Furi (PC)
Long overdue, started and abandoned on PS4. I played the PC version from the beginning and finished it. Quite an excellent shmup/character-action hybrid boss rush game, and accessible enough for me even though I'm not good at shmups. Very stylish, with each fight feeling different from the last.

It's acceptable for free, but it's no Helltaker or Princess Remedy. The jumping is kind of bad. Being able to jump 3 times in the air isn't much good if you can't clear 1 tile with a single jump and have to mash them out to reach max altitude. That said the entirety of the platforming isn't hard enough to make it all that frustrating.

Well, I understood why one person said to skip it, and another to play it to understand the improvements in the following games. Still easier to engage with than the original.

Pokemon White Version 2 (DS)
Pretty nice campaign with substantial differences from part 1. I got fed up with the eternal lack of things to level on before the Elite 4 and beat them all anyway.
God of War III Remastered (PS4)
I totally forgot that a lot of that final boss sequence existed, and it had been informing my opinion on the game. I remembered plenty of other stuff about this game. Still annoyed that there's a shortage of red orbs even if you get all the collectibles, and no NG+ to finish up with.

Old School Musical- Chicken Republic (PC)
Not a different game so much as a post-game set of content, but it's long and different enough to count. The theme here is increasing levels of visual distortion effects to make the standard rhythm game interface harder to process. Some of the tracks are repeats from the main campaign but generally benefit from the distracting visuals and no longer having part of their runtime be cutscenes.

My N64 suffering continues. I can see the good parts, I really can. But there's a lot there that shouldn't be how it is. Like that final boss.

Ys III: Wanderers from Ys (TurboCD)
TurboCD games are a trip. Graphics that can't really compete with the SNES but then voice acting. Anyway, pretty nice game, good music, bosses that felt distinct and somewhat well-tuned combat. It might be more frustrating if you couldn't save scum.

Metroid Prime (Wii)
Not a big fan of these controls, or of the amount of backtracking through platformy, enemy-filled terrain. Probably going to go GCN for the sequel.

Chrono Cross (PS1)
The final dungeon tried our patience and left us very confused about the plot. And then standing in front of the final boss were 3 NPCs who dropped ALL the exposition. This is not ideal.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii)
It is pretty much more of Galaxy. I like the home ship that keeps accumulating NPCs as you clear stuff. But Wiimote controls still grate on my nerves. Everyone says these games are easy but I struggle with them about as much as Megaman and Castlevania.

Yeah okay, it's linear compared to Super Metroid, but it has a story between the beginning and end. With a xenomorph.

A very brief overview of Dragon Ball up through King Piccolo, in alternating beat-em-up and 1v1 fighting game lite format. Pretty fun.

I did the 99 lives combo after running out in a late world and ended up using like half of them by the end. I was breaking even for a while but then worlds 7 and 8 hit. Star Coins are no joke.

Timespinner (Vita)
Good Metroidvania which wears its Castlevania inspiration on its sleeve. Interesting sci-fi/fantasy time travel setting. Load times were horrendous on Vita though.

I like how some of the enemy designs here are sort of proto-Bayonetta. And it remains fun to play whether you're Nero or Dante.

Shovel Knight: King of Cards (Vita)
One of the better campaigns. I don't know if it's the best. Despite moving away from a Megaman structure of boss stage after boss stage, it had some really good boss fights and stage design. The card game is fun too, once you wrap your head around it.

Batman: Arkham Asylum (PC) (Replay)
Still pretty fun, particularly the stealth and hunting for collectibles. It's an old game so max settings seemed to work pretty well. One of the Scarecrow sequences caused the game to crash, and on retry had bad slowdown for a few seconds afterwards while the game "recovered".

I like that Switch is portable but I still don't like the controls in portable mode. Or even the Pro if I need a good d-pad. Then again it's good for touch screen games like the Rayark rhythm games.

Plague is a bold statement of "This is what we can do with an expansion" but the controls and everything feel kind of rough for what you have to deal with. Having to customize projectiles on the fly doesn't mesh well with quick action gameplay. Spectre pulls a Megaman X and next-gens the whole thing, while also feeling natural. King Knight seems good so far, although the card game can be frustrating and stages without bosses feel anti-climactic when everything's been run on a Megaman model before that.

Him being a villain is less of a twist. Even if you haven't seen Kingsglaive, Ardyn is explicitly the second-in-command of your primary enemy. And also really blatantly sinister.
