| paperwarior 12/21/20 7:16:57 PM #358 | Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation (DS) Not bad overall, but I ended up being so unprepared for the final boss that I had to respec my party by way of a lot of grinding. They may have bit off more than they could chew with the class system, because I ended up putting my hero into a class that was no good for unlocking hero as a class, and 3 or so characters gravitated to the same second-level class with the help of one joining with it already unlocked. I was worried at first that my poor sense of direction would make it difficult to handle but you can continuously find new stuff just by wandering. So I got to the end, which isn't clearly marked but does seem like an end. The Wild West theme is somewhat tenuous here, as the themes would mostly be right at home in a Final Fantasy, but we get some good music out of it. Game is sprite-based with 3D battle visuals, both of which look nice. It was more authentic but still a pain in the ass. All the microphone-controlled things were particularly heinous. The structure was unconventional, and the devs went wild with the level-creation tools. I always felt like LBP had too many objects taken from the campaign, as opposed to making a good set of resources and then making levels like everyone else. That miniplane one is really bad on any of the actual bosses. King Dice's miniboss 6 is much less painful even when walled behind another fight and dice rolls. Pacifist is a rough time too. It's definitely nuts. | paperwarior 07/02/20 9:42:46 PM #6 | Something like Velocity Ultra with precise hard gameplay. NIER's took... persistence but I feel like it may have been a mistake. On a less restricted note, some good hard modes I've beaten are Shank 1 and 2, Ninja Warriors Again and Drill Dozer. Drill Dozer is a good one because it's a "one-hit game over" mode and basically fixes the game's balance.
