Yes. It's not decided by me, but it's Excel and statistics that decides it.

If you're familiar with statistics, I am using the quartiles and the interquartile range (IQR) to determine outliers. In other words, anything below Q1 - 1.5 * IQR and above Q3 + 1.5 * IQR is considered an outlier. For you, Q3 was $125,000, IQR was $124,955, so anything above $312,432.50 wasn't counted in the average without outliers. That can change with other votes, of course.

If you don't understand statistics, then it basically tries to count as many votes as possible, but ones that are too extreme are not counted in the average without outliers. The main reason why I did this is because I don't want to place limits on amounts you can vote for, but at the same time, amounts like $27 trillion completely break the average. All votes count for the simple average, min, max, and median.

Yeah, I remember when we'd have at least 2 contests per year. We don't anymore. Additionally, traffic has gone down a lot. It just doesn't seem as active as it used to be on the boards. I'm guessing the popular topics thing on the home page is trying to get more posters.

I'm not disagreeing with you. When I came up with the stipulations, that sort of thing honestly did not cross my mind. It was more about trying to prevent the loophole of asking someone to go on Board 8 and communicate by proxy. I've personally never invited anyone I know in real life to anything Board 8 related (except my Minecraft server), so that didn't really cross my mind. I admit that I didn't think this through completely and I made the rules too strong and strict. That's why I will run this again, but not immediately. Maybe in a month or so. A few weeks at the soonest.

If I however had a (magical) list of people I wouldn't be able to talk to again in real life, things would be different. If I saw no one I knew on there then I would probably agree on any price someone propositioned me that would be somewhat substantial: anything over $500 or so. But I'd probably try to see how much I could get out of it. Hard to put a price on it myself, so I'll go with the $500 as long as the previous clause counts. If not: no.

Um...you realize this rule completely changes the meaning of the question for some people? Some of us have really close friends who post on board 8, that's way different from the users who don't actually know anyone here IRL.

It can change the meaning a bit, but the idea is that you're cut off from Board 8 completely. That includes anyone associated with it. It also prevents the loophole of communicating with Board 8ers through a proxy.

Also, do you have ANY idea the amount of people who have EVER visited board 8? I'd meet someone IRL and never be able to talk to them, just because they once went to gamefaqs during a contest and checked the board for 2 minutes

You wouldn't have been able to meet them in the first place after accepting the deal.

With the $x to do y topics, I thought this might be fun. Just state how much you would want to be paid to do whatever is in the title.

RULES

Not that I know of, I just get the link and DL it from them. So it might cost something if you don't have a data plan. I've also never used it for getting other people's ringtones so I can't help you there.

I just found a way. They have an app for Android, iPhone, and BlackBerry. I just hit download and it doesn't ask me for anything. It probably can get my phone number if it really wants, but at least I don't need to register.

By the way, I don't store much music on my computer because I stream it all instead. I appreciate the answers about making my own ringtones though, because I do have some music on my PC and so it's good to know how to make my own ringtones.

Thanks! How is it for downloading ringtones that other people made? I saw that it wants to send me a MMS message with a ringtone, but I'd rather download it without giving them my phone number. Is there a way to do that?

I've always used the ones included on my phone and never bothered looking for any before, but I feel like finding some other ones since I want to set up specific ringtones for specific people and I want some decent variety. I remember searching on Google last year, but I didn't trust the websites I found.

My phone's ringer is only on when I'm at home or in my car, before someone says that ringtones are annoying in public or anything >_>

Why do people prefer public transportation? I see some of the potential benefits, including cost and lack of traffic for trains. But maybe it's because it's LA, but I've had nothing but frustration with the buses and trains here. It took me as long as 2 hours to get to my community college by bus (15 minutes by car) each way, and 3-4 hours each way to my university (25-30 minutes by car). They put in a new rail line on the street that goes right by my school, so that's good. The cost of monthly passes comes out to about 50 cents more than just buying a gallon of gas (I've checked, and that's about how much I use on a round trip) per day. To me, the costs are worth the 2.5-3.5 hours per day that I save.

I like driving a lot. I always do the long distance drives when me and my gf go somewhere, the only exception is when its super hot because I don't have AC. I wanna drive cross-country one day.

One of the things I want to do is to drive from Los Angeles to the East Coast (likely New York City or Florida). Doing a trip up north to Seattle or even Alaska could also be a great trip. Sadly, I don't have the time or money for that now, but I'd really like to one day.

IMO, road trips are a lot more fun than flying, at least if I'm not in that much of a hurry. If it's around 700 miles or less, it seems to be cheaper anyway especially if you're with other people.

I enjoy driving most of the time. There's some stuff I hate about driving (traffic, idiot drivers/pedestrians, other stuff that annoys everyone), but I still think that driving is something enjoyable, which is good considering it's something I have to do. I thought that might change after commuting to LA every day for school, but I still mostly enjoy it.

How about you?

I'm actually not getting a bad deal. I think it is $8 or $10 more than what my household was paying for just cable Internet, which already cost $51.99 or so. If it were more expensive, I probably wouldn't have done it. That said, this is a promotional price, but still good for a year.

I do not have a Netflix or Hulu subscription, and I prefer not to pirate. When I checked before, lots of cable shows weren't available online for free like those on over the air channels, but maybe things changed since then.

Time Warner Cable gave me a promotional deal for cable TV, so my mom and I got it. The only things I know of are Conan and some stuff on Comedy Central (I heard good things about the Colbert Report and I remember liking The Daily Show).

Tekkit is more demanding than normal MInecraft, but this shouldn't be happening unless you have a massive operation going on. Can you make sure that your temple is set to allow people to walk through it (if you don't mind people doing so) so that someone else can see if there is any lag?

Clearing the cache shouldn't make lag get worse. At this point, I want to see if the problem is on my end or your end. If a few other people don't have any problems at your temple, then the problem is likely on your end, unfortunately.

As I tested, I had no problems, but since I'm running the server, I'd like someone else to check. I know it's /res'd, so people may or may not be able to get on it. Still, if someone besides me can try going to the temple and seeing if there is lag, that would be great.

Just out of curiosity Genesis, what are your computer's specs? Is there anyone on the East Coast having problems?

I would like to apologize to GenesisTwilight, who I thought had left for the night, and went into the server confused about what was going on in a world where quantum armor and mining lasers are replaced with diamond armor and diamond picks (that weren't even on the vanilla server yet!).

Just so you know, I was resetting my router at that time.

Anyway, right now the server is a bit...vanillafied. Don't be alarmed. I figure nobody is on right now, and a friend and I are having problems with my secondary server. I'll restore the Tekkit server later.

I'm too lazy to read this whole topic, but I will just say that I agree with you.

I will also say that I liked you more than some of the more popular users here. Yeah, I disagreed with you on a lot of stuff, and some of your posts just left me confused. Still, you're one of the few Board 8ers that would speak your mind without concern of what others would say. You certainly have my respect.

We've never really talked, but still, I wish you good luck on whatever it is you do and wherever else you go.

If you want to stop or start the factory, only activate or deactivate the redstone engine that pumps cobblestone out of the chest. Might as well leave the others at full heat.

I thought redstone engines would overheat if they are just running with nothing pumping. This isn't the case?

We need to do that, desperately. I had to turn off the generator because it was dropping too many items. All I did was move the redstone torches. Dropping too many items can cause massive lag problems, sadly. I'll keep it on when it has enough power or an induction furnace.
