I died a lot on the... second Metroid but then I realized that you can slow them down with the charged ice beam. That was a cool thing to discover. I don't have much trouble with the combat because I stand still and aim when I'm not dodging and I guess I'm decent at aiming. It also might be excessively easy to put checkpoints before and after Metroids regardless of whether you've saved or not.

I was going to say I'm enjoying Samus Returns but now the mood is already turned against me and I'm in the category of most people, who have bad taste. The biggest problem is it's kind of easy. Having a wall scan is fine but it shouldn't also reveal a big square of the surrounding map. Power-ups are auto-collected which is kind of ridiculous. Bomb jumping went from something I haven't learned to do to something I don't even need to make an effort for. The combat is fine, even good, but it's not exactly Metroid. Everything else pretty much is. Maybe it's that I've played Metroid 2 recently but not AM2R, but it's a fine game. The gating is identical to M2 aside from more blatantly pointing out where the gate is.

The loading was pretty fast on PS3, but the lack of loading minigames is the one "downgrade" in what was otherwise the best version.

If you're on Windows and have a local collection (don't need a store or anything), foobar2000 is what I used until I left Windows entirely.

I'll look into it. But to expand a bit more, my opinion on iTunes is the same as ExTha's (Could use FLAC support though) and I don't use podcasts or an iOS device.

Great example of its genre. It's even rather challenging just figuring out how to progress at times. Could use a map that distinguishes between doors and walls, and showing whether you've collected an item or not wouldn't hurt.
