| foolm0r0n 04/30/24 1:12:07 PM #42 | The urban settings were the most fun in 3 but the jungle areas are very underrated. I think most people ruined it with the Subsistence camera. They complained about how the static camera was too difficult and how much better (easier) the dynamic is, but it was actually perfectly difficult and the level design relies on it.
The jungle is also far more about the environment than the AI, which is really cool. The first time through you're getting destroyed by traps, leeches, animals, random guards, while searching for food and dealing with camo. But it's easy to learn the levels and sightlines, then you can run through the whole thing no problem without touching camo or food. It's less deep than dealing with AI but it adds a nice dimension that the other games don't have. --- _foolmo_ he says listen to my story this maybe are last chance |

- Liquid is genetically superior to SolidI thought this was uncontroversially the story, and it was clear in the delivery in-game too. The only way it could be confusing is if you think all fiction characters are reliable omniscient narrators. | foolm0r0n 04/29/24 7:50:20 PM #25 | It's funny when you see people review games like this with 100s of hours on Steam and then say it ran out of content and got old too quickly. Modern game design has ruined our expectations and also ruined our ability to enjoy things at a fundamental level.
Compared to this game I've had FAR worse 20 hour experiences (which were still pretty good), so that's all I need to be satisfied. It also became a pretty fun routine for a couple of weeks to do 1 or 2 runs every morning before work. No other recent game has done that for me, so that gets points. Another thing to consider is that, if you've played an action roguelike before, you're in a minority veteran group of players who are not necessarily the game's audience. I bet 80+% of Hades players had never seriously played a roguelike, and they came to this game due to Supergiant brand awareness or the narrative appeal. This game is absolutely a masterpiece to that specific audience (remember how you felt when you discovered Isaac, but 10x it due to the narrative). The fact that us veterans can still find decent enjoyment in it is a very impressive bonus, but completely unnecessary. I'm curious what they do with Hades 2, since the game design is now specifically targeting people who have at least 1 roguelike under their belt. --- _foolmo_ he says listen to my story this maybe are last chance |

It has a pretty steep but short learning curve, and after that it's just pure joy as you get better and better and discover more nuance and tricks to go faster. The learning curve is required to give it much more depth than 2 and 1 (which are still super fun).
It's hard to overstate how important the overall presentation is to the feel of the stealth gameplay too. V's structure is mindless, so nothing in the gameplay really sticks with you other than the mindless tag-tranq-fulton loop. The numbered games have such varied and interesting contexts to each scene, that it encourages more memorable use of the deepest mechanics. --- _foolmo_ he says listen to my story this maybe are last chance |

It does a lot of updating the screen without reloading the entire page, so that could be it. Might need to add in some sort of hold while it loads all the required info before swapping if it's looking too off.That was the first thing I was gonna fix when I got the source code hah. It's hard to judge because MS was first to deliver these impactful technologies, but they weren't the only ones doing them. So without MS, the tech would definitely have still happened, though maybe a bit slower. You could then argue MS isn't really deserving of the credit. They were just really good at taking credit with their "embrace, extend, extinguish" strategy. I'm guessing by how much praise it gets, that the episodes get better? But I find that a bit hard to believe considering how short they are.The episodes are super varied, so eventually a couple hit you, and then you get it. But also, the show is almost entirely for parents. I would say like 70% for parents, 20% for kids, 10% for animation nerds. I don't really get watching it otherwise. To be fair I did watch Friendship is Magic as an adult. But that's just a nice slice of life comedy cartoon, while this is a series of brutal parenting lessons. Many episodes aren't even comedic. I guess if you have unresolved childhood trauma it would also apply, and who doesn't. Also among my friends with kids, about half of them didn't get into the show at all.
