Even so, I'm really impressed by your dedication. I love people who set their mind to a big task and follow through.

I'm trying to do that myself. I have big projects I'm working on, but yeah, it's not trivial to sustain big effort over a long time. Just ask my multi-month video essay project.

Holy fuck dude. I'm saying replace "trans/transgender/transexual/etc" with "black" or "white".

"Sex is real, so trans people are delusional and letting them go in places will devalue women and lead to violence".

It's no different than saying black people need to be separate because crime statistics show they commit more violent crime, or citing some study that shows skull shape differences.

What makes gender bigotry more valid than racial bigotry?

I think she's just saying the first part though, the "sex is real" part.

Like yeah, most sentences become awful if you add awful stuff to the end.

The comparison is "race is real, so we cannot let white people pretending to be black into spaces for black people." Now her critics would say you can choose your sex but not your race. And so while yes you shouldn't let white people pretending to be black into black spaces, a person identifying as biologically female is biologically female and belongs in every single space that cis biological females belong.

As I understand it, her stance is "transwomen are real, but they are not identical to ciswomen in every way".

So if someone said black people weren't real and letting them in the bathroom will just lead to violent crime, we would call that person a crazy bigot.

But somehow hating gay and trans people is considered a valid differing opinion.

She is saying sex is real and her opponents in this context are saying otherwise.

So in this comparison she would be the one saying race is real, and the opponents would be saying you can choose your race.

Since most people don't recognize transracial as a "real thing", using this metaphor doesn't work here.

I was not, a pervious topic accurately stated
" Those rioters are no better than the terrorists on 9/11."

In my absolutely and unforgivable ignorance I disagreed. My disagreement was wrong and unacceptable.

I am profoundly grateful to the moderation staff for giving me an appropriate 3 day warning where I woke up from my ignorance.

Of course these 2 groups are equally bad, to say otherwise or to suggest any nuance or distinction between them is obviously to defend one of them. And so it is morally and objectively wrong to make any distinction between them, they are completely equivalent in all ways, as proven by the earlier logic many here helped me discover.

I must first apologize for my former ignorance, due to the very justified 3 day warning I was given for my false view, I was forced to look inward and appreciate my ignorance. And I was indeed ignorant:

I said that the capitol hill rioters were bad people who should be strongly prosecuted but that they were not as bad as the 9/11 terrorists. THIS IS OBJECTIVELY FALSE AND I WAS WRONG TO SAY IT.

It is a basic truth that if 2 things or people are bad then they are equally bad. As others and the moderators pointed out this can be proven quite simply using logic:

Bad thing 1 = bad
Bad thing 2 = bad
If
Bad thing 2 is worse then bad thing 1
that would mean that
Bad thing 1 is better than bad thing 2

And if something is "better" that makes it good, and bad things aren't good. Thus: All bad things must be equally bad QED

As we all know to say anything is better than anything else is to defend it AND DEFENDING BAD THINGS IS INDEFENSIBLE.

If you include anything but total and absolute condemnation of something that is bad, you are defending the thing. This is why we never want compassion or empathy for those who have done wrong. Any thing that isn't 100% condemnation of anybody bad is a defense of them from 100% condemnation and it is WRONG to defend bad people.

It is objectively false to say there is first degree and second degree murder, all murder is bad, and as such we can't say one murder is "better" because that means it's not bad and obviously that's wrong.

It is objectively false to say DEFCON 4 (Increased intelligence watch and strengthened security measures) is better than DEFCON 1 (Nuclear war is imminent or has already started). If you say DEFCON 4 is better than DEFCON 1 you are saying DEFCON 4 is good. All DEFCONS are bad and so they are all equally bad because none can be better.

This 3 day warning due to my ignorant and FALSE previous ignorant views really helped me learn. Censorship of bad/ignorant ideas works, it made me learn how wrong I was. Now I know the objective TRUTH: That the 1/6 terrorists were objectively as bad as the 9/11 terrorists.

I dont know how to explain the dichotomy in 2020.

Were that many Republicans just voting AGAINST Trump?
Yes.

He was voted in as a disruptor to the status quo, a symbol of "fuck you" to the establishment. But after 4 years of that plenty of republicans were like "yeah, we didn't get that much good out of him, and Biden is fine, he's not like Hillary or AoC or some shit"

Trump wasn't a mainstream republican which is why trends around him were very different.

