I don't mind doing select writeups from earlier gens. Sigilyph in particular is important because there can be counterplay sometimes, but if you don't know it then it pretty much just wins every time. (And yes, there are a somewhat significant number of times where it just wins on the spot no matter what the opponent does)

What separates Sigilyph from something like Xerneas in my eyes is the issue of consistency. Sigilyph I don't think wins games with the same consistency Xerneas does since there's a lot more ways to beat it, and just as importantly I think Xerneas is contributing more than Sigilyph is in the cases when they don't win the game themselves.

Side note: Power Herb Xerneas I believe is level 73 now, when it was 71 in gen VI. Fun times.

I was only planning on gen VII, though I might be willing to do a few important Pokemon outside of gen VII as well now that you mention it. It's probably more important than doing writeups for a bunch of the generic attackers from gen VII at any rate. (Though I am going to focus on those first at least)

Also though I am generally of the opinion that Sigilyph is good but not quite as good as this group gives it credit for.

Sometimes, but I don't think it's as big as you think. It's definitely less of a factor than weather already was, for example. I've had way too many instances of stuff like sending out Politoed only for my opponent to respond by sending out Swift Swim Ludicolo or Heliolisk w/ Thunder, for example.

Two shows I didn't like interestingly enough. Watamote probably isn't too surprising, but I feel like one of the only people who reacted negatively to The Devil is a Part Timer. Something about the way the show handled the more serious side of its fantasy elements really rubbed me the wrong way.

Eiko is somewhat good but I mean Vivi is an FFIX character for crying out loud.

And so is Zidane for that matter. And Dagger. Eiko maybe 4th best? Her and Steiner are pretty close.

Disliked Neku more later on than early, personally. I don't think there are many others out there who share my opinion on the game, but I thought it was pretty good early on and hated it by the end. I didn't think the reveals for the mysteries were very good, and the gameplay really wore out its welcome for me over time.

I wouldn't say I hated it but I didn't particularly like the final third of the game. First and second parts were outstanding though.

Also almost definitely the only time the terrains will be relevant is when someone has one of the Tapu's. Nothing else has the ability to automatically summon a terrain, and nothing in Randbats that I have yet seen carries the moves that summon them (which existed in gen VI as well).

New terrains replace previous terrains but don't replace weather effects. Terrain and Weather are separate things and can both be active at the same time (but only one of each type can be active at a time).

It was, which kind of shocked me to be honest especially since it wasn't even me that nominated it initially. I love this entire soundtrack though tbh. I tried to get something else from the VN in a year or two ago but was unsuccessful.

Based on the OP I have the full party (well I have for a little) and I love the dynamic the last character has added to the group. Battle system seemingly just gets better and better over time too. Velvet so good. "You don't listen!" best mystic arte call

Honestly the party dynamic in this game works so well and I still don't even know how they did it. Possibly my favorite from any RPG? Not sure if it beats Persona 4 (the reigning champ of this category)especially since they're so different, but I don't know what else comes close other than maybe TitS and Persona 3.

They're all really good, charming, and endearing characters though. Pretty sure there's not a bad character in this series. I'll have to keep an eye out for when new stuff is released from here on out.

Rena definitely my favorite character, though I agree they're pretty much all good. I'm not much of a Chizuru fan, but I liked everyone else for sure.

Kaizaki/An the preferred ship though. Even though it's literally never going to happen RIP

Yeah I have never played gen VII outside of Randbats so I wouldn't know. I was just going off of what sets were on Smogon and some off-the-cuff comments from random people elsewhere.

For me it depends on the type of series. For straight romance shows I generally like the canon unless it's particularly terrible for one reason or another. If it's more a harem series I'm generally pushing a ship with whoever best girl is (or best guy if it's a reverse harem).

I actually didn't really like Chitose's development. I'm a bit fuzzy on the details, but I remember not liking the last couple episodes for one reason or another. (I did like her character during the early/middle episodes though) The ones I really did like throughout from a development standpoint were Kazuha and Momoka.

Fair enough. Speaking of reading things, I've made Google Docs now with what I have written so far. The first link lists significant changes to gen VI mechanics/Pokemon. The second is the in-progress document in which I'll be talking about the gen VII Pokemon. The first set of Pokemon that are in there now are the ones where I think people most need to be aware of their potential. (I don't want to say strongest since comparing set-up Pokes to generic attacking Pokemon with really good stats is kind of hard, but you get the idea.) I'll add more as I write them, which will hopefully happen sooner rather than later.

Also I do want to emphasize that these shouldn't be taken as comprehensive sources of information. First off there's no way I've seen every move or set that exists in the format now, and even if I had, new sets are regularly being added to the format anyways. So for example I can nearly guarantee some day I'm going to lose a game because I'm going to falsely assume one of the Pokemon I've described here as always Choiced won't actually have a Choice item. Additionally though, there are even changes I'm aware of and thoughts I have which I'm not writing down just because I'm trying to condense this to the most essential points. (The flip-side of that though is feel free to ask me stuff if anyone wants to, since I almost certainly will have more to say)

I'm not super familiar with creating stuff in Google Docs. I believe I've made it so anyone with the link can view but not edit the documents. Let me know if I messed that up though.

Fuck my life so much. Move 16/17 is probably the longest I've ever thought about a move without doing a damage calc. It looked like it was somehow going to pay off and then the Will-o-Wisp miss happened. And then the fucking high roll again after that. (To be fair, the range is 68.4%-80.8%, so turn 23 was a near bottom roll, but still.)

I also feel like I've seen Psychic and Fighting Z-moves at some point, but I can't remember what it was that had them. (I feel like the Psychic one might have been Mewtwo? That's a terrifying thought, but I'm not 100% sure it's correct)

Z-Moves are not widespread in Randoms yet, though that is one of the things I'd most expect might change going forward.

There are a few though. Talonflame, Landorus-T, Salamence, and Gyarados have Flynium-Z with varying likelihoods. (Talonflame almost always, for example) Bellossom and I think Carnivine (unsure) have Grassium-Z sometimes. PorygonZ has a somewhat uncommon Z-Conversion set which is completely terrifying (more detail in the first writeup whenever I actually post it). Azumarill has Z-Belly Drum now instead of Sitrus Berry+Belly Drum.

Those are the main ones I remember, but don't take that to be an exhaustive list. I haven't seen everything, and as I said I'm expecting them to be adding more going forward.

And like the main thing I'm actually going to be saying is just "this is what the Pokemon does". Doing an in-depth analysis for each Pokemon is a bit more work than I want to do for this, though I am planning on going into a bit more detail for some of the more relevant Pokemon that I think require it. (Minior is my longest writeup so far, which is pretty strong in the format and has a decent amount to explain because of how his ability works)

Yeah that's the intent. I've actually already written stuff detailing changes to existing mechanics/pokemon as well as descriptions for what I think the strongest Pokemon are from gen VII. I just have to actually collect them into one place and post them, which I've been too lazy to do so far >.>

I will mention though that this is going to be specifically geared towards Random Battles, so don't take this as an indicator of whether or not you should use the pokemon in gen VII OU or something. (One reason is relative strength of different mons is different due to how the level balancing works, but also sometimes Randoms just doesn't give the same sets that are actually competitively used. For example it seems Nihilego is mainly used competitively as a choiced special attacker, but in Randoms he pretty much exclusively has Entry Hazard sets. Another example is Persian-Alola which I'm led to believe has a niche as a defensive pivot in some competitive format, but in Randbats mainly has Nasty Plot sweeping sets possibly also with Hypnosis.)
