puppet perfomance is really good, it's clear it was made by someone who is very familiar with pokemon (some of the mons/archetypes are very familiar, like I think one of the sakuyas is literally scizor) but who cleaned up a lot of little annoyances in the games. If you want something very different from pokemon don't try it, but if you're looking for pokemon++ it's great

my favourite touhou game is gensokyo no nazo, which is a fangame of atlantis no nazo (which I suspect no one here has ever played). it's a 2D action/exploration game that's quite maze-like

there is obviously a difference in observing a cutscene as a detached party and "creating" the "cutscene" as yourself through your own actions

it's definitely kinda dumb but really does not feel that much crazier than the usual weird matsuri moments

I use a brand account, which as far as I can tell cannot receive gift subs. which basically means spending $5 per month for every smallcorp vtuber I watch, gifts in those streams get handed out like candy

There's a list of them if you click your account icon in the top right and go to purchases and memberships

hajime's intro/outro are both really nice even though they're just simple bgm and straightforward animation, I dunno what it is about them exactly they're just very satisfying to watch

Haachama and Ririka have great waiting screens. Red Heart and KPG are always catchy. Marine is a given too since her's is Ahoy. I also still love Irys loading screen. But if I'm watching vods I just skip the loading screens.

as far as the music + random voice lines style goes I've always preferred koyori over ririka, it's got a little bit more energy to it

"sleeping pills" sounds benign but there are definitely some of those you definitely don't want to take too many of and/or with significant withdrawl symptoms

donation incentive for taking drugs on stream just feels like an all-around bad idea. she's clearly having some issues to even consider making it (she'd had some history of it too so like...) but tthen also why would someone who is a fan want to pay a bunch of money specifically to encourage this behaviour when they should know it's a problem for her

Normally I'd say your biggest haters often come from your biggest fans, since the people who are closer to the indifference part or the scale just transition into not really caring instead of being some crazy anti. But gura's big enough she's also got all the people who are hating for like... second-hand jealousy? You know, the "If you were just going to throw it all away, why couldn't my oshi have gotten this attention from the beginning instead it would be so much better she wouldn't waste it"

personally I just like joking about it because I think it's legitimately funny that the idea gura only streams to shill merge started out as some fringe conspiracy theory kinda thing and then has essentially just been proven true at this point

she could definitely solve this with a little bit of communication and maybe at least a stream every 2 weeks instead of every 2 months <_<

in the end though if you've got burnout it's not like you really care about solving it either. and it's a totally different thing than just being busy so it's not like taking a break or doing less event prep or whatever actually helps anything here. I'm kinda of the opinion she'll never return to being a streamer in the same sort of way at all; she clearly doesn't have the internal motivation for it anymore and there's not much external motivation either

This is cruel

This is one of the levels that was really broken in first release, like I mentioned earlier. The overall concept of the level was there, but the flag was too close to where you started, so it was possible to just walk straight to it without any detours, ignoring essentially all the text on the screen. If you actually tried to interact with any of it though you wasted moves and it got way harder

As far as the work culture stuff goes. The US works more hours on average. We have 13 national holidays, most people have 10-20 days off paid leave (I get 20), most people are just working a regular 8 hour day. The crazy horrible stories you hear about overwork at black companies are real, but stuff like that happens everywhere. You are just focused on Japan and assuming that is normal because it's a media narrative online. The fact is they aren't actually working insane hours, the US works more hours, the US has a higher suicide rate, you just don't know that because the memes online have replaced facts.

I can't find the study again (ok I probably could if I looked but I'm busy atm) but I remember seeing a thing that put teaching in japan at the top of total work hours compared to teaching worldwide, while at the same time near the bottom of time actually spent teaching. Which I guess can get you lots of time to prep for high quality lessons but the working time was honestly absurd

and it sort of balances out with what my brother's said about his experience teaching english there, there's a lot of time when they want you around and "working" when there isn't really any work to do

I first played the game very shortly after release, and some levels (a lot of them around the area you're in now) were bugged and had extremely easy unintended solutions. They got patched later, so overall the game is more difficult than when I originally beat it

I don't remember if this was one of them or not but maybe I should try playing it again and see if I can find differences