Put simply. There is just no evidence for election fraud.

Like there were lots of legal investigations into it, and no evidence for fraud came up.

Most of the evidence for it is just "hey look at this, kinda sus mirite?" which is maybe a launching point for investigation, but the investigations happened and nobody could come up with anything.

Trust me, I care about the truth and I have a contrarian streak, if there was a massive cover up I'd be at least somewhat aware of it, and even I'm like "that's a hard no from me, dawg" because there is simply no evidence for it.

With the current level of fuckery from the GOP they're trying to chip away at civil rights and the Voting Rights Act is the most visible of the backlash politics agenda. We are fighting the same battle for the VRA as my parents' and grandparents' generation. They see the changing demographics on the horizon and are doing whatever they can to stem that, with a compliant SC and after packing the Federal courts I wouldn't put anything past them.

I think it's more of a power grab than an attempt to take away civil rights, I think they see the writing on the wall when it comes to demographics and so they think the only way to win is to stack the deck. It's shitty, for sure, and something we need to fight, but I don't see them stealing civil rights as part of their endgame just whatever they have to do to maintain power, outside of that they want to slid back into the darkness and wield power from the shadows while they get most people to fight about inane shit.

NGL, I'm concerned about their power on the courts, and I'm concerned about their fucking with democracy.

The one small concilation is that I don't think they are racist or want to turn the country fascist, they just want to maintain their power.

It's a money/power/class thing more than a civil rights thing IMO. Which is still very bad and something we should all fight against.

Uncritical thinking, sure, I've seen that on both sides. I don't know if one side is "more likely", truth is I tend to ineract with a lot more people on the left than the right, but I will push back when I hear something dumb from either side.

Like if this were a republican forum I'd probably be equally unpopular and perceived as contrarian.

Everybody agrees it was very bad and these people need to be prosecuted severely. If you make that your argument you easily win. But if you make the argument "they are as bad as the worst terrorists who ever terrorized" you just shot yourself in the foot for no good reason.

The need to engage in pointless hyperbole is taking away from an easy victory for society in condemning the hell out of what happened.

The people on 1/6 were chanting death threats, and trying to violently overthrow the government for political reasons. Just because they were too stupid to do it and failed to accomplish what they were trying to doesnt make them any less of a terrorist. They are the textbook definition of terrorists. hell, a sitting congresswoman was live tweet the location of politicians so they could find her. What do you think they intended to do if they were able to get to her? Sit down and have a dignified chat with her? Come the fuck on, bro. Stop being so dense.

Most people think Trumps speech inspired this riot at the capitol. If that is so we can't also say it was a premeditated terrorist attack.

Also if they sincerely believed the gaslighting that they had been told that democracy itself had been stolen from them that also makes it different.

They were a mob of angry people who had been convinced that democracy had been stolen from them, and they began behaving illegally and violently. But that is still different than premeditated efforts to causes maximum loss of life.

Anybody coming in there with some premeditated plan to hurt or kill people, yes, you could make an argument against them. But the vast majority of people seem swept up by trump's rhetoric and so while bad, were not terrorists.

You don't not want to expand the legal definition for what counts as a terrorist to include rioter with political motivations. That is very dangerous.

And I was basically saying it was because (aside from in government, which is a big important deal) republicans haven't captured that much power in our social reality.

Mostly I was talking about how it's not a left vs right thing though and I'm much more dividing things based on those who think in a hivemind way and those who think critically. That's much more my concern.

The left vs right points are largely irrelevant. We just should call out bullshit and dangerous things whenever they come up.

If something is grounded in facts, it's far left.

If it's grounded in belief or falsehoods, it's center-right at the minimum

This is just reality.

No it's not.

Facts have no political affiliation.

Facts have a liberal bias, we know this.

I didn't say this.

Facts are not political.

there's plenty of slice-of-life shit in Twin Peaks. it's interspersed with dealing with small town issues, raising a family, jealousy, and going to the local diner.

it does get pretty off the wall, though.

OP seems to be asking for things in strange environments where the characters and situations feel relatable.

Twin Peaks is people in relatable environments where the characters and situations are very very very strange.
