Besides story-driven sequels, which are not really fair answers...I feel like most Ys games are not the best game to start with. TBH, I'm not really sure which one *is* the best to start with.

Now I wish I had saved the other 8 or 9 tracks I was considering nominating.

I hope nobody's opinion is tainted by the...taint...of...taint.

In the most direct of senses, I wouldn't say the story is fantastic, but as far as building a world to adventure in, it's really good. As a vehicle for the game, I give it 8/10.

I seriously considered picking Gunslinger. Is it really that complicated?

Had a list of about 12 tracks I considered for nominations, but ultimately made some judgement between which would be most likely to be VGMC considerations and which would be most likely to fit into the StEJ soundtrack.

The class try out option was awesome. What a great feature.

I will say, this one component of the game is amazing. The devs are very interesting in giving you the chance to properly step into the game, between all the class try-out options and the ample accessibility options.

Have you played PSO1, by any chance? I got to try that out on PS2 way back in the day -- episode 1, at least -- and although I had a friend who was SUPER into it, so I ended up getting roped into some local multiplayer on a number of occasions, I was never into it. The combat was ridiculously stiff, the gameplay loop wasn't that interesting. It was like playing Diablo 1, clearing one or two map floors, and then going back to futuristic Tristram, except I was never clear on how useful my upgrades were or what I was really trying to achieve.

I'm sure PSO2 is way better, and I don't want to hijack this thread to talk about PSO2 over Lost Ark, but I know how much you champion the game, so I figured I'd ask if you had some sense how much of an upgrade the game was fundamentally. I suppose simply from almost 20 years of technology later it simply has to be better, but the core gameplay wasn't anything exciting, so that's not saying much.

3 hours and I'm pretty lukewarm towards the game. It's Grim Dawn mixed with Dungeon & Fighter.

Well, thought maybe I'd try this and downloaded it yesterday, but, uh...

Was a blank slate on this, but I spent the last half hour looking at classes. Might go wardancer. Not sure.

Only game I played here is Astalon, although I have Unsighted on my wishlist and I'm curious about a couple others.

Geez, 2 hours ago I had never heard of this game, and now I've had it spring up in 3 different places. Hell of a flash marketing campaign to come out of nowhere like that.

This. And also what andy said. The tweet makes it sound like they're overtly trying to make bad games, if they're being juxtaposed against "well-designed titles," which isn't at all what was said. It's a sensationalist misquote, plain and simple, regardless of what else might be at work in the story.

7.5 seems about right. I have intense nostalgia, particularly wrt/ the ending, but I can respect that the middle of the story isn't much plotwise. Stilll, it's kinda fun exploring the Wind Fish's bizarre dream world with singing frogs, Mario monsters, 2-D platforming, a dungeon dedicated entirely to faces, etc. and I'll argue that is part of the storytelling here.

I don't know a single person who owns GTA V. Who are these 164 million (presumably) different people?

I'm here daily as a result of habits formed from hosting VGMC. Occasionally I won't look at the site when I wake up in the morning and then don't come back until late in the day, and at least a few times that's been after midnight, resulting in not visiting the site that day according to the calendar.

That tweet takes the "one-off, well-designed" waaayy out of context, as if to say that a game that is enjoyed for a long time can't be well-designed. If you look in the article, that's not at all what he says.

Like, I'm not unaware of this, but I don't see why. Haven't watched one since the T-Rex in Miami, which was either 2 or 3.

I would consider trying VR if I could find somewhere to see what it's like before I buy. I've had some issues lately with staring at certain displays or certain games, and the last thing I want to do is invest a ton of time, money, and motivation into a piece of hardware that I'm not going to enjoy (either literally or because I can't continue to focus on it.)
