One other thing--we have a pastebin with all of the past normal-format guessing games in it (assuming NFUN has updated it). Typically you try and pick songs that haven't appeared yet on the pastebin, though some lists have had a couple accidental repeats and people haven't cared much.

We've declared survival lists (AKA the format we played last night) to be a "separate canon" due to the large number of songs for those, meaning that those lists just use whatever songs they want without concern for repeats, and also a song appearing in a survival list can still be used for a normal list without being considered a repeat.

Well we'll probably get to them unless you submitted 5 really impossible songs that will all appear at the end of the list. We usually make it around 85-90% of the way through survival lists and even if this one is a lot harder it's still likely we make it through half of the songs or so.

Edit: In fairness I think we technically lost on like song #7 or something one time but uh let's just forget that ever happened, shall we?

Color me unsurprised.

Even on top of the fact that we probably picked a hard selection of songs overall, there's also the fact that for any given song we lose whichever user is best positioned to know that song, since they are probably the one that picked it. So this is already somewhat harder than a normal survival list even if the actual difficulty of the songs themselves were the same.

Bleh, have been super busy lately so I've been behind on listening to stuff in this thread. Anyway comments on the last 8 songs which I have things to say about I guess lol. (I missed more than that but I can only listen to so much in a row)

Oh wow uh...I actually REALLY like Upstairs. Really cool atmospheric track. I like how there's this vague sense of tension and mystery that hangs throughout the song. I agree it doesn't take a particularly active role but I don't think it needs to for what it's going for (sort of a running theme with my comments here actually...). I also like the variety of different instruments the song uses.

Aquaria has always had nice music imo. I'm not as familiar with the OST as I probably should be, but it's got a lot of these really calming and uplifting atmospheric tracks like this one that I really like. Should probably sit down and just listen to all of it. (This would have done a lot better on my list, probably)

I really like End of Regret (obviously), but I can kind of see where you're coming from. There's a reason I've never tried to nominate this song for VGMC. (Well at least I don't think I have anyway--if I did it was with an attitude of "screw this I don't care what anyone else thinks I'm just nomming what I like") But yeah it really for me evokes that emotion of standing up in the face of overwhelming sorrow, which is basically what the second half of the VN is about. I think one thing about it also is that for me specifically I don't mind VN songs being repetitive so much. As long as they're able to sit there in the background and make me feel a certain feeling than that's what they're really supposed to do, and if they're good at that than I'm going to like them a lot.

Beatdown! is a fun song. Possibly a bit too frantic to enter into my top tier but I do still get some nice positive vibes from it.

Don't have anything really specific to say but also Grounseed is pretty cool.

I'm surprised Profusion didn't go out 40-50 places ago, but I guess seeing as it hasn't gone out yet maybe I should predict something like White Witch Gueld to go out next instead. I don't really know, but it's sort of similar to the last set of songs you posted imo.

Orchestral VGM (and just orchestral music in general) is great imo. VGM orchestral music in particular can sound same-y some of the time, though I don't think this song falls victim to that. I love the low brass part in the latter half of this song. Epic/grand parts from brass sections are honestly a large part of what initially drove me to orchestral music in the first place however many years ago I started getting into it, so stuff like that's always great for me to listen to.

Aw man. I love I Was Born For This. Was really close to using it in one of my guessing lists recently. Probably not exactly surprising that this and the Journey soundtrack as a whole are right up my alley, but yeah.

What I do not love is the guitar in that Ys song. Ughh. That would have done a lot worse than 226/300 on my list if I made one.

I actually like the vocals for Fly High. The chorus is nice, and the whole song sounds like it could be an anime opening, which I mean in a good way. In fact I'm pretty sure there's a specific anime opening this reminds me of, but I wasn't able to figure out what I was thinking of.

Yeah I've listened to like 5 of the remake songs I think and I thought they were all worse.

In fairness, this particular one was pretty easily the worst of the lot that I've heard, though. The others were in the range of "not as good but still maybe acceptable".

Huh. Seymour Battle is a song I've historically never been a huge fan of, but I liked it somewhat more than I remember when listening just now. Maybe my tastes are changing or something idk. Anyway 0:44 specifically is really cool. There are other parts I'm not as much a fan of, but yeah.

I really don't like TV River jeez. I'm not sure exactly what the instrument or sound effect or whatever is called, but these sliding sounds really bug me a lot.

Lonely Rolling Star has always been nice, though I'd rank it below anything that I actively consider great VGM, for sure.

I don't think it's boring, but I'd definitely say it's only average as far as these long epic vgm tracks go. Like I'd take something like Don't Speak Her Name or The Merciless Savior over this any day. (probably unfair comparisons since those two are among my favorites, but oh well)

I like Runescape songs more than they probably deserve. They give off this feeling of nostalgic adventure which I really love. I don't think it's actual nostalgia either since I rarely actually listened to the music when I used to play Runescape--I just mean that's the type of sound it has. That being said these two particular songs I'm pretty neutral towards. They have individual parts I like pretty well, but overall I don't think I could say the same thing.

The reason I care about alleged Russian activities is not because it might have changed the election result, but because it currently seems like Russia is engaging in a highly involved and sophisticated campaign to divide our society and create chaos/discontent. I would guess/hope that the majority of people who care about this are of a similar mindset.

I still remember in my playthrough topic I just asked everyone immediately to spoil me on whether or not #2 was the original Laphi. Mostly because I thought (and still do think) it would have been a terrible direction to take the plot and didn't want to spend the entire game unsure whether or not they were going to do that.

C in chapter 6 was probably my favorite fight from the Cold Steel games.

Definitely my favorite from the first Cold Steel game, and I don't really remember any of the fights from Cold Steel II because of how hard I cheesed through that game >.>

A bit surprised at Bee'Jam Blues. Personally I think it's a pretty pleasant to listen to song, and it's not exactly my preferred style of music either. (ie. I'd think other people would be likely to enjoy it more than me, rather than less.)

Oh wow I actually like #302. It sounds intentionally amateur-ish rather than actually amateur-ish to me, in a way that it sounds fine and also seems like it could be pretty cool in context. And I mean I'm definitely not going to nominate it for next VGMC or anything but I do think it's a pretty solid song.

#303 would be a lot better without the YEAH YEAH I think, but as is...eh.

Ok if the fact that this is a thing in the show that exists is what's bothering you I can understand that.

To me this does not mean the show has an "anti-gay agenda", but you may be using the term differently than I'm imagining it.

Well yeah I can see how it's possible the show could give off that impression, but I just don't think it holds up to any sort of scrutiny. In order to defend the position you have to establish the following, at a minimum:

1. That the show is unambiguously "siding" with the adults/lawmakers of society in this case
2. That the decision is motivated by something other than their survival as a species
3. That this has any implications about real-life, modern society, given the massive differences between how our society works and how the society in the show works.

Unless I've missed or forgotten something big (it has been a few years), I just don't see a way to maintain all of those positions while staying within the realm of legitimate interpretation of the work.

Aw yeah From the New World. Probably my favorite ending to an anime ever, though I admit I'm not a huge fan of the ~2-3 episodes leading up to the end. Still overall a fantastic show. Probably in my top 5 or if not then just outside it.

For the life of me though I will never understand the evidently common belief that the characters are a weakness of this series.

It wasn't the voice.

I didn't really like anything about the episode but there was an awful comedy scene involving Aladdin and I think Morgiana (either that or just some random girl idk) that really turned me off.

I guess I'm lying a bit because Morgiana did seem like a relatively decent character from what I remember.
