I tried giving this an honest shot but it's pretty trash

thinking of it stand alone, without comparing it to VC, helps slightly but even then the story is typical anime cliches and load times are really bad. combat wise there's nothing interesting here.

4 is absolutely worth it but it's still not as good as the og VC. honestly VC2 for the PSP might be better.

The Train Graveyard is absolutely better. The sewers are meh.

I have big problems with 2-2 but I'll save them for later. The Maya mythology stuff is good but the mechanics of the case are kind of clunky.

the greatest irony of p4 is that they made yu the ultimate chad and made all the girls unappealing romantically

rise is the best choice but in p3 or p5 she'd be boring

Like Martin's ideas quite a bit. Here are mine:

Game 2: Kalm/Nibelheim flashback introduction. New engine/system gives us one "open world" area with Kalm on one end, Junon on the other, and Cosmo Canyon in the middle.

Area is navigable via motorcycle (Cloud) while everyone else follows behind in a truck. Other areas include Midgar Zolom/Cave, Fort Condor, Gonzaga, Chocobo Ranch.

Midgar Zolom is seen in the main story but fighting it is optional/sidequest. Elena is introduced.

Yuffie gets introduced via Fort Condor through mostly a new narrative relating to Wutai and the Original Avalanche.

Bugenhagen/Nanaki stuff in Cosmo Canyon is mostly the same.

Gonzaga mission features a Zack flashback and a triple Turk battle.

Once the party arrives at Junon the game gets more linear, following the events of the main game somewhat. It ends after the Jenova battle on the ship. Everyone dresses in sailor outfits. Game 2 features playable Yuffie and Red XIII.

By the end of the second game, most of the new "Wutai"/original Avalanche plotlines should be relatively resolved or developed into a narrative that more closely references the Ancients/Promised Land.

Game 3: The party arrives at Costa Del Sol. Like the prior game, this one features a large open area with Gold Saucer in the middle and Nibelheim on the other end.

The plot here I imagine will be even more different/revised from Game 2, but at the very least the game needs to follow a path that takes the player through Barrett's backstory/North Corel/Cait Sith, the Nibelheim mansion/Vincent, and Rocket Town/Cid.

Based on Game 1, the developers could probably make a whole game out of Gold Saucer - lots there for padding related to Jessie, Dio, Chocobo Racing, minigames extravaganza.

After Rocket Town, the game goes "on rails" to the Temple of the Ancients and a condensed series of events that gets us to the original End of Disc One. Where Aerith lives obviously.

Game Four: I think it's possible to finish the rest of the game here. Also I wouldn't mind if the plot of this game is completely new. Scenes I would like to see however are Aerith's parents in Ice Glacier. Cloud going bonkers, Tifa escape sequence, Three separate parties looking for huge materia (including some wacky new party members like Zack, Roche, and Reno), Tifa saving Cloud in the lifestream, Vincent flashback, optional Weapon superbosses and a new final dungeon. I never liked the original's tbh. And yeah, obviously "Under the Highwind" has to make an appearance to some degree.

Vita is better, but if you just compare the libraries directly (ignoring the fact that the Vita can play the PSP games) then the PSP has better exclusives: Peace Walker, BBS, P3P, Wild Arms, Tactics Ogre remake, etc.

Again, that's ignoring the fact that you can probably play these on the Vita too. Vita's no slouch either, obviously.

Saying P4G is a "clear step back" gameplay wise from P5 is exaggerating a bit. it's still delightful to play.

3 is not the same kind of rough as 1 and 2, that's the split in the series. It's the same fundamental type of game as 4 and 5, and is narratively strong as well.

Problem is you have to either play a version that has gameplay improvements but butchered presentation, or a version where you can't control your party members. I would be pretty excited for a P3 remake that made it better to play.

P3P is the definitive P3 version. I actually think the cursor interface is really cool and works well for P3.

What do you all think? AC has been out for about two months and has sold around 13.5 million copies, according to Wikipedia. It's being parodied on SNL and is certainly having a moment.

Obviously, I feel like gamers will get excited about a new Zelda game but it seems to me that AC is probably Nintendo's third or fourth largest market now (Kart, Smash, Pokemon being its major competitors).

Just curious what others think.

I would say Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. I like fighting games, both watching and playing, but I've never been great at this series (I did buy MVC2) and never really wanted to play myself. I've watched matches at EVO and other tournaments and it's still fun to watch.

love watching umvc3 - absolutely hated playing it. touch of death combos, scrubby online, way too easy single player.

1-5 is very good I think. A minority of people hate it for being super long, I think, but it never feels boring to me. I think the side characters are all pretty good too. Jake Marshall is great.

I swear the blue badger/vase connection is impossible without a guide though. I swear someone back me up on this.

I feel like references have always been a thing in all forms of entertainment media. For an earlier example than PW, see anything released by Working Designs in the 90's.

The bottom line is if you like the thing being referenced you probably don't mind the reference.

But yes, how the reference is delivered is important. It's the difference between something seeming pandering and a reference that makes you feel included.

definitely. lp2 was a bit of a letdown, but lp3 is really good.

xenogears is definitely the best, even with that disc 2

xenoblade chronicles is also good. the rest are straight garbage, including all the xenosagas

If I had no choice but to pick a single character out of all the ones named in this topic, it would probably be him. I envy most people here for not knowing who he is.

I think in order to qualify as a bad protagonist you need to be noticeably worse than a large percentage of your cast. The game is full of characters worse than Edge.

He is terrible though.

I have three main points about the reactions to the new character. Don't read these if you're avoiding plot spoilers:

first of all, people will say "oh it's totally unrealistic for her to be so built during an apocalypse" but the world of TLOU2 is such that there are things like electricity, farms, and gyms, so it's not completely out of left field.

secondly, if abby wasn't abby and was actually a burly dude named "Alex" half of the complaints about the character's role in the story would magically vanish. some people would still be upset about joel dying no matter what or how, but I think many are simply upset that a woman kills a man.

thirdly, I don't think abby is a transperson; I think that's being read into by insecure internet types. but if she is, then this is a whole different can of worms in terms of problematic representation.

1-3 is often maligned but honestly the twist in this case basically sets the tone for the series as a whole

40% misogynist/homophobic trolls
40% fans upset with the story choices
20% crunch-time/industry practices complaints

My theory is that it's someone from another team not ND/Sony affiliated (like how something like Nier:Automata is developed by Platinum, published by Square, but also has people from a ton of other studios working on it too)

dude gets pissed about the delay due to rona and is perhaps just super stressed due to everything and lets it fly.

I've never seen a game get so thoroughly decimated by a leak before. KH3 leaked but nothing really happened. This has gone from AAA GOTY to angry nerd sacrifice insanely fast.

I'm in the late game now. I haven't had any issues with the voice acting.

Other stuff though. Yeah. Nothing terrible, but like P4G I sometimes question if this is actually "better"
