ZeldaTPLink 07/04/21 6:56:58 PM #22 | Steel Samurai might not be the best one but it's so overused it will stick in my head until the end of time. My finger just went straight at its poll option. But I guess Orla's or the Gramarye's songs are at least as good? Not sure. |

Topic | Invest in stocks, or try to get a condo? |
ZeldaTPLink 03/30/21 9:15:02 PM #61 | Independence has its ups and downs, even aside from financial terms. For me the biggest issue was loneliness. During college years I lived alone just fine, but when I went to live alone to work for a few years, my social life basically ceased to exist. Modern society makes it difficulty for people to build social connections, so living with parents helps counter that a bit |

ZeldaTPLink 03/30/21 6:40:58 PM #55 | Zachnorn posted... We used to be financially codependent. If I weren't paying rent, she wouldn't have been able to make the rent payment. But this changed recently because she got Social Security income coming in, which is way more than the $450 I pay. Fair enough, I won't judge you for your financial situation. It's just that the way the whole thing is framed feels colder than what I'm used to. "Sharing the rent" would be the same thing in practice, while "charging rent" sounds like you are a customer to a business. Americans put things in capitalist terms by default, while latin countries like mine don't. Capitalist concepts don't come naturally to us. I was raised to keep money away from family relations as much as possible. I didn't get allowance as a kid, I just got raised to not expect to get everything I wanted and make reasonable requests. My parents get offended whenever I ask if they are unconfortable with helping me, and after a few years I just stopped asking. I don't intend to be a leech though, I have my own job now and I'm just living with them because we like to be with each other. Right now they don't need help from me, but if they ever do, I will help, but I won't put it in any terms that could sound capitalist or make the family feel like a business. |

ZeldaTPLink 03/29/21 1:13:58 PM #19 | Man, I'll never get used to hearing about Americans charging rent from their children. It's just too alien for me. Where I live people stay with their families because they like their families, not because it makes them money. I'm 29 and living with my parents, I don't intend to leave unless I get married or have to go work in a different city (which has happened before, but then I returned). There's nothing bad about it, every day together me and my family can treasure is priceless. |

ZeldaTPLink 03/27/21 1:18:02 PM #71 | TLJ tried to do something different and had mixed success. But it shouldn't have tried to do something different in the first place, because a series of films needs a single plot and this one clearly didn't have one, but as an attempt to butcher its own series, I've seen worse than TLJ. But then IX tried to come back to the tone of VII, and that was even worse, because it created yet another discontinuity, when sticking to VIII's plot might have been better. Also IX is pretty bad by itself. It's souless, takes zero risks and uses every possible holywood cliche it can. And VII was already kind of like that, but it had a nostalgia factor and some novelty to make it fun. IX needed to wrap up the plot well and it just didn't. So I'd say TLJ isn't the worst movie of new trilogy, it's maybe even as good as VII. But it's the movie that ruined it. And IX is the movie that made a very shitty attempt at fixing it. This trilogy was always doomed to fail because the producers were not interested in it having a single plot under the control of one person. |

ZeldaTPLink 03/23/21 8:58:15 AM #96 | Axl_Rose_85 posted... Also while this may not be entirely topic related, I dread touching any Disgaea game even though I had quite a blast with the first game. I spent about 150 hours in that game and heard from people that the gameplay is basically the same in the entire series. Maybe it is because the story and characters wasn't exactly my cup of tea but the gameplay was very good. Eh I played it recently for the first time and enjoyed, it's not something that aged super well, but the characters were fun. I did not play that long though. I had no interest in gameplay besides beating the main story, and I had a blast beating it, so it's cool. |

ZeldaTPLink 03/22/21 7:46:45 PM #266 | BoP is bad but it is mostly entertaining. I didn't leave it feeling insulted, just disappointed at some things. Aquaman is good but not amazing. |
Topic | The Snyder Cut is getting positive reviews |
ZeldaTPLink 03/22/21 7:43:29 PM #262 | Yeah Aquaman was fun and I could rewatch it. It's just not particularly groundbreaking or anything. It's a Thor film that is much better than the original Thor film but somewhat worse than Ragnarok. |
Topic | The Snyder Cut is getting positive reviews |
ZeldaTPLink 03/22/21 7:36:23 PM #259 | Eh Aquaman and WW feel like generic MCU films to me. Which is a very high bar for DCEU so they end up near the top of my rankings. The only film of DCEU that tried to be special and succeeded is Shazam, imo. |
Topic | The Snyder Cut is getting positive reviews |
ZeldaTPLink 03/22/21 7:34:26 PM #258 | That's why I'm not hyped on Snyder Cut because for me Snyder's vision on DCEU just translates to boring storytelling with some cool visuals. (I don't hate Snyder on the whole though, I enjoyed Watchmen and 300) For all that SS and JL are bad, at least they manage to keep my attention with quips and whatnot. BvS can't even do that. |
Topic | The Snyder Cut is getting positive reviews |
ZeldaTPLink 03/22/21 7:31:29 PM #256 | Funny, falling asleep is the reaction that best describes BvS for me. I don't hate what it tried to do, but the execution was incredibly bad in the sense it drags and drags and tells instead of showing. And whenever the film feels like it's hitting a strong note it stalls for another 40 minutes. Theres a good scene in the middle where congress explodes and you think the story will pick up and it just doesn't. The whole thing fails at the most basic principle of film making which is "this should be entertaining". |

ZeldaTPLink 03/22/21 7:04:19 PM #250 | KamikazePotato posted... Is it too surface level to mention that I still absolutely hate how kill-happy Batman was in BvS I kind of forgot about that since it was in the same scene where Amy Adams gave us her amazing "I'm not a woman, I'm a journalist!" line. |

ZeldaTPLink 03/22/21 7:02:17 PM #249 | Haven't watched this yet and doubt I will. 4 hours is a tall order. But to chime in the DCEU ranking debates, this is my ranking from what I've seen: Shazam > Aquaman > WW >>>>>> BoP > MoS >>>>>>>>> JL (original) > SS > BvS BvS is that bad. |
