No, Sandor has moved far beyond Cleganebowl and he was never just about that.

Doesn't mean it won't be fucking incredible though. I can't think of a single thing I'm more hyped for than Cleganebowl if it happens.

I never said he was JUST about that. His growth as a character from the beginning until now makes him even more suited than he ever was to take his brother down once and for all. Sandor, since his flight from the Blackwater, has basically been about begrudgingly redeeming himself.

Once he decides to slay the mountain it will be full on acceptance of his redemption. And it'll be perfect. He needs it.

We need it.

There is literally no chance Sandor wins that fight. Nor should he.

I think in the books, Jaime ranks the Cleganes as two of the only people in Westeros he wouldn't voluntarily fight.

It will be one of the most satisfying things we get to see in the show. All the pain of watching Oberyn fail will be made worth it.

I liked how Jon left Winterfell as soon as Arya found out that's where he was.

Also Jon could receive ravens all the way from Oldtown and Dragonstone, but couldn't get one from the Wall in the same timeframe telling him "oh hey you're brother's alive, surprise". That's not a real complaint, just something I thought was odd.

I really hate that they merged Euron into Victarion. It really makes him way less cool if he's just the kind of brute that Victarion is.

Also, @Extha no way VictariEuron can take Obara on land tho. He had the home deck advantage. No wonder Whipwick died though, what a dumb weapon to use on a pirate ship.

Also can't believe they wasted that much time on the Grey WormxMissandei scene. Like, that scene only needed to exist so we could Nathalie Emmanuel booty and boobies. Once those were there, scene could've been over. What a useless romance.

Arya x Nymeria was pretty sad.

Hyped for JonxDany.

Where the hell is Bran! How is he not at Winterfell yet. I know the show is playing with timelines but come on, let's have another Stark reunion!

Also, it wouldn't surprise me if "good gurl bad posay" Sand Snake is an actual Snake, ie working for Cersei/Euron. It would fit with her book character and maybe she did it to keep her mother alive or something. It would also explain how Euron knew to attack the ships and what ship to attack. I mean, she might've been kept alive as a fucktoy but it would explain why she's the only Sand Snake to survive.

Because as crazy as VictariEuron is, I would assume he has enough Euron in him to not have been insane enough to attack Dragonstone where there are 3 dragons.

Nah, I doubt it. Would be cool, but too unlike D&D, I think. Daario really is as bland as he's been written. The most we'll get from that guy is a sudden "save the day" scene before the end, if that.

And lol at people getting "salty" over Greyjoy ownage.

I think one thing that bugged me about the Euron fight was at one point (early on I think, before he even engaged the Sand Snakes) it looked like (to me) that he took an arrow to the neck.

and i'm sorry but there's no recovering from that, you don't just rip it out and fight through a melee

I'm assuming it had to be something else (I mean, would anyone even be using arrows?) because otherwise forget plot armor

That's why I said early on. I know later on there's a part where it very much has to be a Sand Snake whip, but I'm pretty sure there's a shot earlier on. Unless it was incidental or something and they didn't fight until a bit later.

I don't get how they didn't see Eurons fleet until he was right on top of them. But I guess Yara and crew were doomed the moment they left the iron islands anyways. When your entire country cares more about raping and killing for no reason than food and family, you're screwed.

They probably should've mentioned that bit to Tyrion when they were coming up with this plan... All it would've taken was a single dragon as escort. But I guess they need a way to make Cersei actually a viable villain even though she has practically nothing.

I do like the foreshadowing of Olenna telling Dany to burn everything down, which she will definitely do now that the fleet is gone.

I'm disappointed that Varys didn't point out that he tipped off Jorah. But I'm really happy that that conversation happened. Same deal Tyrion outing Ellaria as a child-poisoner (really, Dany allowing a child-poisoner on her team is... suspect). Lots of good airing of grievances there.

I actually believe him here. He might be lying about the whole "not scheme" bit he promised to, but I take his motives at face value here.

Only if Daenerys commits to "burn King's Landing/Queen of the Ashes" I could see Varys seeing Jon as the better option.

It's possible Daenerys extracting that promise from him will be paid off by him scheming for Jon but I'd give it better-than-even odds it was just supposed to be a scene where we're supposed to think Daenerys is being wise for seeing Varys's nature and getting him to tell her about mistakes she makes. (the real test will be when/if he does and how she reacts)

There's no chance Varys isn't telling the truth. He was written differently after about midway into the third season. From the moment he had that scene with Shae in 3x10 urging her to leave Westeros because he believed in Tyrion's potential and she was a complication, he's been consistently illustrated as a Man of the People, For the People. It's somewhat at-odds with the tone of certain earlier-series scenes, and aye, sure, he still bears his fangs on occasion (see: his sixth-season scene with Vala). It is absolutely at-odds with his book depiction. But it's who he is.

Haha, yeah, true. I guess it isn't at-odds in essence with his probable book goals. More... uh... wildly different levels of Machiavellian approach. Book Varys seems to believe in whatever it takes to achieve an actionable peace; whoever's left in the aftermath will have a better life for it.

In fairness, I don't really mind the more kindhearted Varys of the show. But he does seem a little toothless now. Book-Varys is shrouded in mystery and menace.

... largely because we will almost certainly never find out more about him. TWOW is confirmed not out in 2017, and GRRM hinted that it wouldn't be out in 2018, either. LOL.

The thing is I don't believe Book!Varys, I think he's at best buying into his own lies about it. At worst, it plays into some fan theories about his motives.

But that's the book.

With only 11-ish episodes left and the plots they still have to resolve I don't know if they really want to waste time with "Varys was playing a con game all along!" Though admittedly I guess it wouldn't take too much time to do that. Do it well, on the other hand? Less sure about that.
