Huh, I'm actually a bit surprised at the so-far universal positive impressions of this episode! I thought it was a massive drop in quality from Episode 1 and highlighed most of the problems with the show.

The whole Grey Worm/Missandei plot taking up all that time. The return of Dorne. The Winterfell/Jon/Sansa/Littlefinger stuff being awkward as hell. And I thought the battle at the end was just way over the top. I mean wtf did Euron come out of the WWE?

Arya/Hot Pie was probably the highlight. ...Probably followed by Arya/Nymeria. Really Arya was MVP by virtue of being the only one to show up. (well maybe qyburn did too)

This episode was LEAGUES better than the first. Episode 1 was just re-establishing everyone's place and what they're doing. This episode fast forwarded the plot and got a fuckton of awesome stuff in too.

Explain? I liked it. And I don't think the relatively brief presence of literally anyone from Dorne is this automatic terrible thing. The Sand Snakes, sure, but they died brutally so yay and I never had a big problem with Ellaria. And it services the story well.

Also I don't really like how quickly everyone is travelling and communicating but I guess it's just needed at this point. And it does mean things move a lot faster.

It felt like a rehash of the Jon/Sansa argument before that they talked over.

And honestly seeing the lords openly side with Sansa just felt weird and out of character for them. Jon's "I never wanted this" bit, while true, comes off as weak to me. And finally Sansa is a dummy for not realizing that Jon would be leaving her in charge while he's gone.

It probably all plays a bit better if we didn't literally have the "Sansa contradicts Jon while he's holding court and then they talk it out afterwards" scene last episode.

The Littlefinger stuff is just... wtf is Littlefinger even doing? how dumb is he. i know he's a scrub here compared to his book version but man he just lowered the bar there by going to the stark crypt to say any of that to jon.

Also mileage varies on Missandei/Grey Worm because while they are minor characters who might not warrant that much time when there's a lot of plot to be done, I do like both of them and find the relationship kind of sweet.

I get the complaint, I was just fine with it. I don't see it as my job to worry about the time certain plot elements take - I'll trust that the writers, who have almost consistently entertained/satisfied me for a while now, think they could afford to indulge this one minor side story. If anything I like the thoroughness - they went out of their way to resolve that occasionally-smouldering romance and that's probably the last time we see the two of them together, if I had to guess

tbh, littlefinger is finding out that the north plays the game of thrones very, very differently from the south

one of the things that protected littlefinger in king's landing was that everyone was so busy scheming against the lords that they forgot about the little dude

the north has so many fewer schemes overall that it's jarring when one dude tips his hand like that

My personal predictions for the rest of this season. Spoilers obviously in case I'm right about anything

- Jon meets with Dany, she says she'll give him the obsidian if he bows the knee, he agrees
- Jon tries to convince Dany about the White Walkers but she says "sorry I'm busy with Cersei"
- Jon sees Melisandre, who says some cryptic nonsense about the Lord of Light, and he warns Dany about her. Dany possibly learns about resurrecting the dead and is intrigued
- Jorah disappears from the Maester area after being cured and gets caught up in some adventure
- Sam is found out for having helped Jorah and is kicked out, where he's found by his father, forcing him to somehow accidentally kill his own father
- Arya gets back to Winterfell and reunites with Sansa
- Littlefinger does something to annoy Sansa, probably telling Robin to propose to Arya or something weird like that
- Theon gets back to Dany where he meets Jon, who's all "I'd kill you but now we're technically allies"
- Cersei reluctantly agrees to marry Euron but tells Jaime she plans to betray him eventually
- Dorne pulls out of Dany's alliance
- Dany becomes more desperate after losing Yara and Dorne and has to start being more brutal, so she brings in her dragons, one of which Cersei kills with the fancy ballista (I expected something more interesting from Qyburn, like poison gas or something)
- At some point she lets the Dothraki do something, forcing more people to ally with Cersei
- Bran shows back up in Winterfell, he tells Jon that he's not really Ned's son
- Two of the following die: Grey Worm, Missandrei, Old Tyrell Lady, Varys. If it's Old Tyrell Lady, she divulges before she dies that she kills Joffrey
- Two of the following die: Bran's female friend, that guy who was reluctant to ally with Jon against Ramsay, Lyanna Mormont (highly unlikely), Sansa or Arya (highly unlikely), Brienne, Podrick
- Sansa becomes more alienated from Jon, causing friction in the North
- The Hound and the other Lord of Light guys go to the Wall, see the White Walkers, and the Hound finally realizes that he can do some good in the world and overcomes his fear of fire. Possibly he meets up with Arya and gruffly ignores her
- Jon is like "Might as well warn King's Landing about the White Walkers even though it'll do nothing" and sends word, and is believed only by Qyburn and possibly Jaime. Even if Cersei is convinced she's crazy enough to do nothing
- Littlefinger does some shenanigans, so Sansa kills him/has Brienne kill him in a really anticlimactic way that is totally unbefitting of a master manipulator being killed
- The White Walkers come over the Wall and march on Winterfell, killing either the redheaded Wildling or Jon's friend on the Wall, probably the latter because there are no other important Wildlings left
- If Dany tries to take King's Landing for real, Cersei pulls a repeat of Aegon Targaryen and goes off the deep end, and Jaime kills her to stop her from destroying the city with some crazy Qyburn invention, otherwise she makes it to next season
- If Dany doesn't try to take King's Landing for real, she goes to aid Winterfell at the last moment, because the writers love climactic rescues too much for their own good
- Season ends with Genndy circumnavigating the world and reaching the opposite side of Westeros

Am I the only person on B8 that likes the Sand Snakes? I enjoyed their interactions with Bronn and Jaime and loved their feisty attitudes. I was sad to see them get completely destroyed.

Missandei/Grey Worm are adorable. I was happy for them.

Euron is off the fucking charts and I hope he amps up the crazy even more.

Reek is the worst.

I dunno why Gregor would end up so far north. Maybe if #TeamCersei gets thrashed before the final episodes and he just... wanders up there as a survivor and then gets turned into a wight? Er, more so than he already is? I dunno, I guess Sandor could survive the season, wind up further south in Season 8 somehow, and stuff. It just... the logistics seem off for it at this point.
