back to day 1 of Hearthstone and always will be (or so we thought). The average value of the 40 packs from above was 157 dust. Now obviously that's not too surprising- used to be you'd only find a Legendary roughly once per 18 packs, so getting four of them locked down within only 40 packs was going to provide a decent boost.

The strange part is, even if you removed all 4 legends from the above (worth 400 dust a piece) and replaced them with just the usual Rares who would have been there in their place (worth just 20 per)... the above set would STILL have been worth an average of 119 dust per pack.

That's literally insane; what's going on here!

There's been some posts going around the internet saying how people have been getting more rares, epics, and golden cards as well.

My small sample size seemed to confirm that as well, but not sure if it's actually a change or not.

I'm still bitter I bought 13 Gadgetzan packs last night and got no legendary! Did get legendaries from classics and Ungoro albeit terrible ones (Cenarius and PLD quest)

That would suggest that Blizzard doesn't properly playtest their cards and that can't possibly be true.

Shadow reflection leaves your hand at the end of your turn, so it only works on 5 mana cards or less.


Still, lots of combo potential, including Arcane Giants, Edwin Van Cleef, Double Pack if you have a nearly empty hand. Also stolen cards from Hallucination/Shaku can create some crazy combos.

If this sees play expect you know who to complain about it

Ugh I have so much rust to shake off. I was playing mage against some warrior deck that was based on spells and arcane giants. He was out of cards and had 2 arcane giants on the field, and I elected to blizzard them rather than frost nova them and take them down one at a time. Which meant he could sudden genesis/blood warriors them for the win. I completely forgot the latter card existed, and didn't know the former was a thing. Guess I have a lot to learn about the past few sets.

I just played a Hunter's Mark on a Dire Wolph Alpha thinking I was playing Arcane Shot. I conceded out of shame even though it was only turn 2.

I was right, I used up all of my luck yesterday. Lost the first two brawls to opponents who both had double Rag. Then to a Priest who had two Mindgames, both of which got King Krush. Currently 0-6, I just want my pack.

Drafted an arena rogue. First match I was against a mage and ended up winning even after only sending 2-3 on both turns 6 and 7 due to a spotty Internet connection.

Shout out to everyone who's felt like they had a game won because the opponent was absent then ended up losing.

Is there any decent sub for medivh's valet in a freeze mage deck? Would dirty rat be viable, I read that it used to be a big thing when quest rogue was around, i dunno how long ago that was though.

If it's a flavor fail, blame WoW designers instead of Hearthstone.

But on that note, there are plenty of class cards where the connection is somewhat arbitrary. The first one I remember thinking "Wait, what?" was Flame Leviathan being a mage card. Not that it necessarily fits with ANY particular class, but I just didn't see the immediate connection. Such is the case with a number of cards.

extra burn, even conditional, is kind of a big deal. SI:7 has always been a great card in rogue arena because of this. also thinking of quickshot reminds me just how oppressive hunter used to be, and that didn't even come with the 2/3 body. it was just 3 damage and 3 more damage (for a total 6 burst) that hunters could use to close out the late game. this was during the period where it felt like hunters were playing single player and nothing you did mattered -- you either won or lost against them. and that was just from an extra 6 damage in the deck. with the loss of quickshot hunter has not only become less oppressive but had to shift into a zoo-style minion based deck or midrange variants which also rely on controlling the board with minions. problem is I don't think Mage has the tools to do that. the extra 6 damage is probably vital in a lot of match ups, although from what I've seen the medivh's valet is not used to finish the game as frequently as something like a double quickshot. more over it's used like SI:7 to help clean up the enemy board and keep you alive. if you can think of another card that fulfills those requirements it would be a good replacement, but I couldn't think of any.

Flavor fail in WoW then. Lili in MtG is a necromancer that specializes in death magic and curses. She's as Warlock as you can get.