JP's done it a few times as well. My actual real non-shitposting guess would be that they were willing to leave it if it was a rare one-off or two-off thing but as it became more common they eventually decided to stop it before it became even more of a thing

funny thing is that bunburrows has (had?) an achievement for 100% with the descriptive text "that we know of..." and the community later found another 20%ish. Game's so complex even the devs aren't even sure all the possible things you can do as solutions

Interesting you group parabox in with it, maybe it gets really hard in the last 2% of the game or something but I found most of it so braindead I just kinda dropped the game. It's a really good example I think of why every puzzle game needs a few red herrings in it since parabox solutions gradually get more and more complex but they never really get any more difficult

My other favourite cute -> impossible puzzle game is paquerette down the bunburrows, definitely recommend to anyone who likes level-based puzzle games that eventually just go off the deep end

It's a level-based puzzle game where you really have to think outside the box. The goal of each level is to win, by touching an object that has the "win" property. But all the rules that govern how objects act, what objects are, how they can be interacted with, etc are also objects in the game field itself. There's a wall in your way? Go find the WALL IS STOP and move one of the words somewhere else and suddenly you can just walk through the wall. Or maybe replace STOP with WIN and now you win when you touch the wall. Or replace it with YOU and now you control the wall instead of whatever you were controlling before

I stopped after the map where you had to turn one object to two. Watched Vinny play through the same stage and both him and his audience called it a bullshit solution that apparently never again comes into play, but it still made me feel stupid for not getting it on my own.

This level was such a big difficulty outlier in the first release that in a later update they moved it to a special level and replaced its spot in the numbering with a level designed to teach the same concept in a different and more easily comprehensible way. Basically that single level got a tutorial added just for it.

The part about it never coming into play again though is just a lie, you'll definitely make use of that mechanic later

Pickaxes weren't really the primary thing used to excavate, it was either explosives or fire and water.

How do you do it with fire + water? because explosives are a fair bit newer than the concept of mining

Is Godot code easy to pick up?

I thought it was pretty straightforward at least. The language integrates well with the way you're intended to structure your game and it doesn't have too much annoying boilerplate or complex syntax. Reminds me of python in a lot of ways. It has optional static typing so you can kinda go whichever way you want on that (I strongly recommend using it though, it makes things much easier to debug). Or you can just use C# but you should at least give GDscript a try first

I've never used gamemaker so I don't really know. But it's free, which I don't think gamemaker is? So that might be a reason all on its own. It's also under continuous active development and improvement and I've heard gamemaker is sort of stagnating.

Other than that I suspect it's probably lower level, which means you have far more control but also means you need to have a little more programming knowledge and ability

multiple holos have mentioned glove rules in the past and many handcam streams have been forever privated for reasons probably related to this. didn't most of them in the nails stream just have fingerless gloves on?

I like it a lot. It works well for most things I want to do (2D games that aren't super complex) and the semi-recent godot 4 release improved a ton of things, stuff like making UIs isn't too hard either and in general the engine seems to work in a sensible predictable way. I've heard the 3D isn't bad either but I can't speak for it personally, I've never tried.

I absolutely hate unity so any comparison would be extremely biased, but some things that I think godot does way better

• Easier to work in 2D without it feeling like you're just perverting a 3D system
• Way more lightweight, downloads faster, runs faster, compiles faster, takes up significant less disk space
• Easier to find accurate examples and documentation (unity's been around so long that so much stuff you find googling is super outdated)
• Editor UI and UX is just way better, and things just generally work the way you expect them in the engine while unity it felt like I was fighting the system at every turn

You do miss out on two pretty big things, though: Godot can't build for console (I imagine this doesn't really matter to you lol). And also you don't get the unity asset store, which is a giant database of models and scripts and assets and all kinds of useful pieces that are honestly probably 90% of the value of unity as an engine

I think I got off about as easy as possible, I can do that in like 2 minutes and it will inconvenience essentially no one

This sort of thing happened in front of my place once and it turned out the car was stolen and it was returned to its actual owner (lived nowhere nearby)

We're living in a world that is growing increasing online, enabling online friends and relationships at the cost of offline ones. The recent covid lockdowns have certainly not helped this feeling of isolation. People are waiting until later in their lives to start being concerned about long-term romantic relationships, marriage, etc.

So you've got these people who are not worrying so much about a partner but really just want to have some buddies they can chill and goof off and etc etc with. And then you go over to media and if a bunch of it is romance stories and no one really has any true friends, only workplace relationships and romantic relationships, of course this audience is going to be disappointed
