I don't like this part of HxH much but I'm also not sure I'd call it the worst part of the series.

HxH has way more bad parts than people give it credit for imo >.>

That being said you've already passed one of my least favorite parts, which was the entirety of that Killua mini-arc that should have ended a couple episodes ago or something. Really didn't like that, though I confess I don't even remember why. Something to do with Gon I think?

In general I really liked the middle of the show, while the beginning was okay, and the end was...eh. There were individual parts of the last few episodes I liked I guess, like the Tada/Teresa date.

Show has a top tier OP also, imo.

I don't really disagree with the spirit of that post, but I do think it's been clear what direction the show was going in for like 9-10 episodes or something.

Though yes, the side characters should pretty much have just not existed I feel like. (Or been made to be more relevant)

Finished Tada Never Falls in Love

Overall a pretty solid show. Definitely had its ups and downs though. Going to group this in the same category as The Pet Girl of Sakurasou I think. They're both romcoms I liked reasonably well, but they both have similar problems that prevent them from being really memorable. That being that they hammer in their characters' quirks too much, and sometimes the shows get way too melodramatic for their own good without proper build-up.

I do still really like the main 4 or so characters though (Tada/Teresa/Alec/Ijuin, and I suppose Charles also), so it's good enough for a solid 7/10.

I'm pretty sure I know who you were thinking of when you made that comment, but I do think that on the whole the Trails series has some pretty shitty fathers. Any elaboration on that would involve spoilers so I will not do that here, but that's how I feel at least.

Not that every dad in the series is bad of course, as there are some legitimately great ones. I'm only talking in aggregates here.

What I'm saying is that even in some hypothetical world where it is an absolute philosophical truth that someone is not worth engaging with, you still should not tell that person either directly or indirectly that they are not worth engaging with.

Why?

Because it is demeaning to that person and potentially demeaning to others who either have similar beliefs or to people who mistakenly (in this hypothetical construct) identify this person as someone who is worth engaging with. I take it to be a moral axiom that this fact is in-and-of-itself a bad thing. (Also it is worth pausing for a moment to point out that this becomes much much worse as soon you remove my "absolute truth" conditional statement)

Furthermore I do not perceive any potential benefit that could come from such an action which could not be achieved through methods which do not suffer from the above problem. If you're trying to avoid wasting time reading someone's nonsense, you could instead just not read it (made particularly easy here via the ignore button). If you're trying to communicate to other people that someone is not worth engaging with, you could instead for example communicate with that person privately, or engage with the original person's ideas anyways on the basis that by continually exposing flaws in that person's rationale/beliefs, others will naturally come to the conclusion that the person is not worth engaging with.

For fuck's sake.

First off, I have lurked this topic (and made a few posts) for somewhere around a year now, and I do believe Corrik to be someone who is worth engaging with.

But the point I'm trying to make has very little to do with whether or not he is actually worth engaging with. What I'm saying is that even in some hypothetical world where it is an absolute philosophical truth that someone is not worth engaging with, you still should not tell that person either directly or indirectly that they are not worth engaging with.

Also while I'm on the subject, actively advertising that you don't think certain people are worth engaging with is also pretty poor discussion etiquette. If you truly think a comment isn't worth your time to read/discuss then just ignore it. Don't go out of your way to say that something isn't worth your time or act like other people are obligated to feel the same way.

("That moment when you realize...")

I don't necessarily think any of those merited Jakyl's response either, but I think it's better to improve the discussion atmosphere by calling out those trying to rile people up than by calling out those who get riled up.

Even if it's not a guarantee, why should that change how the law treats this situation?

Yeah I do think that's what causes a lot of the disconnect. I think most people come out of situations like this thinking "cops need to receive better training", but I think the bar for "legal action should be taken against the individual officer" is much higher and should only be done in the most extreme cases. Removing the officer from the field and/or retraining him is more of a judgement call and very well might be the best option here.

Also since I never came out explicitly and said this--yes, I believe that actively and purposely resisting those responsible for enforcing the law should be valid grounds for losing the right to due process of the law, both from an ethical and from a logical standpoint. Any real ruling on this would have to be carefully worded to prevent abuses, but hopefully it's clear what I'm trying to communicate in regards to this specific case.

This is not necessarily true, and also this is where the fact that he was 17 comes into play. Not that the cops could have known, but I could totally imagine a scenario where an innocent black teenager feels like his best option is to run

I don't actually disagree (so I suppose I misspoke), but I would prefer that police acted as if what I said were true.

One thing I will say is that I view running away from the police as an admission of guilt on some level.

Not that this is something that would apply in court, but like you have no reason to run away from the police unless you've done something wrong, and that definitely factors into my stance here. (For the record--yes. I think the threshold for shooting a fleeing murder suspect should be substantially lower than the threshold for convicting someone in a court of law)

My understanding is that a confirmed drive-by murder was reported, and that the stopped car was confirmed to be the same car--presumably by color/model and also by the presence of bullet holes in the car.

That sounds pretty confirmed to me, though correct me if I'm wrong on any statement of fact.

I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that someone who has literally just committed murder and is actively running from law enforcement is armed and dangerous, and to then act accordingly.

Unwarranted police violence sucks but this case isn't that, from my perspective. (Assuming Corrik's information accurately/fairly represents the situation)
