I'm torn on the lack of weapons, but I don't think I want jade in this deck, and I'd rather have better odds of topdecking critters to evolve. Ooze might be overkill on weapon hate? *shrug* This deck wouldn't mind devolves, either, given that steeds are still going to be in the meta.

One of the Blizz devs hinted over at reddit that a card they're revealing on wednesday will put a hurt on either jades in general or maybe just jade idol.

This game really needs a card like Magic's Nevermore. It's a super specific sideboard tech enchantment that just says "name a card, it can't be played".

I would name Ice Block or Alexstraza every game on general principle, even against non-mages.

I really think this game would be less frustrating if we had a side board. Some way to let decks that have an opposing deck they're really weak against, a fighting chance.

Yeah, but then you would need to switch Ranked matches to Bo3, which goes against the "pick up, play, and go back to work" modularity that makes HS such a popular mobile game.

Having 4 tourney-ready decks isn't too hard, really. I am f2p and I can manage a decently competitive deck in any class but Priest and Warlock, and in Warlock's case that's not actually my fault >_>

But I feel like this + 2x Kindly Grandmother is an amazing turn 5 play. Deathrattle Hunter is another fun-but-not-quite-good-enough deck; it might make it to the big leagues!

8 mana Mage card: put one of each secret from your deck into play.

First off, stealth nerf to every existing Mage archetype (except maybe Secret Mage) is sadness. Second, despite what the Polygon people said in their reveal video, you can't play it with both Mirror Entity and Potion of Polymorph, since you can't control the order in which the effects go off. Assuming Paladin stays good, though, Spellbender would be a great include in the hypothetical deck that runs this card. Granted, that deck probably doesn't actually exist because this is such a nonbo with Arcanologist, and no one's cutting Arcanologist for this.

Granted maybe there's a world where I play this as essentially an 8-mana Draw 4-5 cards that don't go into your hand in Quest Mage...

Outside of arena Warrior has always had good to great decks to play. To my recollection, at no point in the history of Hearthstone has Warrior ever been bad.

Wow, this thread got away from me since yesterday.

I don't hate Ice Block as much as ulti, but I do agree that it's a card that could use some attention. Yes, it gives mage an identity in some fashion, but I suspect it's also limiting in terms of what they can give mage for survivability elsewhere. As it is, there are too many games where it's a struggle just to get your opponent to 1 using the reach in your hand. When mage has the ability to just concede their well-being entirely for two turns in favor of being completely aggressive because they know they're invincible, it turns what ought to be a 50/50 match-up into at least 40/60. The only reason I don't give it more credit than that is because the mage still had to run the ice block (rather than some other card) and had to spend the 3 mana on it. Perhaps another burn spell for 3, a la Forgotten Torch, would have won the game for them anyway.

But being able to set up Ice Block > Pop > Alexstrasza > Pop > NUKENUKENUKE and win...well, that's a little ridiculous. The entire rest of their deck can be set up to create that eventuality, and the only things that can stop it are healing, swift beatdowns, or being a mage yourself. Or running Eater of Secrets, I guess, but I run into too many non-secret classes to justify that tech.

Now, I don't hate Ice Block enough to not do this myself. I was playing freeze mage yesterday. But seeing it from both sides, it's still a little terrible to have a gameplan that consists of do nothing, do nothing, do nothing, deflect, do nothing, lock out the board, lock out the board again, and then execute a two-turn kill the opponent can't really do anything about.

It's just better than molten reflection, since it combos better with giants (alternate wincons, anyone?), and it ups the odds of getting high-impact spells off random effects by a lot; Molten Reflection is often one of the best things you can choose off of a glyph, for instance, and you've essentially doubled the odds of getting that.

I mean, it has a place as a check to Board control centric Aggro decks like Zoo, Token Druid, Token Shaman etc that would probably run the meta if it wasn't there

There's ways to beat Freeze though for each class and tech outside of eater. You basically want them to be reacting to your big minions and if you rat out Alex, pop ice block before Alex, or can keep up with their draw you are in good shape
