It has less varied envirinments, enemies more similar to each other, and every level is pure platforming hell instead of something more unique. It's similar to how Megaman Battle Network or Mario Party or Sonic or the original Megaman compare to their sequels. It took two games to get the formula perfect.

Much of this site grew up in the 90s and certain games - Chrono Trigger being one of them - have an unmatchable nostalgia. GameFAQs doesn't have anywhere near as many Gen-Xers as it does Millennials. Most of us were either unborn or in diapers in 1987, so the same nostalgia is not present considering any games from that year had to be played retroactively. We did not experience the same mind-blowingly awesome feelings that our forefathers did in the original Zelda or Metroidvania. We got those from SNES, N64, and PSX games, thus those have the fondest place in our hearts. Expect 1997 or 1998 to win this. i do, but i am voting based on that years influence on the industry as a whole, not the specific titles that were released. metrois suckes but it apawned super metroid. ya know? final fantasy saved an entire brand feom wxrincrion. teigger was just cool foe its time. First rule about contests: it's a popularity contest. Voters will just pick whatever they like the most, logic be danmed.
